The voices Simon hears in Iron Lung
So because I have no life and also because I need it for a fanfic I'm writing, I went through the part of Iron Lung where Simon's tripping balls and hearing voices on the way to the SM-8 and wrote it out as well as I could, maybe it's useful for someone else too.
Ava: Eyes up, Convict. I've been assigned to carry out your penance. To be honest, any other captain would have had you killed on sight, so you should consider yourself lucky.
Man: I think it's gone??? (cant quite make out this one its probably wrong)
Ava: Well, you are lucky.
Father: I see that question in your eyes
Ava: 62 others didn't make it out of Filament station and no, that doesn't include your compatriots.
Man: Leave him! We're all dead anyway.
(there's sounds of what is probably the battle of Filament station throughout the background, like shouting and sirens)
Man (Simon?): I didn't want them to die
David: Excuse me? What the fuck did you just say?
Man (Eden soldier?): When did you grow a conscience, Simon?
Man (Eden soldier?): You got the highest body count out here, killer! Not one of us has more blood on their hands than you!
Father: ...flesh has purpose yet
Man: Please, I- (sound of neck snapping?)
Man (Eden soldier?): Simon the Butcher lost his nerve. You're gonna have to kill your own brothers to stop this.
(Then Simon says out loud: You're not my brother)
Man (Eden soldier?): Your words, not mine, butcher. I wasn't even there!
Woman/Boy?: Something bad is happening
Man (Eden soldier?): I'm just the guy that told you to cross the wires
Father: The consolidation can (something) in their secrets. (it seems to gradually become Simon's voice) We must bear these burdens, these hardships, this anger! The sorrow
Robotic voice: Evacuate. Evacuate.
Father/Simon continued: We must bear it.
Woman(Simon's mother?): We/They have a tree
Father/Simon continued: We are the keepers of Eden.
Woman(Simon's mother?): You'll feel just like home.
Father/Simon continued: We must help them.
Woman(Simon's mother?): Simon, don't be like that.
Woman(Simon's mother?): You'll love it there.
Ava: Council authority confiscates them. They're hoping to start a garden of their own some day.
Father/Simon continued: Our duty is not done.
Simon?: The last tree's dead.
Father/Simon continued: The last tree will live again!
Simon: It's Eden's grave.
Father/Simon continued: When the last son of Eden joins the grove, there will be a thousand trees!
Simon: You may think that there's no soil, but we know.
Father/Simon continued: We will die.
Simon: We know that when we die -
Father/Simon continued: And when we die,
Both: Our bodies become / will become the soil.
Ava: How about we just stay focused on the mission. Now, once you're down there, you're gonna be on your own.
Ava: You'll have to navigate the ocean floor carefully
Woman/Ship: It's right behind you
Ava: …map is current, but things might change, look different once you're down there
Woman/Ship: It's still there
Ava: Take as many pictures as possible, both for navigation and for us to...
Woman/Ship: On your left. They're watching you
A lot of it is kind of overlapping and hard to make out so I probably missed some things. I'm also not super sure on whose voice they are sometimes. Like the sermon part definitely starts as the father, but then seems like it turns into Simon's voice and back to the father several times.
some of this is clearly accurate flashbacks of things that actually happened, like for example the David part repeats exactly what he said at the beginning
a large part of it seems to be from one conversation he had with Ava pre-movie, about the mission. I assume he asked about his pendant that they took from him
some parts however are definitely not real, such as the guy going 'I wasn't even there, I'm just the guy who told you to cross the wires'. That guy can't be part of the monster/ocean, since he wasn't assimilated - he asphyxiated and his body was brought back up with the ship, that's the only explanation for why his stuff is in the ship. So I'm chalking this one up to just a full on hallucination
The Filament station parts seem to confirm that what Simon claims is true: he did try to stop the plan/opposed his brothers somehow and they left him behind
also confirms that Simon already had the 'Butcher' name before Filament happened so yeah.. in a world with only a few hundred people left, it's pretty insane that he killed so many
There's sound of a random guy being killed, either by Simon or the Father (because the Father says '(your) flesh still has purpose yet' right before it. Maybe Eden killed COI prisoners for the tree or something?
The parts with Simon's mother just confirm that he didn't grow up on Eden, I guess, but they moved there when he was a kid, and presumably grew up somewhere where they had trees
I'm a bit confused by the part where Simon tells (presumably) Ava about the last tree and how their bodies will become soil. He seems in the movie quite disillusioned by Eden and doesn't particularly seem to believe in their dogma so idk if he was just giving the COI info on what Eden believes or something.
The woman's voice at the end, which tells him about the monster being right behind him, is commonly referred to as the ship becoming alive and having its own voice so that's why I put it as woman/ship.
Small detail but Ava tells him to take as many pictures as possible, while the manual says to take as few as possible because the effects on the pilot cannot be completely shielded and accumulate. Confirming that she saw him as a throw-away resource.
