anne bonny black sails tragic character of all time. she loves two people and only them. she is miserable if she is without either one of them. if she has them both she compromises her own happiness. she doesn't know what would make her happy because only the two people she loves do that. she wants to leave the sea but jack can't so she stays. she wants to leave that fucking island but max can't so she stays. loyalty to her lovers over loyalty to what she wants. because she wants them.

driving me insane that the inscription in marcus aurelius is to "my truest love" like "my dearest love" would have been sad enough but TRUEST... the whole show is about the illusions and the falsehoods that prop up power and flint is so good at using them. but he was once someone's truest love. the least false. in this world that runs on lies and stories and theater there was once something true. and it was destroyed. i get why flint is like that now i'd go fucking crazy too

it must’ve been so embarrassing for everyone on game of thrones when they fumbled the ending so bad after black sails managed to achieve everything they were trying for two years earlier with a much smaller budget. like well lit fight scenes, intricate politics, morally gray characters with shifting alliances, sea battles, epic stories told on a focused character level, waxing poetic on the nature of stories and storytelling and the way they shape reality… like damn y’all really are just out there reheating jonathan steinberg and robert levine’s nachos

I find it very hard to sympathise when characters in black sails are like "Flint is CRAZY!!!! You can't trust him, he'll beat you to DEATH if you get in his way!!!" because like. he's right. he's literally always right. And if you just listened to him, he wouldn't have to beat you to death now, would he? godddd 🙄

zero stars for nolan because odysseus, on his journey home to ithaca, was NOT visited by a ghost that tells him that once he reaches his home, once he slays all his enemies and sets his house in order he must do one last thing before he can rest. the ghost does NOT tell him to pick up an oar, walk inland, keep walking, until somebody mistakes that oar for a shovel. for that would be the place that no man has ever been troubled by the sea. and that's where he'd find peace.
