something that really gets me about fitzchivalry farseer is he is torn between an ordinary life and the noble extraordinary main character life of a traditional fantasy protagonist. his name is keppet. his name is fitzchivalry farseer. he wants to get married and settle down in an ordinary town with an ordinary candlemaker. the great loves of his life are a prophet who’s trying to save the world and a wolf he can telepathically communicate with. he wants to be a scribe. he’s a royal assassin who kills important people to preserve the monarchy. he wants so badly to be ordinary but he cannot be because he is the royal bastard and he is the catalyst and he is responsible for changing the world

the thing about fitz and kettricken is that he could never ever ever see her as a romantic prospect for himself because he respects her too much. she is a) verity’s wife (no matter how long verity has been gone, she will always be Verity’s Wife) which makes her inherently off limits because he respects verity so much, and b) so pure and kind and ethically correct that he can never measure up. she believes so strongly in right and wrong and fitz has done so much wrong. meanwhile kettricken is one of the only characters in the entire series who truly respects fitz. she respects him on a bone deep level because he lives up to her closest held value (that of being sacrifice). so fitz can never conceive of kettricken as a romantic prospect because he finds her so worthy of respect and kettricken is drawn to him because he’s one of the people she respects most in the world. I’m not a fitz x kettricken shipper but damn.
