recovering memories :')
Was there a person in the world who did not feel injured by their childhood? I felt maimed in some elemental way. But I knew this from teaching, and from reading books: so did everybody.

It all just really confuses me
Sometimes, she thinks, memory lodges in the body. She’s always suspected that people have been wrong about the brain, about the flashes of light and color sparking in its folds, compressed by hard skull. Memory travels down arms and legs familiar with the dance, under the arch of the spine or the foot. The body remembers.

At times, recovering feels even harder than survival. during the surviving, fractions were lived one at a time, while in the remembering, I am both who I was then and who I am now, and sometimes, everybody else in between.
Now, I am the child living through it, and I am the adult who knows better — an adult who could never do the unthinkable. And reliving it in all these simultaneous viewpoints is a heartbreak I can barely describe. It rips apart a soul in ways I wish I didn’t know.
Trying to heal yourself is not the same as trying to fix yourself.
Living beings are not objects, and so don't get broken or damaged. They become wounded or fall ill. You deserve healing because you deserve to be free of pain, not fixed so you can be of use.
You are not worth only as much as what you can do for others. You do not have value because you function. You have value because you exist in the world.
