Kelis, 2000
Love the subtle clowncore makeup
you look like the kinda girl who'd open up ms paint back in the day select the spray paint tool and click and hold to watch it slowly turn into a perfect circle
I gotta be honest this still sounds like a great time. It’s giving etch-a-sketch, 8/10

today im thinking about the huge buff bread guy from kikis delivery service. highly underrated guy
Genuinely just a good man. Wife adopts teenage witch that needs a place to stay in the city? Sure. Even though you got a kid on the way? That’s fine. Cat too? Love cats.
My favorite moment with him is when he goes to get some prepped baking sheets and he does this fancy twirl with them in front of Jiji. Like, there’s no other people in the room, he does this to impress a cat.
I don’t think he ever says more than a whole word the entire movie, and I still love him more than most Disney princes based on this one moment alone.
And the part where he wanted to surprise Kiki by making that beautiful elaborate sign OUT OF BREAD to advertise her business and he was all anxious for her to get home and see it
But then when he sees her coming he gets all bashful and runs away 😭
the most underrated thing about the ghibli movies is how deeply they are love stories to working people, to the small folk, to moments of love and kindness. its not just about magic, many movies are about magic and fairytales. Its not only about the people in the stories, but about stories in the people. And they are just loveable.
one of my worst writing sins is abusing my power to create compound words. i cannot write the sentence "The sun shone as bright as honey that afternoon." no. that's boring. "The sun was honey-bright that afternoon" however? yes. that sentence is dope as fuck. i do not care if "honey-bright" is a word in the english dictionary. i do not care if the sentence is grammatically correct. i will not change. i will not correct my erred ways. the laws of the english language are mine.
Not a sin at all!
This is what's called a poetic epithet, and it happens all the time in writing. Consider, for example, Homer and his wine-dark sea, or Shakespeare and his death-mark'd love.
If you were then to start using them instead of the word they're describing, you'd be making a kenning. For example, if instead of describing the sun as honey-bright, you said "the honey-drop in the sky". Kennings are best known from Norse writings, like "the path of serpents" for gold, or "Grímnir's lip-streams" for poetry itself.
So you're not sinning, you're participating in an ancient literary tradition!

this post is a moving example of the poetic power of the creative spirit,
an illustration that language and its associated rules exist to lift up human expression and not to hinder it (and are both constantly changing and maintaining helpful usage to suit the needs of the moment),
as well as a devastating reminder that whenever you think you’re doing something new and oh-so-scandalously inventive, it was probably actually the well-trodden pasttime of a glorified theater kid several thousand years ago.
isnt language beautiful?
I’ve seen more but these are the best ones I’ve been able to get photos of
Diver convince octopus to trade his plastic cup for a seashell
imagine if a fuckin……. giant alien just showed up and stuck a huge hand in front of your face and then proceeded to offer you three different houses and wouldn’t stop until you moved out of your old shitty apartment and then helped you fuckin move
and then just left
I first saw this on twitter and COULD NOT get over these comments:

The word loss was banned. I don't remember the consequences for saying/typing/using it, but it was really bad and you weren't allowed to say it. IRL and online. International.
"I am at a :.|:; for words" was a massive meme after the ban got lifted. (It existed for about two days dream time.)
I am at a :.|:; for words...
how tf are you guys doing that
colon, period, line, colon, semicolon
then strikethrough all of it
:.|:;
I prefer ,’ ,|’,’_ because then the last person is lying down :)

My adaptation of the God of Arepo short story, which was originally up at ShortBox Comics Fair for charity. You can get a copy of the DRM-free ebook here for free - and I'd encourage you to donate to Mighty Writers or The Ministry of Stories in exchange.
Again it's an honour to be drawing one of my favourite short stories ever. Thank you so much for the original authors for creating this story; and for everyone who bought a copy and donated to the above non-profits.
It never gets old and it always makes me cry.

idk if anyone has ever told you this before but going to college as a "non-traditional" student is actually a lot easier than going fresh outta high school.
like my tuition is far cheaper than the first time around because i'm returning to finish the degree i abandoned at the end of 2020, the degree i'd been working on since the fall of 2015, the degree that was a little kid and i was a dad running to the store to get milk, the degree now being offered to me minus 20%.
me going to college was never an if in my family, it was only ever a when.
so i went and struggled and self-sabotaged because i didn't know what happened next and it feels safe to control your hurt.
but now i'm going back and i'm married and have a 401k and a husband and i'm a bestselling author who got there even though i didn't have that pesky english literature degree and i'm going to be like a decade older than my classmates.
because apparently fafsa has no problem giving me not only enough to cover the cost for the whole semester, but enough for me to get a student refund, too. even though when i was a "traditional" student i had to fork over thousands to cover what fafsa wouldn't.
the whole "going to college because that's what you do and it should only take four years" thing is utter horseshit. if they'd made it this easy the first time around, it probably wouldn't have taken me over ten years to get my bachelor of science.
tldr: the "traditional" college student image is propaganda and your life can be wonderful and fulfilling without a degree and you can take your time and move at your own pace and doing those things doesn't make you a failure.
it makes you human.
i started back this week and holy shit the DIFFERENCE having your frontal lobe fully cooked makes.
it feels easy in ways it never did before. part of it was because i have more knowledge, sure. but the confidence i have now is the game changer.
the idea that we have to go to college immediately after we graduate high school and then have to finish college in four years is a fucking scam.
it’s a lie our society tells itself. like we all realize the expected-post-high-school timeline is so we can start being laborers as soon as possible. it’s capitalistic propaganda.
