Finished Ancillary Mercy today and I just want to say that I am keeping Seivarden forever. I love her so much. 1000-year-old recently defrosted career popsicle. Professional-grade snob. Her hypercompetence is marred only by the fact that she cannot do anything right. I’ve been relistening to Ancillary Justice again… here’s one of my favorite scenes!!

Breq sighs, still expressionless, and looks over the bridge to find Seivarden clinging to a glass spire. Seivarden, teary: “You were going to hit me!” Breq continues to watch, and Seivarden asks, “Breq– Can you do something?” The glass starts to crack. Breq asks, “Do you trust me?” Seivarden stares, then says, “I– I trust you.”
Breq steps over the ledge, and the panels themselves fracture as the glass breaks. We see Seivarden’s shocked face as Breq grabs onto her and they embrace, and a full page shot them falling into an abyss of blue ice that transitions to a night sky as red glass shatters around them. At the bottom of the deep blue, we see Seivarden’s line: “If that’s what you’re willing to do for someone you hate, what would you do for someone you loved?” End ID]
