“I live and work in Yenakievo. I was returning from Moscow after my vacation. When it happened, I was dozing a little, so I didn't actually hear the attack itself. The explosion woke me up—first a bright flash, then a blow to the head. At first, naturally, I was completely stunned. I had no understanding of what had happened. When I gradually came to my senses, my first thought was that half of my head was gone. Then I thought about my daughter. After that, I looked up and started taking in what was happening. The passengers were already evacuating as best they could—some faster, some slower. Because evacuation from a narrow bus is a very lengthy process, I got out through a window. Passengers from the front rows immediately started helping. They carried the injured away from the burning bus and provided whatever assistance they could. Local residents also came to help. The blast affected a large area, and people arrived and did whatever they could. Some even took children with them, wrapped them up, and looked after them.”

The EU has proposed a stoppage to granting Ukrainian men of fighting age refugee protection to settle in the bloc, while extending the right for others from the country to stay beyond 2027.

Brussels said the change follows a request from Kyiv, whose army has struggled with manpower shortages as Russia's war of invasion grinds into a fifth year.

"Our proposal provides that temporary protection should not be granted to newly arriving persons who are not allowed to leave Ukraine because of their military obligations," Magnus Brunner, the European Union's internal affairs chief told journalists.
