Welcome to Kingâs Reversed Fic Request game, in which you show me the finished product, and I create the story. What is this? Essentially I have found myself in a rut in which I am unable to finish one-shot fanfictions due to a compulsive nature requiring me to write no less than 10k for anything I publish. As Iâve finished several longfics or long series, some as long as 300k-550k, I do not need more practice writing longform fiction!!!
But thereâs more to being a skilled writer than longform. The art of the short story is something most writers discount, and I wish to become much, much better at it⌠And thatâs where you come in.
You, reader, friend, anon that haunts my dreams, will be able to submit any fic concept that you want to read, presented with the information you might see while browsing Ao3. Ships, Tags, Synopsis. You show me the fic you want to click on - I make it clickable.
Yes, this means youâll be writing a synopsis without context. A hook meant to catch a peruserâs attention without spoiling the plot, or a dangling question waiting to be addressed⌠whatever you would see in the description of a fic on Ao3, you include⌠This means you can decide the tone, the genre, the characters, the subject⌠but you cannot decide any twists, turns or endings.
I am aiming to write fics within the 500 - 6k word category. This is, in case you didnât know it, below my average chapter length in most cases. Hence⌠hence why I need the practice. Adjust your synopsis accordingly, for a short one-shot format.
If youâre interested in throwing me a challenge, continue to read for more specifics⌠sorry I yap so much!
All Fics will eventually be posted in an anthology collection! I will probably backlog a couple fics to post all at once, and then from there post as I write them.
**Please Note:** If I receive more than⌠2 of these, I wonât be able to guarantee them all or do them in order. HOWEVER, I kinda want to set a goal for myself to complete one every week or two, so submit, and donât come at me if I write it months later.
**Submissions should be received in the Ask box so that I may respond to them with the link to the fic, making it clickable! Please submit as many as you like!** - Anon or Non-Anon asks allowed, however if you are going to do it on Anon, please consider giving yourself a codename or signing off with an emoji unique to you or something, I will be unlikely to prioritize anon asks if I think thereâs a chance Iâm accidentally doing the same person back to back to back. (This also means, if you donât have an identifier and only submit one, youâre likely to be passed over out of fear youâre the same person as the othersâŚ) - I am going to try and intentionally stagger ships, people I write for, etc. to not repeat myself back to back.
All submissions can be long, or short - be wordy, be precise, your call. Please note some things:
Titles are completely optional, but for me theyâre often contributing factors into why I click a fic, so I wanted to give you the option of putting something you like in there.
Ships/Tags: You can include as many as you want, but donât be a little shit and tag contradictory things or stuff you know wonât make sense for a <6k one shot. (Slowburn is out, unfortunately!)
Rating: M, T, G - this one is also optional, but I know it does influence whether a lot of people open a fic, so go ahead and specify!
Synopsis: must be written like youâre writing the description of a fic youâre about to click publish on. Non-optional formatting. You may not include any other details about the plot beyond the synopsis and what youâve tagged.
Submission Format
Title: (Optional)
Rating: (Optional, M, T, G)

Synopsis:
I am willing to consider pretty much any submission, part of the game of this is to stretch out of my comfort zone a bit. However, please do not toss me rarepair ships just for the sake of âseeing how it goes,â my enjoyment out of this will come from being able to provide a fic for someone that they actually wanted to read. If you truly love a hyperspecific, obscure rarepair - go ahead! But please submit ships that you genuinely wish to read about.
In fact, in general, please submit things that you genuinely wish to read about. I will enjoy myself more that way.
Whitelisted subjects are not required, and in fact barely mean anything. Itâs just a couple of points towards stuff that Iâve been wanting to write myself and maybe am more inclined towards. But I almost didnât include it because it really wonât factor in so much as to what I choose to write. As for the blacklist, itâs just stuff Iâm not comfortable with that I need to say just to cover my basis. And for the record, if any of the blacklisted ships come up within a polycule⌠I probably donât like that polycule either. Or will write it without ever addressing that corner of the âcule :â)
Whitelisted Ships/Tags
DaiSuga, UshiTen, IwaOi, AranKita
Canon compliance concepts
Happy Ending, Fluff, Comedy
Blacklisted Ships/Tags
Crossover concepts with other media. (Unless you know it is something I have watched to completion and could manage.)
Dark Fiction Themes - yandere concepts where ships hurt/maim/kill each other, or otherwise fetishistic violence against the characters. Ideally youâve read my work before and know I will do a lot of violence against a character, this is specifically blacklisting the torture-porn esq nature of some dark fiction themes.

hii king! okay so iâve been seeing more talk about the upcoming fic and everyoneâs referring to it as the apartment complex fic and im getting fomo because i try to keep up with the posts but i think i missed you speaking about thisâŚcan you share when u started brainstorming it and what the general concept is but like without spoilers obviously! i guess this is me asking if i can get a summary of all youâve shared about it so far!
đ¤Łđ¤Ł I'm sorry I don't mean to leave everyone out!! This actually came from a comment I replied to someone with referencing an apartment complex, hence why you can't find it.
But I can still give you a breakdown of everything I've shared!!
I made a post about leaving Kageyama and Hinata out of drafting. Basically a year ago the rough skeleton of this plot came to me, and while I don't normally draft my fics, the concept takes place in an apartment complex, so for easy reference, I had started putting characters into room numbers to fill apartments and outline different relationships, who was neighbours, etc. This is the document I had found that somehow had 30 haikyuu characters listed, but not Hinata Shoyo and Kageyama. Hence why I found it so funny. This is also the post where I mention the apartment complex in the comments.
It's a massive ensemble fic, however it is still, unfortunately, the same core group that it always is. I tried to fill the apartment complex with more minor characters, but unfortunately, as my premise and plot shifted and adjusted, it's not likely to be a wild leftfield swing in my writing. Though you'll see some less used faces popping up!
The villain character is a true and proper villain. Unlike previous stories that have focused more on realistic antagonists, and having characters rooted in the story (like Kubo and Nusan), the villain for this is explicitly designed to be a villain, to cause as much harm as possible, and to be fought against. There is no secondary motivation for them.
Genre wise, it's a psychological thriller with just a dash of horror and fantasy! My goal is for slightly shorter chapter lengths, probably between 5-6k, and I'm expecting it to sit somewhere between 50-100k, but you know me đ¤
This fic has vastly changed since my original draft outline had started, but I really, really love the story that it's become, and hope I get the opportunity to share it with you! It is, of course, another dominantly Daichi POV, but you'll get to see all your favourite ships, plus a handful some of you might not give a shit about, and I will be putting them through the torment nexus.
I hope you'll all get to visit the beautiful grounds of the Rhododendron Hills apartment complex one day đ
Hey King, I remember that you had already answered asks about books recommendations (imajica is now in my tbr) but do you also have movie recs, or even some movies (ot books) that inspired you for your writing.
- Sorel
Now this is a very very very fun question. First off, I hope you have a hell of a lot of fun with Imajica! I guarantee you, if youâve never read or consumed anything created by Clive Barker before, youâre in for one fucking hell of a ride.Â
Below the cut is over 2500 words of yapping and I barely even say anything. Itâs just me talking about stories. Proceed at your own discretion.Â
Secondly, honestly, I REALLY struggled to come up with movies that have left a lasting impact on me. Truthfully, and perhaps shamefully, I am not really a âmovieâ person. So when I try to think of comfort movies or movies I return to, time and time again, I donât really have an answer. In an unrelated post, I recently brought up Avengers Endgame, which does contain one of my all-time favourite movie moments, which is the scene of Captain America facing down the entire army along, but I would be incredibly insincere to try and claim that as my âfavouriteâ movie. Related, I think the Winter Soldier in one of the movies Iâve rewatched the most out of any film (barring âMiss Congenialityâ) but my love of the Winter Soldier movie has more to do with my obsession with Bucky and less to do with the movie.Â
For context on that Miss Congeniality joke, when I was 12 I had the flu, and my mother let me stay home from school alone, so to entertain me she gave me a portable DVD player, and all the movies we had in the house, which, since we were not a movie family, amounted to about 4 options, one of which was Sandra Bullockâs âMiss Congeniality.â I then proceeded to watch said movie about 4 times over the course of the day between vomiting my stomach out. NOW, inexplicably, whenever I have the flu - and only the flu, I have to be actively throwing up - I experience a sense of intense desire and urgency to watch Miss Congeniality, and need to have it up on my computer screen to feel settled. For the record, I know that this isnât my favourite movie because I have tried to watch it while healthy, and I find it entirely underwhelming and boring. But if I have a stomach flu, then this is my favourite movie. Fortunately (Unfortunately?) for me, I have a very strong immune system and havenât had a stomach flu in probably half a decade at least.Â
My favourite movies, as I could remember them, are probably â9â the movie about the little sackboy puppets, and âHowlâs Moving Castle,â because obviously.Â
But where I lack in movie experience, the answer youâre looking for is found in television shows. I was a TV girlie growing up, my Dad often making a day of binging 2-3 episodes of whatever show of the season we were watching. And as a result, I think they have left a greater impact on me. Picking a âFavouriteâ TV show is probably just as hard as picking a favourite movie, but I do have a few answers.Â
First, the one I always have to say, because it owns a piece of my heart I can never return: Doctor Who. Now I know, here on the great Tumblr.org, saying you âlikeâ Doctor Who is unsurprisingly and perhaps commonplace. But I should have you know that Iâm SPECIAL about it, because I liked Doctor Who without knowing what Tumblr was, my dad introduced me to the show, and I spent all of my elementary school years - read, literally 7, 8, 9 years old - running around telling people about the Weeping Angels and the Daleks and the sound of drums. So I was no fairweather fan of the show, I ride or DIE this shit, especially the earlier seasons of the revival. And I think, if you have season earlier seasons, Eccleston through Smith, you WILL see the impact it had on my writing. This impact is formulated deeper down, in the structure and themes of the show. A main character, who above all else refuses to give up on humanity? Character deaths that are not meaningless shock value, but deeply mourned, every civilian lost a heavy, emotional weight on the heroes? Goodness being a fundamental necessity of society? Kindness being your greatest strength? Perseverance, hope, above all else? Fucking hell, donât ever let the internet convince you that a show has to be good to be good. Doctor Who is a MESS of shitty, insane early 2000s CGI, questionable dialogue and cringe reveals, but by god when you get Rory Williams willing to break time and space to save the doppelgangar of his wife after he had already saved the original because there is no version of her that he would not burn down Heaven for having to be held back screaming by the Doctor? No show comes close.Â
If you havenât watched Doctor Who, man, Iâd say give it a shot but you really have to be willing to deal with some whack ass visual effects.Â
What else has affected my writing?Â
Maggie Stiefvaterâs âThe Raven Cycleâ is probably the piece of media that has single handedly changed my writing the most. Is this book series âgood?â I couldnât tell you. I can remember almost nothing about the plot except a man becomes a forest and a corpse of a welsh king is in america for some reason and Gansey doesnât stop eating mint leaves but THATâS NOT THE POINT. Also, no, I havenât read the dreamer sequels, I donât have time for that shit, thatâs not the point either. Iâm going to try and give a more serious review of this series now to explain why it changed me so much.Â
1. There is not a SINGLE character in this series that is not vital to the plot of the books. You might be inclined to go âWell there must be side characters or supporting characters or-â NO. You get introduced to 4 Raven boys, and all four of them have completely different and vitally important paths to play. No secondary love interest who conveniently stops coming around when itâs no longer necessary. Blue (the Main Character) has a ridiculously big family, and all of the named family members play a role in the story. You donât think they will, but they do. There is NO set of characters that give you the âwell, those probably could have just been one personâ thing. And EVERY time I write, specifically original work, I think of the Raven Cycle, and really try and focus on making sure each character is truly important to the plot, and cut them if theyâre not. I wanna write characters as razor sharp and perfectly balanced as these books. Theyâre also all so unique and distinct, and have such different ways of speaking, like⌠my god I could go on.Â
2. Richard Campbell Gansey III is the main love interest and the singular best boy. Also, heâs a rich kid, like a stinking rich kid, who DOESNâT HATE BEING RICH. When I tell you this was mindblowing to teenage me. I am so used to the pauper narrative, of âoh, the poor may be in poverty, but they have TRUE happiness, each otherâ that seeing a character that was a good person, an interesting character, and also like âno yeah I think Iâll take advantage of my money and I want to be rich because this is way betterâ was so interesting and refreshing, and it really REALLY changed the way I write character âvoicesâ in that sometimes âflawsâ as we see them from our perspectives are actually benign character traits. Allowing a rich kid to just be a rich kid, and like it, is a MASSIVE way to differentiate him from, say, the rich kids who are hiding it and donât like to talk about it (Ronan) or the kids who have nothing, and resent the rich for it (Blue, Adam), or whatever the fuck Noah had going on. In the same way, there is a scene with a girl in a hot orange bikini (iykyk) that absolutely stuns the fuck out of all the women-attracted people in that scene to the point of stupidity - and that scene also managed to single handedly change how I write. Because I found it relatively cringe, that the main love interest, the âgood charactersâ would so obviously ogle a woman in a bikini, but immediately I realized that is part of what made point #1 so immersive, how these characters NEVER stop being themselves, even when that leads them to being inconvenient, or âbadâ in a meta sense. Ie, sometimes your characters do things that arenât âmorally grey!â but âwow I thats embarrassing that they did thatâ and you HAVE TO LET THEM because thatâs how they feel real. Characters wonât stop being themselves when it becomes cringe.
I also HAVE to mention what might be my modern favourite television show, which isnât so much of something thatâs âchangedâ how I write, but definitely represents the type of writing I strive for, and thatâs âThe Magicians.â - Technically, itâs based on a book series. But I donât care, it deviates quite a bit from the book, though supposedly âthe book is betterâ but truthfully I canât say. The TV show, however, is 5 perfect seasons of some of the best character work and funniest shit ever. A lot of people will say the 5th season isnât as good, and I can see why people would say that, but I simply disagree. This show has some of the funniest, wittiest, sharpest dialogue and editing I have ever seen in a show, and when I tell you, I would have and still would sell my soul for Quentin Coldwater to be happy, I mean it. That is my boy, that is my son, he has severe clinical depression, and I want to keep him wrapped in a blanket for all of time. Also, I canât say it because it would literally spoil 4 seasons of build up and if you havenât watched this show you NEED TO, but FUCK, the reveal of the name of the type of magic Quentin can do, combined with the whole narrative and the way the story is framed makes me SOB.Â
If you DONâT KNOW, âThe Magiciansâ is a fantasy drama satirizing stories like the Chronicles of Narnia (specifically that one) though thereâs a little bit of Harry Potter in that theyâre going to magical school - tho itâs technically a magical university so thatâs fun. It follows Quentin discovering that magic is real, and using his hyper nerd knowledge from his favourite middle grade book series to save the world! HOWEVER, I am going to trigger warning this one because, not so much in the first season, but later on it deals HEAVILY with rape and sexual assault, suicide, even showing some of the assaults and the attempts, and thereâs a lot of animal and human mutilation, and honestly I get that it might become too much for some people, but itâs not handled badly, Iâve literally never seen anyone complain about the way these topics are handled. Itâs just graphic and I donât want to trick someone into watching something that hurts them, just because I like it. Itâs also just an incredibly horny show. Lots of sex jokes. But also all the characters are like 24 so what did you expect? But if you think itâs something youâll like, this show is worth every single minute.Â
And last but not least, Dirk Gentlyâs Holistic Detective Agency, the 2016 version, is some of the funniest shit I have ever seen, and I love with all my heart and soul, HOWEVER, this one got canceled early, so the second season ends on a cliff hanger, and because this show is a massive kaleidoscope of nonsense, literally itâs impossible to know what would have happened. Like most shows you can extrapolate, but this one was truly nothing. Itâs also apparently ânot a good adaptation of Dirk Gentlyâ because they really changed a bit, but itâs got fucking Elijah Wood in it, and itâs so funny. Like tears in my eyes, so funny.Â
I think that just about covers it⌠Doctor Who, the Raven Cycle, Magicians, Dirk Gently⌠Oh, a rapidfire session on other books I love: the Skulduggery Pleasant Series (also whip-sharp writing - Iâm beginning to realize Iâm a big fan of character work and dialogue specifically for my favs hehe) - the Artemis Fowl series, I ADORED Enderâs Game the book and think itâs the only book that NEEDS to be read before you watch the movie. The bookâs ending is picture perfect, and if youâve somehow escaped without knowing what the âtwistâ at the end is, you have a beautiful gift - go read Enderâs Game NOW. Classic High School read 1984 was something I greatly enjoyed as well - OH, and if you havenât read âIron Widow,â I think this is one of the only books tiktok has ever pushed that is 100% worth the hype. Iâm worried a little bit for the author, because the depiction of a womanâs rage against society in this book is so raw and visceral and keeps you so entangled in the story that I hope sheâs getting the therapy she needs. And itâs polyamory! She gets both boys and also her boys get each other. (this isnât a spoiler, itâs like 90% of the marketing for the book.) Iron Widow was the last book I read that I really, really devoured. Itâs sequel is sitting on my shelf, I havenât read it yet đ AND ALSO, Iâm going to include this book because it is a book that I fucking love, but you HAVE to give me the benefit of the doubt, because saying âI really liked one of Ayn Randâs booksâ seems like an insane pivot on my politics, but âWe The Livingâ was her FIRST book, and although it still has a lot of pro-capitalist messaging, it was from before she went cuckoo for coco puffs, and the pro-captialism is more about being anti-soviet-dictatorship, and it really is more bearable, I originally had to read it for a class but found it way more enjoyable than expected. If you can handle a bit of complicated politics in your reading, I do recommend this one. I do NOT, however, recommend Atlas Shrugged or the Fountainhead. Those were written AFTER she went crazy, and should be ignored. But goddamn, her prose is amazing, even if the contents are iffy.Â
Now as a finale, Iâll give an honorary mention to a book that genuinely changed how I perceive the world, but itâs not a fiction book, so itâs probably not what you were looking for. But for any history lovers, or non-fiction readers, or anyone who wants to give it a shot, âPox Americanaâ by Elizabeth A. Fenn is one of my favourite books. It details the role of Smallpox in the inception of America as a new country, and her main thesis of Smallpox being one of the most important players in Americaâs birth, as if not more important that the British, the Revolution, and the land itself, truly changed how I think about the way history is remembered, and what brings change, and how history is far, far more than just the actions of individuals. But, it is an upper level history dissertation, so like. I donât expect anyone to read this one I just wanted to talk about it, because itâs texts like this that change how I write the most, because they influence my worldview, and deeply affect my worldbuilding, by helping internalize how multifaceted something like âa war for independence" can really be, and really strengthens the worlds I create and gives them more meaning and depth.Â

this isn't a question per se, i just wanted to know something
I've sent you a couple of asks over the past few months and they never got a reply WHICH I'M OKAY ABOUT BTW
i just wanted to know if you received them at all? only because now I'm worried it's a fault on my account's part which means i can't send asks to anyone else đ
if i don't get a reply from this, it'll be an answer enough đ
thank you!! and keep up the beautiful work king!! (ŕš>Řâ˘Ěŕš)
Haaaaaalllo!
Took a scroll through my inbox. Of course I wouldn't know if I didn't get something, so hard to say. I did see your name a few times so I think I did get them?
This goes for anyone who has ever sent me an also, by the way, not specifically you:
I am extremely socially anxious. And this presents itself in a few unique ways, since I've been told my social anxiety is very unique compared to most people's experience with anxiety. Basically, I tend to fail to reply to comments that:
1. Are overly complimentary of my work, since I hate the idea of looking like I'm publishing asks to flaunt the fact that I have people admiring my work
2. Include an asker's personal opinion that I disagree with, and/or that I don't think I can make a comment out of. I tend not to respond to topics I cannot be enthusiastic and excited about, specifically if I can tell the asker was very enthusiastic. I'm okay with disagreeing with more neutral topics, but if I can tell the asker loves the thing they're talking about, and it's something I really disagree with, I tend not to respond to that ask. "If you don't have anything nice to say," and all that.
3. Asks that I've answered before or multiple times, unless I have something new for funny to say
4. Asks that include spoilers for my own fics. I've REALLY wanted to answer a few asks but they'll just casually mention the end of one of my longfics.
And of course, some asks get no reply for more logistical reasons:
5. Whatever prompt it is, I didn't have a good idea for. Especially people who give me ideas for those headcanons posts where I go through the whole cast in a comedic way. If I can't actually think good headcanons about that subject, I tend to skip it.
6. I couldn't respond to an ask at the moment, and now it's been a few days and a mental block has been put up over it / I intended to save it for when I could write a better response and never did.
7. The asks are feeling too conversational. I don't like having to publish a whole tumblr post for all my followers to see to continue a conversation. I understand that its a relatively impersonal format which is why people like it, but much like this ask, if I can't turn the post into something that the majority of people can find some interest in, I rarely respond.
OVERALL, I adore receiving asks, and I want people to continue sending asks, and I love responding to them so much, because everyone I've met has been so creative and interesting and has so much to say. But much like the fact that I don't really text people back, I probably only respond to about 30% of asks I get.
So rest assured, if you have been the victim of my refusal to respond to asks and comments, IT IS NOT YOU. YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG. I TREAT EVERYONE THIS WAY.
I currently have 400 unanswered asks in my inbox. At some point, after enough time of not answering them, I sort of consider it a graveyard and just focus on new incoming asks. Like this one! đĽ˛
The same as my opinion on any fic, depends on the execution.
Moreso than anything else, writing a heist is an exceedingly difficult challenge, because they're often treated like an adventure/action genre, when in reality, the process of events in a heist story needs to be written with the same airtight logic as a murder mystery novel.
Basically heists are really, really easy to do badly. The payoff would be exceptional if done well, but...
ohhhh kingggg i have a question!!! from reading many of your fics where the characters are on the verge of death or are threatened by death, i wondered if youâd ever write a fic where a haikyuu character actually does die. donât get me wrong, i love ur fics because itâs all of them surviving together and trauma bondingâŚnot dying. but i wondered if you were to write a fic like this(like maybe one of ur longer fics where they have to survive as a group or etc) how would u go about it and HAVE u ever considered it or maybe in the future would u include it?
Hallo friend,
First off, Yes! I have written one fic where I can confirm Daichi definitively does die. Itâs called Danza Della Morte, and itâs vastly underrated in my opinion. This is not a trick fic like Astrophilia turned out to be (even tho Astrophilia, if read without its sequel as it was originally intended to be read, does also count, sort of.) Italian Catholic Daichi gets murked by God with the rest of the peasants, and thereâs nothing Suga can do about it.
And to answer your question more accurately, I have not technically written a âsurvivalâ fic that counts as MCD. I do consider it every time. Thereâs always that question of âdamn, am I gonna kill someone this time?â
The truth is, unfortunately, probably not. Not absolutely not, but probably not.
I am the - hehe pardon the pun - king of âfine, Iâll do it myself.â
I donât like most fanfiction, I donât like most other stories, I struggle to read fics written by other people because even irrelevant, small characterization details will piss me off. I donât read fics with Daichi in it, for that reason, but thatâs also why heâs always my main character. Because Iâm constantly in the âIâll do it myselfâ mindset, and what I want to read is the story where Daichi gets to be the hero, and bear an impossible weight that would have crushed anyone else. So I write it, again and again and again.
And I definitely never want to read MCD. I donât find it interesting, mostly. I donât want to read the story where half the Karasuno team dies in the woods, because the only thing that makes a survival fic interesting, to me, is the survival.
Iâve said this about horror movies, but if the common genre convention was that the victims in a horror movie survived and killed the violent deranged serial killer, I would watch every single horror movie that comes out. But because the genre convention is that everyone dies and ohhh boo hoo itâs so gruesome and tragic, I literally donât give a shit about the genre at all.
I want - no, I need - that moment at the end of the story where the main character drags themselves out of the mud, spits blood and keeps walking. Thatâs the only reason I read horror or survival stories - to watch people not break. To watch them surpass their own limits, to prove that the human spirit is worth more than being killed off in the woods.
I know that that means there are lots of good stories that wonât get written. That survival stories are a varied category, and Iâm limiting what can be done with my writing. But emotionally, Iâm still stuck in 2019 in Avengers Endgame, watching Captain America stand up to fight against the entire invading alien army alone. Iâm in that moment now and forever, and that is the only type of story I want to create. Especially with my fanfiction.
Ironically, several characters die in my original novel, but if we wanted to talk about the difference between original and fan writing weâd be here all day. The sparknotes version of it is just that my fanfiction, for me, isnât as nuanced. And Iâm allowed to write the same version of Daichi doing the same things and learning the same lessons over and over and over again as long as I like. Mostly people write the same tropes between their ships. I keep trying to break Daichiâs spirit, just to watch him prove that humans are not breakable at all. Weâre all a family here.
SO, the answer. What is the answer? Yes, one day I might kill off a bunch of canon characters in a MCD survival fic, if that becomes the story I want to read. I mean, I did it once before, in Danza Della Morte, so it is something that can happen, if the right idea strikes me. But by god, the world has tried to convince me that death and nihilism and edgy, depressing horror is a more interesting narrative before, and itâs failed the last two decades, so I donât think thatâs going to be any time soon.
God I hope I get to write and publish this fic I'm writing, the villain is so fucking sick I want to share it with the world. And yes, VILLAIN, not antagonist.
I was looking through the brainstorm document for a massive ensemble fic I put together a while ago because I've been thinking about getting it written and it has legitimately SO many characters, literally so many characters, every Haikyuu character, but do you know who WASN'T in my initial outline of every haikyuu character? Fucking HINATA and KAGEYAMA.

Like obviously Hinata is the first and most important person is Kageyama's life, since the second they set foot in the same gym. Kageyama is someone who believes (at least, at 14 years old) that he cannot be wanted for who he is, which is why Hinata, who wants him furiously for who he is, is so important. But Kageyama is more that one thing. He is, wholly, volleyball focused, but even the most one track mind person occasionally watches a movie they like and want to talk about, or has a favourite flavour of bubblegum, or a funny story from when they were forced to take piano lessons as a kid. And I think Kageyama, long after he finds a volleyball team that loves him, still struggles with the idea that he himself might not be something people want. If volleyball - god forbid - was removed from the equation, would any of his friends even want him around? Most of all Hinata, who he almost only talks with about volleyball. Is he something people can want, when he's just a guy who didn't like the most recent blockbuster movie, and breaks headphones way too frequently and really hates the taste of mustard?
And I think he wrestles with this, throughout first year, certainly throughout second, watching Yachi and Hinata and Yamaguchi laugh and play in the sun and it seems so easy for them to want to be around each other. And all he can think to do is yell at them, and ask them to get back to practice, because at least if he's playing volleyball he knows they want him around.
But they're distracted, and practice is over anyway, and the day is so beautiful, so he doesn't stop their mischief, he just turns and heads over to where Tsukishima is sitting on one of the school benches. Tsukki scoots over as Kageyama approaches, and he takes a seat without saying a word. They sit in silence, for a moment, while Hinata and Yachi and Yamaguchi laugh raucously in the background, before Tsukki suddenly sits up, offering one half of an earbud over to Kageyama.
"What's this?"
"That song I was talking about. I know you said you weren't super into rock stuff, but I think you'll like it."
Hinata, sitting down next to Suga, hands fidgeting: Sugawara... I'm a little nervous. Tomorrow is my first ever Valentine's day being in a relationship. I want to make it special, but I'm not really a romantic person, and I'm really scared of fucking it up. What if I do too much? Or not enough? I really don't know what to do...
Suga, eyes widening slightly, staring off into space in alarm: Tomorrow is Valentine's day?
---
Daichi, passing by Kageyama in the middle of cleaning up the gym. "Yo, you excited for Valentine's day? First time spending it with someone, right?
Kageyama, looking around to him in alarm: Wait - when's Valentine's? Is that today?
Daichi: Tomorrow, but-
Kageyama: TOMORROW?

Noya, lounging back against Asahi's shoulders, chewing on a strawberry:
Asahi: Oh, shit.
Noya: What is it?
Asahi: I forgot to remind Suga that Valentine's was coming up.
