Just watched Clue (1985). Big fan of whatever Tim Curry was doing. Also big fan of everything Miss Scarlet did. I was not expecting to be as entertained as I was because I'm not usually a fan of such blatant comedy pieces...maybe it was partially the references to the 1950s political mood that kept me interested.
Just once, I want a detective-thief cat-and-mouse movie where they're actually gay
Daniel and Louis's conversation be still my beating heart... the way Daniel sounded so desperately falsely casual asking him to talk. His face. The shitty apology followed by an immediate second (albeit much more minor) betrayal. Daniel who is experiencing vampire loneliness. Who wants desperately to be friends with Louis but wants his success more because he's Daniel, of course he does. They aren't friends but then what else are they? I just love them so much I need them to reconcile and/or fuck and/or have a crazy dirty physical altercation
idk how to explain it but im never truly comfortable with the way people insinuate that all older folks are inherently bigoted. it always feels like it kind of hand-waves away personal responsibility like ohhhh grandpa cant help homophobic, hes old. well ive met plenty of older folks who are normal about gay people. i think grandpa could be better. i think we should hold grandpa to higher standards.

Anyone have thoughts on if Phil ever went to the factory? I think so, because he was in circles with many of those people (Eric Anderson most directly).

i am massively overdue for a very very good week where not a single bad thing happens and everything is easy
reblog to give prev a very good week where not a single bad thing happens and everything is easy
Phil Ochs Tribute Night on Sunday! Hopefully I can do the livestream liveblog for a second year
Watching a video essay about Atlas Shrugged (because I have no interest in reading a thousand pages of neoliberal propaganda, and because in addition to a bunch of tech fascists loving this book, my mother-in-law says it's her favorite book and I would like to understand a little bit) and wow. So glad I didn't read this as a kid because I fear I would have liked it. Business people being horrible people in a semi-noir style? I would have eaten that up when I was 12-14.
my personal favorite
alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
please rb for larger sample size!
Question 1/3
What is your age, and do you feel AI is a net positive or net negative in our lives today?
under 18, AI is a net positive
under 18, AI is a net negative
18-29, AI is a net positive
18-29, AI is a net negative
30-45, AI is a net positive
30-45, AI is a net negative
46-60, AI is a net positive
46-60, AI is a net negative
over 60, AI is a net postive
over 60, AI is a net negative
Question 2/3
How often do you visit or interact with museums/archives (whether in person or online)?
Frequently (multiple times per month)
Often (multiple times per year)
Occasionally (a couple times per year)
Rarely (once every couple of years)
Never :(
Question 3/3
If you saw a museum was using AI in exhibits, marketing, research, etc., would you be more or less inclined to visit that museum?
under 18, more inclined
under 18, less inclined
18-29, more inclined
18-29, less inclined
30-45, more inclined
30-45, less inclined
46-60, more inclined
46-60, less inclined
over 60, more inclined
over 60, less inclined
Thank you for helping with this data collection. Please rb for as big a sample as possible!

now that my jury duty is over and i can legally talk about my jury duty, a short list of things that i have learned about jury duty:
when the judge wants to sidebar with the lawyers they turn on a static noise machine for the jury. this is very like the experience of being trapped inside a television
sometimes they load the entire court -- judge, lawyers, court reporters, jury, etc. -- onto a bus and take you all on a little field trip to see a crime scene. this is very like the experience of being in elementary school
when you are on a jury field trip you May Not share a seat, you May Not speak, and you May Not look at anything you have not been officially told you can look at. this is very like the experience of being trapped inside a point-and-click adventure except that instead of being limited in your investigation by the constraints of the game mechanics, you are instead limited in your investigation by the court officers herding you around like ducks with their long wooden Official Court Staffs
no matter how much an FBI agent may encourage the court to call him kevin, the court will not call him kevin
Just saw a tech rationalist call Dungeon Crawler Carl "too anti-capitalist" and boy if I was on the fence about reading the series I Definitely am not now
