umm not sure if i like this but omegaverse kinda-neglected reader! x tf141 (ghost focus), angst, good ending, gn!reader, SFW
Youāre a beta. That should come as a relief, many tell you every day they wish they were your designation instead. No heats, no ruts, not even stinking up a room when you got a bit too overwhelmed by an emotion.
Just in the middle: a nice calming scent, a decent paying jobā never too high, a beta CEO wouldn't be able to control anythingā and the lack of any crazy season that would get you all flustered. Your sense of smell was incredibly different to theirs, but you werent given much chances to complain considering all they went through in heats.
So naturally you were taught your life revolved around alphas and omegas, all the way from secondary school when you were sat next to the reactive Alphaās to ātry and make them behave betterā. In biology class your designation was skimmed over very quickly in favour of understanding how to react to their emotional changes and the like, and anything else you had to figure out for yourself.Ā
Itās not like getting out of school into the workforce was much better. Omegaās rights had changed greatly in the past century, and no one would bat an eye at them being in most jobsā so applying was even more impossible. Even when you did get into the workplace, it was like alphaās would immediately stop listening when there was an omega in the room, or vice versa. Truthfully you were jealous of their natural pull to each other, like the relationships youād read in books or see in swoon worthy movies.
āThereās all sorts of jobsā chefs, mechanics, cyber analysts, engineers, dont just have to be a soldier.ā The army recruiter outside your local supermarket rambles, clearly trying to get at least one recruit today at the minimum. Otherwise heād definitely get in big trouble. āAnd youāre a beta, so you can do both work with Omega and Alpha jobs! Youāll be fine!ā
āWhat?ā You look at him, that mention perking you up and he looks at you with glee. You were only listening in hopes heād get you off his back, but that was certainly news to you.
āI bet youāre sick of fighting with even more people for jobs now, huh? In the military omegaās and alphas are kept very seperate, even so, theyāre required to be on suppressants so everythingās very easy.āĀ
āāāāā
So, thatās how you ended up here, bullied and forced into the shape of a soldier, something you still feel fake about even after countless deployments. Itās quickly forgotten though when you have the thrill of finally finding your place in society.
Your first team was mostly alphas, a beta here and there, but it felt great to have them treat you equally, slapping a hand on your back and grinning at a job well done. The omega team wouldnt even bat an eye when you were assigned to them, just as welcoming. Truly the best of both worlds, you could be anything you wanted in this systemā it was like it was built for you to thrive.
Then the taskforce got established, and by a stroke of luck, you got transferred on. āYou always run this early?ā A hand lands on your shoulder, and you jump just to meet Sergeant Mactavishā grin. After completing your demolitions course with flying colours, you soon got assigned under him. His hair is wet, mohawk flat for once, and you can only assume he just washed off. Still, his scent washes over you, easing your momentary shock and you nod, smiling. āYeah, isn't the water too cold this early?ā
āItās alright. Cāmon, letās go meet the others for breakfast.āĀ
You follow him, the faintest happy scent trailing off of you as you do so, and spiking just the miniscule amount when you sit down at the table.
āPlease please give me your bread roll, i love the jam they use for it.ā Gaz pleads, clasping his hands together and you can't help but roll your eyes, letting him trade it for his fried egg. āI love you so much-ā He mumbles, already taking a bite out of it that Price rolls his eyes as he takes a seat.Ā
āAlmost thirty years old...ā He mutters and you giggle, eyes moving to where Ghost comes with his tray, sitting next to Price.
āI saw you on the track, you looked tired.ā He says, giving you a pointed look, and making your cheeks flush. Oh, right. The night prior youād been suddenly awaken to help deal with a feral omega, forced to give up hours of sleep to soothe them to submission..Ā
āJust didnāt get the best sleep. Iāll feel alright after a coffee.ā You give him a small shrug, eating more of your food. His eyes linger on you for a moment longer before nodding and carrying on.
Ā The sergeants were more than happy to include you in all their plans, barely batting an eye when your scent wasn't as strong as theirs or in combat training you couldn't hold as much of an intimidating presence. Nor did the Captain and the Lieutenant care either, always praising the fact you could slip by unnoticed, with no chance of wavering from the other two designations and such.Ā
It felt almost like a pack.. and it was perfect. So perfect.
āJohnny, just spill it!ā Gaz groans as the Scot dances around the subject for the tenth time that morning, making you all roll your eyes at the breakfast table.Ā
āI got an omega!ā The whole table falls silent, and then Gaz lets out a low whistle patting him on the back whilst the Captain nods approvingly.Ā
āAnd you wont show us a photo?ā Ghost chimes in, making Soap stumble to get his phone out, excited as he passes the phone around. A sweet, soft omega. Round cheeks, a bright smile, hanging off his arm like it was the key to her heart. A perfect match to him.
āShe looks perfect with you, good on you, son.ā The Captain says, giving him a gruff smile and Gaz snickers at his father-like praise. Then they turn to you, as you sit in shock, fork gently clattering on the plate.
Your jaw hurts from how you physically have to force a wide enough smile, standing up and coming around to congratulate him properly. Itās even worse when Kyle insists he should show more pictures and so you stand there between them, making fake oooās and aaahās in hopes it would hide the slightest change in your scent.
It changes everything.
āSoap, me and Gaz are going to the pub laterāā
āAh⦠cant, omega wants me to watch a movie with her. What about friday?ā
āOhā do you mind if we do some sparring today?ā
āUh.. okay, sure. Just gotta finish up this text to my omega. Ye know sheās getting stronger by the day! Iāve been helping her keep fit, yknow, to stay safe and all.ā
āDo you want to go grab lunch?ā
āOhā sure. Feels like i havent seen you in forever.ā
You smile wide when he finally agrees to hang out with you againā after all, itās not like he was acting like this with Kyle. So you both enter the mess, going to grab your plate.Ā
āAhh.. the āmega loves chicken like this, makes hers a bit more seasoned though. Bloody good.ā You smile weakly, trying to start your own conversation about work, and the mission youāll be going with him on.Ā
āOh ye havent heard yet.ā He falls quiet and you tilt your head in confusion, about to place the dish on your tray.
āHavent heard what? Was there a new brief?ā
āYou should talk to the Captain.ā
Confused, you do stop by his office later that evening, gently tapping on the door with your knuckles and announcing yourself. With a weaker scent, he couldnāt tell you apart from the alphaās across base with their scent blockers on, unlike the rest of the taskforce.
āCome in.ā
āSoap said i havent heard something about the mission im going with him on soon? Did something change?ā
āAh, right. You dont need to go anymore.ā
You blink in surprise, suddenly really confused by all of this and you step forward a bit more, scent souring. Not that heād pick up on it.
āHeās a claimed alpha now, thereās no need for a beta to mediate.ā
You stand there, the contents of your stomach in your throat as you process his words. Mediate. You werent there because of skills.. the CO who encouraged you to take a demolition course didn't even think you were good at it either. They just needed a beta to mediate in a field lacking them.
āOh. Right.ā
A month passes by of you watching Soap slip away from you, barely talking to you if not about his omega, never joining you on a morning run until youāre sure heās forgotten about you altogether. At first you had chalked it up to him just being busier with mated life. After all, youāve witnessed the pull of an omega first hand many times, how it makes them change. Though, his relationship with the alphas didn't change in the slightest.
With his protective instincts he was drawn to the alphas more now, always hanging around Gaz and and Ghost when they weren't busy, beelining straight past you unintentionally. You cant really blame him either, no one remembers the betaās faint scent.
It was Gaz next. One evening you were leaning against him on the couch, unable to hide your despair and luckily heād been nice enough to let you sit there without explanation. It was nice, you thought that if you had no Soap, at least you had your other best friend. He always made you smile, and he was the reason you even got a slice of attention from Soap these days.
And then it came.Ā
It started small, just hanging around Soap more often than not. Really you hadnt thought much of it, but it did feel rough when you sat also on the rec room couch just to watch them fully invested in something you could never join in on. You figured it was about Soapās omega again, not something you particularly wanted to hear about.
Then it turned into turning down bar nights altogether. They would both cancel, Gaz excusing it with āplansā whilst Soap was always honest. Sure you had the whole team, but being in the vicinity of four alphas in an alpha only bar was enough of a scent overload to give any beta a headache.Ā
Then you saw his lockscreen on accident, just wanted to check the time really. It was unmistakably obvious though, the smiles, calmer than Johnnyās one, but just as gorgeous and adorable. A real treat for the eyes.
āCongratulations.ā You mumbled when he came back to the couch with his can, raising a brow at you.Ā
āWhat..?ā He knew, of course he did. You knew his lying look.
āGot yourself an omega, when are you gonna tell the others?āĀ
He seems embarrassed, quickly grabbing the phone off of you, cheeks burning. āHow did you see that?!āĀ
The next morning he announces it to the team and you join in with congratulating again, only too aware of the cycle that was soon to repeat. Only, it wasn't too bad with Gaz. You were grateful, so grateful when he still would spend a lunch or two with you, or even just talk to you.
āHey, we going on our usual grocery run this week?ā You two were put together on the rota for stocking the rec room and so you both head out, riding shotgun in Gazās car.Ā
You both had a copy of the list, walking around the store together, until you eventually got them all. āOh! Just a second, need to grab some scent stuff.ā In the small beta section they allowed, there were really good products to clear out scents from others thatād stick to betas and linger around. After all, you had a keener sense of smell, so being around the taskforce meant it racked up pretty fast on your clothes and on your room.Ā
Kyle was the first you confided in after you suddenly fainted once, at a bar, the scents too much for you to handle. Though you managed to quell it pretty quickly with these. Some you could just spray in your nose and goā perfect for getting rid of the oncoming dizziness.
āYou know you dont have to get the fanciest things, just get the base ones. Itās at the back of the store and theyāre expensive.ā
You pause, he never questioned this before, not even the first time you had nervously told himā afraid to be undermined.Ā
āThereās no base ones..ā You say with a raised brow, but you cant bring yourself to be too rude to him. Even if his tone was almost sharp, scolding, as if you were being selfish. Right now it feels like youāre reduced to your designations, and thatās it. Not humans, not friends, not even teammates. Alpha and beta. āThereās only one brand that ever does it.ā
āReally? And what about the cheap scent clearers? The ones you used to use before.ā He gives you a firm look, challenging, and you swallow, unsure where this hostility came from.
ā..They got pulled off the shelf, Kyle. Thousands of betaās got chemical burnsā i couldnt smell properly for a week.āĀ
He pauses for a split second, like heāll acknowledging the truth in your words and his wrongs, then just huffs, turning to scan where the empty checkout is. āFine. Get what you want then, but I'm going to pay. Iāll meet you at the car.ā
When you return with the small plastic bag, he puts his hand out for the receipt so it can be handed to you at a price for expenses on the card. āI paid for it myself.ā You mutter back, your scent tinging sour and in the close proximity it might be noticeable this time. He pauses, and then puts his hands on the wheel, choosing not to comment further.
āāāāāāāāāāā
The sergeants are on a mission, one you were supposed to be on, but now youāve been shoved into another with unclaimed alphaās who need a bit of extra settling. Or rather someone lesser than them they can secretly believe theyāre higher than. It doesn't feel much different to secondary school now, and you find yourself with less will to argue about it.Ā
Thankfully, Lieutenant Ghost is here with you. Heās always been alrightā not exactly friendly but not rude either. You were quite intimidated by his rank at first, convinced heād be strict and unforgiving but heās content if you get the work done.Ā
āHandled that bomb in record time.ā He comments beside you on the way back to base. There was another demolitions expert on the team but when news came up that there was another bomb they had not suspected, he immediately put his trust in you to disarm it.Ā
āThanks for the chance, Lt.ā You smile up at him and he nods, acknowledging your hard work. After all, you really did always put in more than your best. Even so, he cant help but notice you sink as soon as he shifts his attention to someone elsewhere, the conversation falling quiet. Heād be blind to notice the gap between you and the sergeants, even if you were a beta and them having omegaās shouldnt even bother you. Him and Price had to regularly reminds them to not walk around in clothes stinking of their partner.
āThe sergeants are back from their mission, could hit the pub tonight. Whole team can comeā
You feel too bad to decline now, so you just nod. āOkay. Yeah.ā
āāāāā
The Alpha only pub is bustling and you offer to grab the third round just so you can escape the thick scents building around you. It doesnt help that youāre basically rationing your scent-refresher as of right now.
āOmegaās doing good.ā Soap responds to Priceās questions.. At least youāll miss this mandatory conversation while you go. The bartender already knows you, greeting you with a welcoming smile as you start your order. Itās all going on Priceās card, so you take the opportunity to get a sundae instead of alcohol. He did owe you one after an explosive you caught right by his position. Besides, it was less than a tenner, and youād savour it for life.
āHeatās coming up though. Itās only three days long usually, but should go smoothly. The store almost ran out of supplies too.ā Soap sighs loudly, shaking his head and Kyle nods along, also probably having similar issues.Ā
Youāre not exactly listening, carefully holding the plate of drinks so you don't accidentally spill it with the countless bodies in this crowd.
āIf they got rid of the beta section, theyād have more to spend stocking on the omega stuff.ā A soldier hanging around elbows Soap, but he doesnt disagree. If anything the buzz of alcohol just makes him want to finally speak his truth now.
āRight? I mean really? Beta period products? Beta scent enhancers? Like those would actually even work to attract an alpha let alone an omega. Those scent refreshers cannot be real either, i mean, youād think theyād want to smell us, ya know? Not like they get anything elseā ā
The table goes silent, Gaz obviously kicking Soap in the leg until he looks up and meets eyes with you. The other soldier doesnt bat an eye, raising a brow at you. āOh, your drinks are here. Can you order me two aswell?ā
āIām not a waiterā You snap back, and the Captain stands quickly, taking the tray from your hands and placing it down on the table.
āThink your team wants you back over there.ā He motions for the soldier to go with his eyes, and he quickly leaves. āThanks for grabbing them, iāll get yours. Come, sit.ā He turns to you but you freeze, shaking your head, and turning back into the crowd. āIāll get it myself.ā
āYou idiot!ā Gaz puts his head in his hands at the very obvious tension from Soapās words.Ā
āI didn't know they was there!ā He retorts, though also slumps into his seat a little more. āItās true. What do you want me to say?ā
āEnough.ā Price sighs, pinching his brow, he shouldāve stopped the sergeants earlier but he hadnt known heād be stupid enough to say that. Even if it was something that they were all thinking.
They take their drinks from the tray you brought, Gaz and Soap downing theirs immediately as if thatāll get rid of the dread hanging on their head. Price begins to sip his light chatter starting up again until Ghost suddenly speaks up.
āThey still haven't come back.ā
Itās been five whole minutes, and thereās no sight of you to be seen anywhere.Ā
ā
Youāre sitting at the back entrance of the pub, empty at this time with the game roaring inside the pub. The alleyway it leads into is dirty, a few football decorations here and there, but mostly just black bin bags spilling out the large bins. There were two guys who had been staring you down for a while, like you were something that needed saving. The second one of them approached and caught your lack of omega scent, they immediately groaned and just turned away.Ā
You just stick your spoon back in your sundae, not even lifting your head the entire time, just letting the cold sweetness try and keep you together.
Thereās a small noise as someone sits down beside you, a rustle of clothing, and then the soft click of a lighter. You turn your head, slightly surprised to find Ghost there instead of a random drunk bloke hoping to score a sweet thing.Ā He meets your eyes but neither of you say anything as you go back to eating your sundae.Ā
āShouldāve got the other one.ā
āWhat?āĀ
āThe bigger one.ā He shrugs, the cigarette hanging loosely between his fingers. āPrice told us to order whatever.ā
āThis is the only one that can come in a takeaway cup.ā You mumble and he doesn't say anything further, not even when you lick the spoon clean.
āWhy are you here?ā You ask, unable to keep silent anymore. Itās not like he actually came to see how you were, and youāre suddenly glad he didn't come ten minutes earlier when you were on the verge of bawling your eyes out.Ā
āSāposed to be a team night.ā
āMaybe for the Alphas.ā You grumble and he cant help but hum alongside you, not arguing with you on that fact.
āCant stand the smell, can ya? Got the takeaway cup cause you knew youād need to go regardless.ā Of course he figured it out immediately, though youād think itās impossible to read you given how some people treat you.
āYou mad iām not fawning over your scent?ā You scoff and wipe your mouth with the back of your hand, making sure no chocolate sauce lingersā especially with how heās watching you right now.
āJohnny is a stupid drunk, ālright?.ā He mutters, a bit of bitterness in his tone that always lingers, but itās not directly at you. āPriceāll convince you itās just his instincts and all, looking after the omega.ā
You look over at him and give him a deadpan look, the most honest youāve ever been with the man. Usually youāre pretty agreeable, in fact the only time youāve had a conflicts was when they got injured. Turns out youāre the only voice of reason whenever that happened, as the smell of the blood sent the rest of them into a spiral of worry.
And well, after that, he can't really blame you for being like this.
āIām going.ā You mutter, standing up and throwing the plastic cup in the bin before wiping your hands on your jeans.Ā
To your surprise, he doesnt hesitate to follow you as you round to the front, heading to the little bus stop. Itās not the first time youāve left early, but it is the first time someoneās made sure youāre alright by the end of the night.Ā
āāāāāāāā
Soap only makes a quick apology which youāre forced to just accept,, because what else can you really do? Mess up a whole team because of one thing he said which wasnt that far from the truth?
As predicted, Price did try and tell you it was due to protective instincts, wanting the best for his omega. Right, the same instincts that made him leave you like you were dirt on his shoe.Ā
Besides, life was getting busier for you as you now got passed between two teams. Either working with Ghost and Price or a different group of alphas. Passed around like a damn stress toy in your opinion.Ā
āSo weāre going to the one in the highstreet?ā Gaz and Soap are chatting on the couch, not that youāre listening, just getting your things out the cupboard to make yourself a hot drink.Ā
āMy āmega loves it, craves the food there all the time. Sheās gonna love meeting yours.ā
Whatever, it wasnt the first time theyāve discussed plans in front of others. Wouldn't be the last.
āIāll text the Captain and Ghost.ā Soap adds, humming as he starts tapping away at his phone, opening their group chat you assume. One that youāre clearly not on, given that they dont invite you.
āYou think heāll even come?āĀ
āHeās not that antisocial.ā
āYeah but heās only one without an omega dumbass.ā
The container you're holding clatters against the table and they both back to stare at you with the exact same wide eyed look youāre giving them. If heās the only one then Price..
You walk out like nothing happened, even if you can feel the tears start to burn your eyes. It was all going so well, you were all happy togetherā werent you? So why?
The cycle repeats for the third time. Youāre taken off another team, not deemed useful enough anymore. You congratulate Price when you next see him, and he doesn't say more than a thank you. Somehow it hurts more that he didn't purposefully tell youā he just forgot, like everyone else did.
You stopped coming by the rec room the last time the sergeants had a movie night without you. The texts between them and you ran dry, and after skipping one breakfast, you just never came back again. Thatās just how it was now, and they didn't even reach out once. In fact, all of the last messages were from you. An unanswered question, a conversation cut short, or a text that just never even got opened.Ā
Except for Ghost. He still spoke to youā well, as much as heās known to anyway. A hello in passing, a chat between sets in the gym, maybe when youāre queuing for food. As much as you wanted to take the opening, you just couldnt, too terrified to. After all, it was only a matter of time until Ghost left you aswell. You should know that you should savour every last moment, cling onto it tight, but you just can't. Itās not like you two were ever the closest anyway.
āāāāāā-
Youāve been moved to an omega team this time. Itās not the first time youāve worked with one, but usually they can balance each other out easier since they aren't as explosive as Alphas. It also means this is a mission you can't slip up on from the months of work theyāve put into this.
They welcome you immediately, and you grasp the ropes of it all fairly quickly, until itās finally the day. The prisoners are right where you expected them, and just as told, the one in the middle has explosives strapped all over.
They evacuate the rest out whilst you kneel down before the explosives, watching the wires and where they turn and twist intently whilst the person tries their best not to squirm too hard. Even with your best efforts, nothing seems to match what you know but you frown as you notice the wire reaching towards the chair theyāre bound to. Down to the floor.. a weak floorboard. The weight of the chair.. essentially a mine.
One hostage on that chairā you move her off and everyone dies. What do you even do?Ā
āDo not stand up at any point, okay? Iām going to get you out, but you have to trust me.ā Shrugging all the gear off, you cut the straps that locks the person to the chair.
You hand her your gear carefully and step back, just enough to reach the doorway. Thereās no telling how large this bomb is, but you can assume it cant be enough to seriously damage the ship youāre on.Ā
āOkay, you need to shuffle forward just slightly and place the gear behind you, okay? Then, when youāre ready, cover your head with your hands and run towards me.ā The woman trembles, doing as you told and the weight of the gear seems to be a good enough trade off for the mine to not set off.Ā
After that, she bolts, and you pull her through the doorway and as far away as possible, shielding her as the shockwaves rattles through the ship.
āāāāāāā
Ghost hadnt expected to see his phone buzz at this time, by the infirmary no less. But when they relayed what happened, he had made his way there immediately. You had just come out of surgery, a high enough dose of anaesthesia in you that you just werent acting right. He intended to wait outside until you stabilised, that is until the nurse rushes out suddenly.
āWould you mind coming in, sir? We need someone to restrain them.ā
He steps inside to see you squirming against another nurse, slurring and trying to escape your bed, clearly panicked.Ā
āStop that, youāre going to hurt yourself more.ā He reaches for your flailing wrists, forcing the nurses out the way as they stand at the back and watch you get manhandled by the alpha.Ā
Something in his gut feels uncomfortable with the stains of red across the bandages across your body, burns peeking out of some. So he carefully restrains your wrists against each other, holding them firmly.
āL-lieutenant?ā You stammer out, dazed eyes searching for him intently until you manage to focus on his mask. Finally you stop freaking out for a moment. He turns but the nurses are already gone, probably called to another patientā the operation you were on had quite a few injuries for different reasons.
āYeah, itās me. Yājust came out of surgery, youāre okay now, alright?ā He carefully lets go of your hands, helping you reposition yourself after you had tried to squirm off the bed. āIāll grab the nurse, then we can see when we can get yāoutta here.ā
The nurse?
You blink at him, looking around at your surroundings, the sterile smell of the place attacking your nose. Simon was an alpha.. and the nurses, well specifically in this wing.. your eyes glance to the sign outside the door, the familiar writing.
āNo- no you cant!ā You barely manage to grasp his arm as he pulls away and he looks at you in confusion. The beeping in the room starts getting even louder than before, almost incessant and you feel like your chest is going to explode.
āYour heart rate is rising, sarge. You need helpāā
āLieutenantā no, please-ā You whine pathetically as he pulls away from you, leaving him stunned until he reluctantly steps closer again before you throw yourself entirely out of the bed to reach him.
āI wont let āem hurt you, promise.ā He can only assume you must be scared of needles or something, a fear of medical care surely. He never knew that about you, and it spikes something in his chest, a cog in his head. The fear radiating off of you is palpable, and he can smell the faintest change of your scent in the air.Ā
āNo- no! The nurseā sheās an o-omega, you cantāā You choke out, head getting dizzy from all the sudden movement as you desperately clutch his sleeve. It forces him to stay right there, not the grip on his sleeve but the desperation in your eyes.
āSargeā iām not gonna act like a wimp in rut from talking to an omega.ā He huffs but he knows youāre out of it. It must be the anaesthetic getting to your head, making you say all these silly things.
āYouāre going to leave me- youāre going toāā A sob escapes you as grip loosens on him and he freezes, watching you curl into yourself. Your forehead gently hits his arm, tears wetting his sleeve.
āIām right here.ā He says, voice quieter and it makes him breathe relief when the beeping settles down to a steadier rate, even if it is still high and you look even worse like thisā so lost and terrified.
āYou are..āĀ You sniffle, pressing your nose further against his arm. āt-the omega nurse- she- sheāll come and youāll leave with her. Youāll leave me- a-and never speak to me again, please- lieutenant please.ā Your hands tighten and he swallows sharply, letting your words sink in.
It was never about envy, not even the way you stared at them whenever they spoke about omegas. It was pure fear. And this feeling in his chest, it was tightening with each soft sniffle from you, instincts flaring. Heās never felt like this in his life, infact he was convinced he never would. But he just cant stand the sight of you like thisā the bloodstained clothes, the fear in every small movement, your vulnerability.Ā
He steps forward without thinking about it, his free arm gently prying you off of him until you fall back against the pillows. āNot leaving you for some random omega, you silly beta.ā He scolds, picking you up off the bed until your head rests on his shoulder, sniffling into his shirt.
āGonna take you where you belong. Gotta tell me if i hurt you, though.ā Warmth spreads through him now that he has you against him like this. It clicks something in his brain he didn't know was waiting for a stimulant.
All that leaves your lips are the sobs that keep coming, staining his shirt, but finally settling now the dizziness has settled. āDont go.. donāt, please, you cant..āĀ
Youāre right, he cant keep you around these omegas and all of this. No, he needs you to be healing properly around things you likeā you want. He needs to look after his beta.
He grabs your duffel off the chair where itās left, checking the corridor twice before marching through the quiet corridors towards the barracks.Ā
Hii hello today I offer you a messy comic! āā (ā ć»ā ćā ć»ā )ā āā āŖ Tomorrow? .... let's not think abt tomorrow lol. Didn't sleep + my back is damaged beyond repair but uhhhhh... worth it?
Had that scene from more blood stuck in my head so I wanted to draw Flora in a similar situation c:
The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.
Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.
So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.
Bears. Theyāre everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.
As the OP of this post, Iām going to threaten that if this gets to one million notes by the 10 year anniversary on 1 June 2026, one year from today, I will get a lower back tattoo of the loch ness bear monster.

was listening to jeff buckley and thinking about the horrific cycle of sacrificial brides. one thing led to another;
shu falls for a sacrificial bride, who suffered the same fate as all the rest
warnings: mentions of death, gore and violence
ā lonely is the room, the bed is made | shu
Sacrifices werenāt given funerals.
Sacrifices were scraped off the floor and buried in unmarked graves on unmarked hillsides. They ceased to exist as soon as their brittle, broken bones hit the cold, damp earth. Tasted, tested, forgotten. That was the way of things.
Why, then, did Shu feel like a piece of him was buried with this last one, out there in that forest, that haunted sea of soil and corpses?
He didnāt follow the familiar that disposed of her, nor did he mark the spot where she now lay. Too troublesome to stare at a heap of dirt, to know that the girl beneath is now just a mangled mass of sinew and innards and torn skin. There was no point in grieving that, was there?
But she would not let him seal this away like he allowed her to be.
Her screams cut through dreamless sleep, piercing over strings and sonatas. They rang in his ears as if the throat they were torn from still existed.
And every time he closed his eyes, he saw her. Her gaze, frantic and fawn-wide as she was dragged away by her torn shirt-collar. Her quivering hands reaching for him, each finger joint taut with their own separate pleas.
He saw lacquered wooden door gleaming as it slammed shut, a plank of wood that he could have easily splintered to get to the other side.
But he did not. Would not.
That same door stood now, intact as ever, thrown open to the bowels of her last living moments.
The blood and guts were scrubbed away, the room combed over until it looked unlived in. There sat the same four poster bed with its creamy pink duvet, and the cherry wood vanity with the bite of nail marks along its surface.
It was the same room that a hundred girls lived and cried and died in. It was the maw of a beast, always ready for the next one to come alongā¦
And it was stripped bare. There was nothing left, nothing physical, that belonged to her. Not her useless trinkets scattered along the desk or her cream-coloured coat that she kept slung over the back of her chair. Not even a whisper of scent remained.
Rain beat against the window, the wind howling and slamming against the glass. Shu opened it with shaking fingers, letting its icy tendrils spill over the window seat cushions and washing over him in rivulets.
She would be with him forever now, the memory of her.
He remembers her as the rain begins to seep through his cardigan. Her, with the sunlight gliding over her hair in the golden stillness of early morning. Her, warm and soft and alive in his hands, pulse ticking beneath his palm and blood velvet on his tongue. Her, broken and battered and unrecognisable, reduced to an aftermath.
This manor had never lacked for ghosts. This very place was a tomb⦠his, hers, what does it matter?
All he knew was that he had welcomed another haunting. This nothing-girl would follow him to the end of his miserable immortal life.
He could hear her voice on the wind as it rushed into the room. Branches careened against one another as the weather swelled and surged.
Thunder cracked in the distance. Frigid fingers, gnarled and soil-crusted, closed iron-bound around his neck.
How could you let this happen to me? a gusty throat wailed, mournful and accusatory. How could you?
Something knocked rhythmically in the night storm as he choked on tears he had no right to. It was a heartbeat, slowing towards an inevitable end. It was her again, crying out;
Guys Iām thinking of releasing the rewritten prologue! Chapter One is very close to being coded but Iām so excited⦠I may drop a release date soon š§
āWell done Subaru! You hit the bullseye!ā Yuiās jovial voice and clapping filled the room as Subaru steps back from the dartboard. He looks chuffed with himself before scowling.
āTch, course I did. I would be a shitty vampire if I couldnāt do this much.ā
Laito sighs. āAh~ thatās true, darts is like child's play for a vampire. Subaru give me a turn.ā
Bickering then began and Evelyn from her seat in the corner prepared herself for a headache. They hadnāt noticed her yet, too wrapped up in arguing with each other and bothering Yui to pay her any mind. She was here first anyway, having developed the habit of sneaking off to the game room after dinner most days to try to nap. The unused state of the room, its small size, and its far away location from the various brotherās regular haunts made it a calm enough space she could get a short tense nap for an hour or two on one of the two sofas hugging the wall. Well used to anyway, now sheās seen people in here any hope of a nap here is dashed. She had arrived and settled in on the verge of finally sleeping only to be interrupted by Subaru and Yuiās arrival. How those two ended up hanging out and playing darts was beyond Evelyn but didnāt change the fact she was now stuck waiting for a moment that the door was free and they were distracted enough for her to slip away. Laitoās arrival then cemented her need to escape as quickly as possible. Thankfully the two brotherās arguing will keep them busy and with any hope the Yui girl will keep her mouth shut if she spots her.
āOi! What are you doing hanging around with these idiots pancakes!ā Ayato barked out, marking his arrival and killing Evelynās hopes further. Yui takes her place by his side much to the chagrin of the others. What was the relationship between those two? The girl followed the vampire around constantly, knowing he was capable of killing her at any moment. The vampire was even more bizarre. Listening to her and following her around as if on a leash while complaining. Yet he is a Sakamaki, a prince, and therefore a member of the majority of vampire society which view humans as nothing more than food or at best pets. They do not entertain notions of love or care towards humans. Evelyn knew Richter had been involved in an affair with Cordelia but surely Ayato was still the kingās child and not Richterās. So why entertain a human girl? Why hold a sentiment absent in his entire family save his uncle who actively interfered in his mother and fatherās relationship? As the arguing continued to intensify Evelyn pondered all of this, zoning out as her only escape route was blocked off.Ā
āWhat on earth is the cause for all this noise? Do you two lack any sense of decorum?ā The second eldest son entered the room causing the brothers to pause their bickering for at least a few minutes as he began to lecture them. Adelaide was with him and quietly moved to sit on the sofa by Evelyn. The two women exchanged a knowing look, Evelyn quirking a brow. Adelaideās eyebrows scrunched lightly as did her nose. Evelyn rolled her eyes. It was a comfort at least to know she was finding things just as difficult. Evelyn was constantly worried her issues handling Shu were setting her back while her sister was left with all the work. Before she could even try to speak both noticed the increased volume in the room as the fighting worsened.Ā
āShut up, youāre all so loud.āĀ
A voice sounds to Evelynās left causing her to flinch, all eyes snap to the sofas. Both the one she sat on with Adelaide, her presence now known. But also the sofa perpendicular to hers where Shu lay. Shuās ability to sneak up on her was unnerving to say the least. Evelyn was never the type to not notice someoneās arrival whether they teleported in or not. Yet Shu had this uncanny ability to appear without a single hair raising on her neck. It unsettled Evelyn deeply, as did most of the revelations she gained after each interaction with him. He lay there as if unbothered by the growing risk of violence in the room, earphones in and eyes shut as normal.
āShu stay out of this. Pancake lets go!ā Ayato grabbed Yui and made their leave. The remaining vampire attentionās now turned to the two women left behind and the vampire lazing near them.Ā
āAh Shu, you donāt need a whole girl to yourself, same as Reiji. You should let us have a tasteā Kanato whined, gripping the bear he always carried closer to his chest. Kanato creeped out Evelyn. He was the least predictable and most volatile of all the brothers, and his worst moments were a terror to behold. Thus far Evelyn had only heard his meltdowns through the walls of the manor. She wasnāt eager to watch one up close.
āYeah you two should share with your younger brothers~ā Laito purred, sizing up Evelyn and Adelaide with a look that screamed trouble.Ā
āThat is a ridiculous notion, they have been given to us by our father to use as we see fit. You are not owed anythingā Reiji spat out, his penchant for sassy remarks almost reminded Evelyn of Adelaide. He pushed up his glasses, likely preparing himself to launch into another lecture before Laito interrupted.
āWhat about a game then? Whoever wins a game of darts gets first pick of one of the girls, second gets the remaining.āĀ
āWhat an effort.ā Shu muttered as Reiji scoffed.
āOf course you squirm away from the first sign of having to work for something. Itās pathetic,ā he adjusts his sleeves as he turns fully to glare at Shu straight on. āFrom the moment you were born you've had everything handed to you but never bothered to put any work in. If you look up the definition of a lazy coward in a dictionary you would just see a picture of him.ā
As Reiji got through his little ramble Evelyn slowly turned to look at Adelaide with an eyebrow raised. Adelaide meanwhile sat unphased playing with her necklace. The whole room was silent for a beat before Shu slowly sat up. Evelyn had to resist the urge for her jaw to drop, of all things she would not have expected Shu to be so easily goaded into competition. Yet there he stood squaring up to line up his shot. If it was so simple to get him to do this by just insulting him why hadnāt he agreed to her very good deal immediately?Ā
āIs he always that sassy or does he just on special occasions?ā Evelyn whispered to Adelaide, the boys too wrapped up in their game to pay them much mind.
āHe does quite like the sound of his own voice doesnāt he? Is sleepy always so easy to goad?ā There was no sound of joy in Adelaideās voice but the smile in her eyes made it clear that her sister had not lost her own sass or charm while stuck with the chemist.
āI wishā¦would make my life much easierā Evelyn scoffed as she turned back to watch as Shu hit a perfect treble 20. For the second time that night Evelynās jaw dropped.Ā
āMy, it looks as though we finally found someone able to give you a run for your money when it comes to targets.ā A smile finally graced Adelaideās face. Evelyn sat silently, eyes locked on Shu as he stood back to allow Reiji his turn at the board. While Laito was fair to call darts child's play to a vampire, their eyesight certainly made the game easier, aim was not necessarily something all vampires were blessed with. A vampire who always sleeps and doesnāt bother with anything would certainly not embarrass himself in a darts game with humans but wouldnāt be expected to land perfect scores straight from the get go. Richter had said Shu became apathetic rather young, and for a prince to learn archery or gunmanship instead of swordsmanship would be odd. Why would he bother with darts long enough to become an expert? How competitive is he? His brothers certainly mustāve believed they could win when setting the challenge. So surely Shu must abstain from play often. Evelyn was beginning to hate how little she could read of him.Ā
āā¦Oh my.ā Laito drawled staring at the chalk scoreboard. Kanato was beginning to huff beside him.
āNo fair, why does Shu always win?ā He stomped his foot on the floor as he pouted. Glaring at the blonde.Ā
ā...I am the oldest.ā Was all Shu had to say for himself, causing Reiji to scoff and shake his head. The game was over and done in just under an hour. Shu had soared ahead of most of them, Reiji was the only one coming even slightly close but Shu still had a clean 150 point lead. Evelyn had shifted during the game to sit with her legs tucked to the side as her arm rested on the armrest of the sofa. Staring at the board where three darts all sat neatly from Shuās last turn. Kanato continued to whine and complain as Shu turned to face the sofa. Shu and Evelynās eyes locked as he raised a hand to beckon her over.
āEvelynā¦come here.ā Shu speaks clearly for once and the others go silent as they seemingly remember what they were even playing for. Evelyn swung her legs around to the floor, while walking over she mumbles to myself.Ā
āSo you do know my name.ā The remark had a lazy smirk rising on Shuās face. Once she was within arms reach and stopped, Shu reached out to drag her closer by her forearm. The look of surprise on her face almost made him laugh as she tenses. His other hand reached over to her hip to hold her still as he sat back against the pool table by the darts board. Out of the corner of her eye Evelyn could see Adelaide stand suddenly as Reiji bristles and begins to complain.
āShu this behaviour is entirely inappropriate! You cannot just grab and drag her around. It is highly indecent and-āĀ
āShut up. You shouldnāt be complaining, you get to keep yours.ā Shu glared lazily at him as he moved his chin to rest on Evelynās shoulder. Her whole body was still and tense. Still uneasy after the last time he was this close.Ā
āBesides,ā he began. His hand raised to Evelynās nape to collect all her hair and ensure it was cascading down her back rather than blocking her neck.Ā
āYou came second, meaning you get my leftovers as always, be happy I chose this one rather than her.ā His eyes move to point toĀ Adelaide. Reijiās head moved between Shu and Adelaide before he scoffed once more and moved to grab her wrist and make their leave as he grumbled under his breath about the lack of manners. Adelaideās eyes did not leave Evelynās form until she was out of the room. Laito, Kanato, and Subaru also began to leave. Laito and Kanato were still complaining somewhat on how they must go hungry while Subaru glowered at nothing in particular. Within a minute Shu and Evelyn were alone.Ā
āWhat are you doing?ā She turned her head as much as she could with his head against her shoulder but still all she could see was his hair. She could feel her blood rushing in her ears as her heart beat so hard she was worried it would burst. She tensed as he chuckled to himself.Ā
āWhat a surprise, so you do get frightened.ā She could feel his neck rumble as he spoke. At the sound of his voice so close to her ear she shivered, a flush rising to her face.Ā
āWhe are you so close?ā she mumbled, hands stiff by her side.Ā
āIsnāt it obvious,ā his head tilting as his mouth moves to sit against the skin of her neck. āClaiming the victorās meal.āĀ
Evelynās blood turned to ice as his lips touched her skin. Jerking back, she briefly escapes his hold before sheās spun around and dragged backwards. Her back nestled against his chest as he laughed.Ā
āDonāt move, ā¦unless you want to lose an eye.ā His left arm raises, holding a dart poised 5 centimetres away from her right eye. Evelynās breathing quickened. Her mind raced. Why was Shu doing this, he had explicitly avoided biting her until now. She knew he was hungry, he must be unless he was secretly finding food somewhere else.Ā
She felt him move before suddenly she felt a sharp pain in her neck. She felt numb bare the sensation of his arm tightening around her and the sensation of his mouth slowly warming.Ā
āS-Shuā¦ā she gasped, her hands swinging up to grab his arm holding her still. Her eyes darted around the room as Shu slowly lowered the dart. Dropping it to the ground in favour of holding her even closer with both arms. Groaning as he continued to drink.
His teeth loosen as he pulls away slightly. He gasped out. āYour blood itās so hotā¦. it feels like itās burning my throat.ā His tongue caught a stray trail of blood oozing from the punctures. His nose pressed against her pulse as he inhaled, his mouth slowly opening once more. His teeth plunged back into her neck. Evelyn let out a sharp hiss, feeling slowly returning to her body as she became aware of the blood being drained from her.Ā
āShit that hurts.ā Her fingers twisted in the fabric of his cardigan sleeve. The soft cashmere juxtaposing the sharp sting of his fangs. His grip on her had not loosened but he had stopped digging his fingers into her sides. Instead one hand anchored itself on her right shoulder, and the other on her left hip. He held her firmly, his cheek pressing against her jaw. She could feel his skin warming, whether that was from the direct contact or from drinking her blood she didnāt know.Ā
Shu meanwhile seemed overwhelmed. Gulping down hot mouthfuls of blood. āNot bad, youāre nowhere near as sweet as Yuiā¦but Iāve generally preferred more savory food anyway.ā His mouth pulled away fully, seemingly done for now.Ā
āNever had a review before, although Iāve also never been bit beforeā¦ā Evelyn quipped as her hand rose to press against the wound to try and stem the bleeding. She could feel Shuās eyes burning into the back of her head. His hand rose to bat hers away, his tongue flattening against the wound and licking a stripe along her neck. He laughed as she tensed and shivered at the sensation. The moment head raised her hand flew to the wound to feel only slight raised bumps where his teeth had punctured. No doubt a harsh mark still remained but the bleeding was stemmed. Evelyn took a moment to catch her breath, Shuās hands had loosened and dropped to her hips but had not yet fully let go.Ā
āDoes that mean that deal is on? Or do I have to start screaming and struggling?āĀ

Evelyn and Shu had settled into a nice dynamic since the āschool eventā, as she has since come to think of it as. Neither had brought up the kiss itself, instead a quiet understanding of sorts had settled upon them. Evelyn could give as good as she got from him, and so Shu seemingly resolved to hover nearby as a silent watcher offering sarcastic comments from time to time. He still disappeared for days at a time often but he was certainly around much more than before. Irritatingly this most often included him napping on her bed while she worked. Ordinarily this was of no bother to Evelyn as he was quiet and, as an insomniac, she rarely used the bed herself. However, having reached a full 48 hours since she last had any rest she was running on empty. The words on her textbook were blurring and churning together in her brain, manifesting as a violent headache.Ā
āShuā¦,ā she began, massaging her temples in an attempt to soothe the dull ache of her skull. āI need to sleep, can I please have my bed back.ā A gentle rustle was heard as he moved his head slightly adjusting himself, followed by a heavy sigh.
āToo bothersome,ā was all he said, as his eyes stayed shut.Ā
āIs anything not bothersome to you?ā she muttered as she moved around pages of her most recent assignments. Sleep deprivation is a dangerous thing, it loosens the tongue and dulls your reactions. Of course Evelyn knew this already having been subject to the lecturing of both her sisters and Richter every time they caught her up burning the midnight oil. It was hardly her fault sleep eluded her. Her nightmares were hellish and near constant, her body unable to fall asleep always alert. How funny a girl who cannot rest for fear of losing diligence is paired with the living embodiment of sloth. Her assignments in a neat pile she turns to face the sleeping prince, her gaze hazy and unfocused.Ā
āWhat will it take to get you to leave?ā she ponders, pulling at loose threads on her oversized jumper. The formless thing engulfed her but she couldnāt bear to wear anything remotely skin tight in this place lest the more perverted Sakamakis take it as an invitation.
The question results in the opening of one eye, a light blue pool staring through her. Shuās head tilts towards you almost imperceptively, a heavy sigh leaving his chest.Ā
āJust sleep here as well, itās less effort.ā He shifts, lifting his right arm to fold under his head and reestablishing himself on the bed. Evelyn noticed at this stage that he had taken off his shoes, a welcome improvement compared to the mud and rain stains on her bedding. He smirks to himself, seemingly unable to resist opening his mouth to add a sarcastic comment. āWith how much of a pervert you are, how could you resist the chance to terrorise someone.ā
āTerrorise? Ah-ha so funny.ā The dry comment was all Evelyn could muster. Her head throbs behind her eyes, while her body refuses to sleep the side effects of that choice were making themselves known now.
With the exhaustion becoming too much to bear Evelyn groaned. Forcing her chair back she slowly stumbled towards the bed, her fingers still rubbing tight circles against her head. In her haze, her hand slid along her desk catching the edge of her notebook and slicing open her finger.
She went still, waiting for the sensation to register. Her whole body felt like it was stuck in molasses, slow and sluggish. Every movement a drag. Her hand raised, it felt so slow her head making the room spin. Eventually her fingers were held at eye level.
āShit!... that's hurt,ā she muttered sharply. With her hand in front of her she could see the slow formation of a fat bead of blood at her finger tip. The edges of the bead caught the light, almost glistening. What a simple yet complex thing blood is, she thought, its the essence of life itself yet it just looks like a red dot now. The bead grew quickly, fattening by the second. She puffed her cheeks exhaling a narrow sigh as if fed up with her own blood.Ā After a moment the surface tension broke. The blood slowly trails down her finger, taking a winding path following imperfections on the surface of her finger, pooling in the folds of her knuckles like tiny rock pools.Ā
Tutting, she began to move her hands toward her mouth. Yet before her finger reached her lips she felt her body jerk as she was twisted into the hold of the Shu. Moving faster than one could think possible, Evelyn's wrist was now firmly stuck in his grasp, with his other hand wrapped about her waist pinning her against him. The sudden movement caused a swell of pressure to pulse behind her eyes as she let out a gasp of pain.
āShu what is wrong with you!ā Pulling her arm lightly only led to Shu further tightening his grip. His pupils were tiny dots zoned in on her bleeding finger. His mouth was barely open but it was clear he was salivating. As Evelyn's brain caught up to her she realized the true gravity of her mistake. She had allowed herself to become complacent. She had forgotten that at all times she was in the presence of a sleeping lion growing more hungry by the second. And now she was about to pay the price.Ā
If it werenāt for her pending doom, Evelyn could almost appreciate the glow of the moment. The haze of exhaustion tinting the world. The moonlight was the main source of light now, the candle on her desk extinguished by Shuās sudden movement. The blood looked much duller now, no longer reflecting the warm light of the fire. Yet Shu glowed. His golden hair reflected the shine of the moon, like a halo. The shadows cast on his face only further brightened the pale skin not hidden. His fangs were brighter still, bone white peaks barely visible as his mouth hangs half open.Ā
But it was his eyes that most captured Evelynās gaze. The blue eyes are no longer deep blue pools, calm and distant. Instead they were sharp and stormy, it felt for the first time Shu was actually looking at her.Ā
Shu slowly leaned in closer, every inch of space closed between them less to her tensing more and more. Yet she couldnāt take her eyes away from his. She vaguely pondered what he saw. Surely in the dark she looked as dull as her blood, the bags under her eyes no doubt casting deeper shadows on her face. It wasnāt until he was less than 3 inches from her face that she eventually screwed her eyes shut as if suddenly able to pull out of her trance, her shoulders tensing up to her ears. She could feel his slightly chilled breath against her cheeks, feel the light brush of his hair touching against her ear. It was bizarre to not feel any notable warmth emanating off of him, the chill of the night or maybe Shu himself soaked into her.Ā She could feel goosebumps forming on her arms and legs even under the thick material of her hoodie.Ā
Shu was breathing through his mouth. The ragged inhale and exhales cause her heart to beat far too fast for her liking. If she had opened her eyes she was certain the only image she would see was that of a crazed animal, seconds away from biting into her neck.
āYou should be more careful.ā And he was gone.
Evelyn didnāt sleep for more than 4 hours that night. Or the night after. Her dreams were all of her drowning. Dark blue surrounding her and isolating her on all sides. No up or down. No sounds or feelings. Just a cold hollow feeling as she realises she cannot breath and she is entirely alone.
Shu had returned to being entirely elusive to her once more. Yet she still rounded every corner with held breath dreading seeing him. Her finger had healed by morning, the only evidence of the night before was the blood on the notebook which had cut her. She tore out the page and 5 pages either side tossing all of them into the fire and watching them burn lest the blood attract unwanted attention. She watched the flames lick along the edges and work their way in, taking slow deep breaths as if to remind herself she could breathe. The routine repeated for a week.Ā
During the week though she did have time to contemplate the situation. Shu hadnāt bitten her, why? It made no sense, she was delivered as food for him and he must be hungry. Maybe he was playing with her, maybe he didnāt like her blood, a thousand other maybes crossed her mind ranging from his fangs not working right to him wanting to drink when she asked for it. The last one making her laugh at the foolish notion of it all. Eventually she settled on the idea that he didnāt drink to avoid the hassle of running or fighting back, he did detest all things bothersome. That thought led to another until a half baked plan formed in her mind. She needed him to stay unbothered by the others and to have any hope of speaking to Adelaide, and he needed blood. Ayato clings to Yui too much to make her a viable option so she had to be the easiest choice for him to bother ordering Reiji to do anything.Ā
Perhaps in her life before the manor she wouldnāt run with such a weak hope but desperation was all she had at this stage. So she found herself searching corners and music rooms for him. 2 weeks after the incident she found him, sitting on the stairs leading down to the rose garden from the back porch near the kitchen. Rain pounding down, drowning out the sound of her shoes. She found herself approaching until she stood behind him with her arms crossed.Ā
āI have an offer for you,ā he didnāt respond, which was to be expected. Waiting a moment hoping his eyes would open or some movement to confirm he wasnāt asleep. Evelyn was beginning to suspect he slept much less than he seemed to for he was never truly asleep when she was near, always able to pass remarks on something to do with her. Yet he made no movement but she continued regardless.
āYou need blood and you detest effort. I need to see my sister. So I propose that you do that for me in return for a peaceful drink. Is it not less effort to order Reiji to let me see Adelaide than to chase down random girls?ā
āSo is this what you did while at Richterās tower? Offer up your wrist for petty favours, what a pervert," the mumble was progress. However he seemed to be losing interest.Ā Ā
āIāve never been bitten, Richter would never allow that.ā Shit, she spoke without thinking again. She needed to get her head back on straight.
āNever hmm?...What a drag, donāt bother lying its a paināĀ
āNo itās true.ā At least he wasnāt disappearing or laughing her offer down.
āSo what did you do while at my uncleās tower?ā This wasnāt good, he was too intelligent at times and so easy to underestimate. She needed to come up with something fast.Ā
āI danced.ā she mumbled, the first half-truth to come to her mind that was a plausible reality. But instead a chuckle greeted her ears as Shu disappeared.
Rewrite: First and foremost, Iām going to be rewriting Softly, Opulent. I have much improved in the time since that first demo dropped, and Iām going to rewrite it to show it. Along with the rewrite, some things in the story will be tweaked:
Characters: Some characters are going through a rework. I had an idea for their stories thatās changing now. The ROs will be tweaked just a bit tooābut don't worry, theyāll keep those basic traits that they have already.
Magic System: This wonāt be a drastic change with what I have in the demo. But there is some mention of Dalia having magic in chapter one. Itās very brief, but Iām taking it away. There is also an option in the intro post to learn magic but thatās not going to be an option anymore. Magic will still exist in the world, but be much more restricted and only a few select characters will use it. Thatās because all magic comes with a price, in the words of Rumpelstiltskin and all that.
Rating: The story is going to be 18+ now. Itās not a really big change, but the reasons for this is simple: there will be sexually explicit content and more in this rewrite, while the plan was only suggestive content before.
Redesign: The itch.io page will be going through an update, and so will the intro post here on tumbler. I will make an updated intro post with the updated info soon. More importantly, the UI of the story itself is going through a rework too.
Pronouns: I want the MC to be more grounded in the world. Gender roles will be more prominent. Iām adding a transgender option instead, if thatās something that people arenāt against. Iām not sure about the non-binary option. I wanted to remove the option to have that choice in the very beginning. Let me know if itās something you guys want to have as a choice later on (when MC is in a healthier environment), as itāll take into account whether MC is AFAB or AMAB. (If this makes sense.)
A. Iām on the fence about making Aās gender the opposite of MC no matter what. Let me know if everyone would hate that. I'm only considering this because I wanted to have homophobia be a factor in some stories. But Iām willing to do away with that if everyone wants Aās gender to be their choice.
I think Iāve covered roughly everything. I know this is a lot to take in and I hope it isnāt a deal breaker for some people. The foundation of the story will remain the same!
As for my last question: would everyone rather me finish the rewrite of whatās available so far in the demo and post the update, or would everyone rather wait for me to release completed chapter two with it instead?
Iām pretty sure that Australians donāt have more then maybe 30-50k MAX people on tumblr. Like American had some 30 million users in 2020 (aka basically probably peak over the last 7 2018-2025) while Australia only has 26-28million people depending on who you ask (27 to be safe) so Iām just genuinely curious how many of us there must be on here.
If you Currently live in OR were born / raised in Australia and ID as (born/raised + ID, as I know a lot of born/raised here donāt ID as Aussie) you are Australian in this poll!
People should feel humiliated to be using AI to write stories. Storytelling is one of the oldest human traditions and you're gonna look me in the eye and tell me you today can't figure out any other way to do something cavemen were doing 10,000 years ago?
AI is also SOOOO bad for the environment. We already have people that think global warming is a hoax, why should we let people use an artificial source of intelligence that requires 16.9 oz of water (a water BOTTLE) to COOL down after one singular use. School is genuinely not that hard to the point where you need AI; students past 5 years ago made it just fine.

not to be problematic but i literally do not give a shit about age gaps when dating vampires. they thirst for your blood. "but it's predatory!!!!" yeah. it is. "they're preying on you!!!" they're vampires. they do that. "it's a power imbalance!!!!!!" what part of vampires are you not getting
they eat people and can turn into bats and crawl around on walls, lizard fashion, and can hypnotize you with your eyes. a) the age gap is not the creepy part and b) the creep factor is kinda the appeal
they donāt age. thatās part of the horror of it actually. would you accept eternal life, if you can never progress? can never grow or change? youāll live forever, eternal youth, but frozen exactly as you are now. you will never become the person youāre meant to be. you are trapped in the mind of a 17-year-old forever. also ātheoretically old if you disregard the fact that heās a vampireā doesnāt even make the top 20 worst things about edward cullen list. girl heās mormon. prioritize
I think sometime we go too far in discourse about age gaps or other problematic tropes in fiction and their potential to influence real life. This reminds me of the Belle is a Stockholm syndrome case bullshit which isn't true she doesn't display those symptoms at all when you don't do revisionist history; or the true loves kiss is rape in Snow White even though it is established that the prince and Snow know eachother at the beginning of the film. Or even the Baby it's cold outside song.
Fiction is somewhere where you suspend your belief. You're engaging in a fantasy world where vampires are real you can't just push irl context into it. If this was real life obviously you'd want the LI to all be over 30 when age gaps mean less and less in terms of maturity and how much time you've had to establish yourself.
Some of the best vampire stories have an undertone of heartbreak as the vampire will outlive their love, multiple times if it's a reincarnation world. This relies on the age of the vampire and is not possible with the age discourse. If vampires were real yes we would judge the age gaps and fairly so, but we're not in the real world. Same as BDSM or porn most studies saying these make people violent are lies funded by often very religious groups who preach purity culture. It's ok to like something in fiction as more often than not it's not the age gap itself, it's the idea of an age old vampire finding someone so normally insignificant so important, it's finding biting attractive as it's a physical tangible sign or love and want and need.
Point is we go too far sometimes in our judgements and while I do see the benefit of people using things like fifty shades as an example of abusive tactics to help get eyes on it and as something to bring interests or enjoyment to a topic. However you can't just only shit on things all the time just because it doesn't fit YOUR individual moral code. Morality is variable in many areas and the issue with censorship.
