just in case anyone forgot how wildly colorful Georgian interiors could be, even among the working class to the wealthy:
and EVEN WHEN things were more muted/neutral, the neutrality was OFFSET by ACCENT COLORS and HIGH CONTRAST between the wood tones and everything ELSE
ALSO AMERICAN COLONIAL INTERIORS POPPED OFF, Y'ALL (IN TERMS OF COLOR/COZINESS)
PEOPLE USED WHITEWASH AND COLORFUL TRIM OR EVEN JUST COLORFUL FURNITURE IF THEY COULD AFFORD TO DO SO
AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON FRENCH AND BRITISH AND AMERICAN WALLPAPERS
"ELIZABETH" YOU CRY, "WHY ARE YOU BEING SO EXTRA THIS MORNING?! IT'S MONDAY"
Because, my friend, my war on GREIGE will NEVER end.
Historic interiors were filled with LIFE and LIGHT and COLOR. ALWAYS HAVE BEEN.
Part of the reason we don't see a lot of textile art is because, frankly, textiles tend to degrade over time - especially ones that had utility! And yes, pigments and weaving and dying all boosted the expense of things, when we were finally reliably block-printing fabrics and broad reams of paper, it was no longer just the wealthy who could afford pretty patterns!
In the Americas, a far wider variety of pigments also became available because of the abundance of... well, a shitton of flora and minerals, some of which weren't as common in Europe.
WHY THE HIGHLIGHTER COLORS? you ask.
CANDLES.
Those colors reflect candlelight and natural sunlight REALLY WELL.
Humans LOVE bright colors, it's NOT just a thing for kids. We live in a brilliant, vibrant, multifaceted world. We ALWAYS have.
(STOP MAKING YOUR HISTORIC SIMS 4 BUILDS BE BLAND. STOP IT.)
On the subject of Colonial America: don't forget, even if you couldn't afford wallpaper, wall stenciling might still be in reach!
(If ever you have the opportunity to visit the Stencil House at the Shelburne Museum in Vermont (pictured above at 3, 4, and 5), I highly recommend.)
And that's before you get into American painted murals:
Embrace the decorative arts, folks!
Companies in the 2000s: You wouldn't download a car! Digital copies are still stealing, even if the original copy remains with us.
Companies in the 2020s: That digital copy, which you have paid for, doesn't really belong to you. We're removing it from your library now.
Companies deleting media you've literally purchased is 1000x more realistically "stealing" than digital piracy, you cannot change my mind

If youâll pardon the pun, I have a trunk of vintage elephant imagery.
the elephant will wipe the united states off the face of the earth and replace it with oysters, clams, lobsters, and turtles besides

The Yellowstone Wolves is the first case we study in any Ecology class, since it's the best example on how interconnected the ecosystem is - there's no direct reason why the presence of wolves would change the course of the rivers, but through a series of little things, it does. It's a reminder that everything is important, everything has a role in nature, and how the extinction of a population can bring an entire ecosystem down.
they should invent a grief that doesnât define you in new and strange ways for the rest of your life

Et vive la France
My mum has to drive over the Millau viaduct every time she visits me, and the other day I was in the car with her and said we should stop to take a picture, and she said, Must we. And I said, Come on! itâs the tallest bridge in the world. And she just wouldnât believe me. Itâs too familiar to be special⌠She was like, surely the tallest bridge in the world would be somewhere else. Not between my house and yours.
To be exact (bc i love going on it and also am a nerd) it is, since 2025, the second tallest bridge in the world, and also the highest of his kind, the Cable Stayed with the support pillar and the cable pillar being separate.
See, bridge records make a distrinction between âheight off the groundâ and âstructural tallnessâ.
The Millau Viaduc was one of the highest off the ground at the time of construction (2001-2004) (top 2 when it was started, top 4 when it was finished) and is still the highest in Europe. But now in 2026, it is the 57th highest bridge in the world (53 are in China, 1 in Papua New Guinea, 1 in Mexico, 1 in India, 1 in the Usa).
There are also other cable-stayed bridges that are higher, in fact the second highest bridge in the world is a cable-stayed one, the Duge Bridge in China (which is still between oneâs house and their momâs, I presume)âŚ
âŚbut it doesnât have the separate pillars :
(and it means the Millau Viaduct also has one single set of cables in the middle instead of two on each side.)
BUT, as you might have noticed, the Duge Bridge doesnât have a pillar going down in the canyon, while de Millau Viaduc does. Which means it is higher off the ground, but not taller structurally.
And the Millau Viaduc is tall indeed. His tallest pillar is 343Â m (1,125Â ft).
It was built in 2004. The tallest bridge in the world, as of 2026, is the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge, and it was built in 2025.
For 21 years, the tallest bridge in the world was the Viaduc Millau.
It was started in 2001. No smartphones. Only cathodic screens. Internet was starting : it was long before any site we use today, before youtube, the same year as Wikipedia was lauched. Ten years after the fall of the URSS. Reagan died the year it was finished. So did the Bigdil. It was a Big Deal.
Still now, 21 years later, it is still in second place.
The Millau Viaduc, the second tallest bridge in the world, the highest bridge in Europe and the highest of his kind, is an architectural marvel and it is so pretty and cool and itâs the pride of the Aveyron region and everyone should appreciate it â¤ď¸

Something neuroscience-y that helps with prose: attention is selective. A character will not notice everything in a room. They will notice what matters to their goal, fear, desire, training, wound, or obsession. A jealous character notices hands. a hungry character notices food. A soldier notices exits. A lonely character notices pairs. Description becomes character when attention has a bias.
i wish we were able to talk about women's rights without someone mentioning how much they do or don't want to have sex with them. i don't care if you're a lesbian Stop finding worth in women purely from their perceived attractiveness
"I think women should not be expected to shave for societal respect / to avoid discrimination" "yeah𤤠i love bush" ok well that's not what we're talking about is it.
i hate how many posts about trans women deserving respect always devolve into "I love girldick" or "trans rights but I don't want to date a trans person" because that's entirely unrelated to the topic at hand. you should not respond to feminism with "YESSS I loveeee you because I see you as nothing but a sex object" you people sound like other men I get stuck talking with that end up saying "free the nipple so I can see boobies in public" and thinking they're feminists. why can't we just respect women regardless of your attraction to them or not. why does it need to be brought up in every conversation regarding their rights
