Gorgeous art! 🥰 Do you have a reference for the Attolian wedding outfits? They're beautiful 😍
Ahhh thank you nonnie!! Those outfits are my pride and joy, and the wedding portrait was one of my favourite things I've ever worked on!
The main inspo for Gen's outfit was this post, of an exhibit from the National History Museum of Greece. I love drawing Gen in this particular style of coat and sleeve, I think they suit him so well. (Next to it, is a another Greek coat exhibited at the Met.)
For Irene, I mixed and matched a historical (northern?) Greek silhouettes and Art Nouveau draping and embroidery. I love the rounded curve of the bodices/coats, I think they are absolutely lovely. The first pic is from that same collection linked above, the other ones are unfortunately just from pinterest.
Specifically for her wedding outfit, I looked at the (anachronistic but very pretty) draping of this 1900s gown, and the blue velvet and gold embroidery of this suit (bc of course, she would wear Attolian blue&gold for her wedding).
The drawing itself was inspired by the wedding portrait of Tsar Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra.
As per orthodox wedding custom, the bride and groom wear crowns and carry big candles three times around the altar when they're married - I borrowed that idea for their Hephestian wedding, except only Irene has two hands to carry the candle and is staring at what I assume to be the new altar quite ferociously. Gen is just devoted and happy to marry her 🥰🥹
Thank you for the ask anon!! It was a joy to rant about these outfits 🫶
