Rant #6
Hiya guys, today imma be talking about how Miraculous Ladybug did Prem so DIRTY LIKE WHAAATTTT THE HEEELLLL-
So when I saw there was an Indian character in Miraculous, i was SOOO EXCITED that my country was gonna be represented in this show(I love seeing India being shown or mentioned in shows(yay South Asian Representation!!!! I feel so proud whenever my heritage is shown on screen)
Then.THEN.I saw this video.
Bitch WHAT- WHAT THE LITERAL FUCK IS THIS SONG.
This is just all the Indian stereotypes rolled into ONE irritating character-and some other stupid ideas as well(NO,we do NOT address others by "Prince"(their name) or "Princess"(their name)like WHAT THE HELL-)
and the SONG.Good God,the FUCKING SONG.
Here,have some stupid screenshots:
I AM DYING INSIDE FROM THIS SONG WHAT THE HELL(I wanna go back in time to when i DIDNT hear this song)đ¤˘đ¨
NOONE IN INDIA TALKS LIKE PREM DOES (and NO-it aint a French thing coz NONE of the French characters do this(not even the Frenchies of different ethnic backgrounds talk like this-its a Prem thing it seems)
Good Lord,did the writers just look at Bollywood movies and go "Ah,yes,this is India" and do THIS?!or just.look at other shows which did the same stupid shit or smth? (cant they do their basic research-)
India is a vast country with so many ethnic groups, languages,cultures,traditions (and thats not getting into the rest of South Asia(you guys any idea of how rich their respective cultures are?!)-we South Asians are like a totally different world of our own).....and they just pull up "Indian stereotype no.101-Bollywood Balle Balle."đđ
I'd rather they DIDNT introduce any South Asian character in the show if they cant represent our heritage properly.
Dont fucking pretend to be a "diverse" show if you cant represent ANY cultural backgrounds properly at all.
(Edit:Whatâs worse is that Prem,as a character,is an absolute sweetheart.)(ooohhh the wasted potential đ)
I feel ya...I was the same way when they showed Lila finally some (Good) Italian representation....but no
Thatâ reminds me of â

I like the fan art,but things like this leave a sour taste in my mouth...
It's just like The Repunzel series with Flin Rider and Cassandra
I know it's been a minute and I'm not going to watch it again bc I'll roll my eyes too hard if I do BUT I'm still confused by the end scene of Daddycop when that grown ass man in a school uniform threatens to expose Zoe's past to her friends as if she didn't literally introduce herself to everybody with "hi I'm Zoe and I PRETENDED to be a BULLY but I'm ACTUALLY a LOSER whom EVERYBODY at my OLD school BULLIED FIRST"
Yha,that's why it's called salt we already knew that
For those who don't know: Ikumi Nakamura is the woman who was senior artist on Bayonetta, and designed the titular character along with Hideki Kamiya. Their greatest moment of bonding was over their insistence that Bayonetta keep her glasses on at all times. Nakamura cannot go to horny jail. She is the warden.
Happy pride month to her and her exclusively
she made a comic about the experience on twitter
happy pride
An Update from back in October I'm surprised wasn't added to this post. lol
Did she base Lady Bayonet on herself because dam she could be Bayonets twin
I don't remembers whether or not anyone on here has said this before, but when it comes to the the ML writers' decision to subvert Chloe's redemption and becoming more villainous instead, I think I'm more bothered by the execution than the idea itself.
Genuinely I was low-key talking about this earlier with like.
I would've been okay with them making ChloĂŠ a villain if it was actually worked out well.
Like there's two options:
Stick to the idea that she's just an evil asshole. Don't give her any sympathetic moments where she cares for others. Don't give her any tragedy in her family situation to explain why she's like that. Don't show her wanting to be better and that she's doing all this to be loved. Skip over having Hawkmoth pull a campaign of fucking with her head to break her down and just go right for 'he offers out of nowhere she agrees' or even her seeking him out.
Or, the other direction. The tragedy. This is a child stuck in the cycle of abuse and further manipulated by a supervillain and despite wanting to be better and despite the Hero trying to save her, it goes awry because the situation is so borked that despite best efforts it's all too much and she gives up hope.
Gonna be honest I think that's why most people are pissed off
is this a safe space to say that I donât think ChloĂŠ was ever getting a redemption, and that the fans collectively agreed she would, and got mad that it didnât happen
like her behavior is easily identifiable; her bullying stems from her wanting Audrey to notice and love her, and the good she did do came from admiration of Ladybug
she looked up to Ladybug, so its understandable that she would want to appear as good in her eyes
it even couldâve been chalked up to that she hated Hawk Moth more than she did everyone else
but she never really changed as a person outside of her hero work; she had her moments where her âbully-nessâ seeped into her hero work, and moments where her hero-side seeped into her personal life
her losing her miraculous stemmed from her revealing her identity publicly, which was an attempt to gain admiration from the people she didnât receive it from
I personally feel like ChloĂŠâs rise and fall was well written; one of the few good things in her life was being Queen Bee, but due to circumstances she created, that was taken from her
when Hawk Moth then later approached her with the miraculous, she chose to accept it (like sheâs 14, so her doing this is plausible imo; teens arenât always making the best choices)
considering that ZoĂŠâs transformation for Vesperia was storyboarded during S2, it wasnât some random decision to take the miraculous away from ChloĂŠ; they most likely plotted ChloĂŠâs arc and ZoĂŠâs introduction prior to S2 even releasing
with that all being said, they HEAVILY butchered ChloĂŠâs character in S4 and S5
I can understand where the upset surrounding ChloĂŠ comes from, but bottom line is that
1. itâs Astrucâs show. he wrote it intentionally, so ChloĂŠ not living up to the fandomâs expectations is the fandomâs problem, not Astruc or any of the other writers
2. there is always a possibility that ChloĂŠ does change in the future, but the more people complain about it, the less likely thatâll happen
Uh, ChloĂŠ's fall didn't happen due to "circumstances she created". That's the whole problem, and it's exactly why I hate this arc.
In a sane universe, ChloĂŠ would have never stayed on as Queen Bee past that first outing. Full stop. Instead, Marinette, for some bizarre reason that still eludes me, decided it was a good idea to break rule zero and give a Miraculous back to someone who revealed their identity to not only Hawk Moth, but the entire city. Then, when that had the exact outcome any person with two brain cells to rub together would have realized in five seconds flat, of Hawk Moo and Mayura using the knowledge of Queen Bee's identity for their own gain, Marinette panicked and scrambled to remove ChloĂŠ from the team. Except, "It's not safe for you to have the Bee Miraculous because you've revealed your identity" was never going to fly with ChloĂŠ, because Marinette already gave her a Miraculous after she's revealed her identity. All Marinette did was reinforce the idea in ChloĂŠ's head that the rules don't apply to her.
I do agree that ChloĂŠ was never going to be redeemed or stayed on as Queen Bee, but it's not because of anything she did. It's because of two things. One, the temp hero system, i.e. the worst element of the show, that led to pretty much every problem the heroes have been having since S2. I say that in a sane universe ChloĂŠ would have never been given the Bee Miraculous again, but honestly in a sane universe where Team Miraculous has actual operational security, ChloĂŠ would have never been able to randomly get her hands on the Bee Miraculous and mess around with it like she did. It would have been given to her when she actually proved herself worthy of it, or not at all. Two, the fact that the person in charge of handing out Miraculous is Marinette, who has no understanding of how people work.
Oh you know I could never let this go untouched.
Firstly I will say: It is possible she was never meant to he redeemed, and that is not the defense that people think it is. That is an admission of either deep ignorance or repulsive malignance on behalf of the writers.
Next I will say: No plotline for a show with a child audience that involves an abused child being abandoned by the hero to the manipulation of the villains and then *blamed for the results of being manipulated by her abusers* can ever be considered well written. I invite anyone who disagrees to take time and reflect on exactly what that entails. If they still disagree I invite them to never interact with either a child, child media, or any form of child service ever again in their life. Such people are menaces.
Now to tackle the specific flaws with *this* plotline from a purely narrative standpoint even if it were merely a part of a larger arc:
It actually begins in Despair Bear. Prior to this episode ChloĂŠ was the classic mean rich girl archetype. You could do anything with that. This episode reveals her abandonment issues for the first time. With this door open she is initially humanized and one key to why she is the way she is has been provided. This was the first loan on her arc. As I said, prior to this the writers had no narrative debt to pay off. They used this loan to play for emotion so it needs to be repayed later. That is how narrative works.
Style Queen/Queen Wasp are the episodes they truly mortgage the narrative though. They introduce Audrey and she is openly verbally abusive on screen. *At this point I personally feel you are committed, you do not let any child abuse go unpunished* My personal bias aside, it builds on despair bear. We see the damage being caused in realtime. We see she has no protection at home from Andre. This doesn't mean she is suddenly a good guy in the narrative but it means she is now a child in need of help. In a child's show that takes precedence over any other role she may have. Her public display is a clear desperate bid for approval after being dumped on in realtime.
Her train-incident is a 'Gwen Stacy's spine' moment. As in, there is no reason she should not have been able to stop the train. Ladybug and Cat Noir stop the train using a three inch pipe and Cat Noir's staff braced on nothing special. There is zero damage. IE- physics were *only* applied to ChloĂŠ just like they were only ever applied to Gwen Stacy's spine in Spiderman. This undercuts the narrative they wanted to use this act for. If anything having ChloĂŠ engage in some Fury-style antics would have worked better.
The end of Queen Wasp is the point of no return. Having seen firsthand how Audrey treats ChloĂŠ, Marinette still sticks her nose in trying to reconcile them. When Audrey can't even bring herself to say she loves ChloĂŠ without choking on the word, Marinette highlights all of ChloĂŠ's *worst* habits as a means to getting Audrey to finally pay attention to her and see her as someone worthwhile(for five minutes at least) Reuniting a child with an abuser and doing it by highlighting all of the behaviors that are *bad* is a horrible thing to do. *This is not a knock on Marinette.* It is a valid mistake for her to make as a protagonist. However once she *does* the narrative has made the commitment to her learning and correcting her mistake in the future. This never happens in ML.
As Panda stated above, giving Chloe the miraculous again was a dangerous proposition. Marinette had a good intent but it set things up for the villains to attack ChloĂŠ, the person Ladybug had chosen to put in the way. As the protagonist and team leader Marinette has a narrative obligation to anyone she utilizes for her team. That's how leadership works.
Hawkmoth tries to bribe ChloĂŠ and she rejects him. Mayura tries to bribe ChloĂŠ and she rejects *her*. This is more than any other temp hero has been subjected to at this point. The narrative beat is clearly her 'taking her first steps'. There is yet more narrative debt. It is all piling up to a clear arc, deviating from that arc requires paying a wicked exchange rate. It's like borrowing from a bank and trying to pay them back in goats. It might work but you're going to need to make it *really* worth their while.
The first missed beat is that despite it being clear ChloĂŠ is both targeted and does not understand why she needs to be sidelined, Ladybug does nothing. The leader fails to protect one of her team. Again I must state- This is not damning Marinette. It is a mistake a character can make as long as the *narrative* treats it as a mistake and a tragedy (spoiler:it doesn't)
Just for icing, ChloĂŠ has a literal Bee signal. People always lament 'If only there had been some sign!' The girl was flashing it into the sky! They didn't need to show her doong that but they did! Doing so means it's one more thing added to that narrative debt. It's one more excuse the protagonist doesn't have for not acting.
And despite abandoning ChloĂŠ it does nothing to help her or her parents(why would it?) Hawkmoth still targets them. The villains disable the signal. (Sabrina is conveniently absent) We get to see Marinette distracted by her jealousy of Kagami leading to her not transforming back *and then we see her gut instinct being to pick ChloĂŠ before she is shown thinking of Adrien and Kagami together and letting jealousy get in the way again!*
At this point you've put *so* much on Marinette's shoulders. She has made relentless errors as a protagonist and leader. The narrative debt looks like the US debt. This could all lead to a pay off though, it is still feasible!(Spoiler: it doesn't)
With Miracle Box in hand and heroes already distracted while Mayura's moth batters Fu the villains decide to rope ChloĂŠ in because ????????. No seriously, there was zero need for this. They had just windfalled all the miraculous. They could all three whup on Fu, bugger off, and horde the prize. There was zero reason to give a single Miraculous to a child from a rational standpoint. The *only* reason is that Gabe figured he had tormented/isolated the emotionally abused child to a point where she would be a wreck of an akuma.
If this is the narrative reason then it's blatantly acknowledging the abuse setting up for that big payoff mentioned.
But the fight goes down, and we're left with ChloĂŠ desperately trying to reclaim an aluma to have any control left in her life. That fails, she gets a talking to like that will stop Hawkmoth from doing the exact same thing tomorrow. Everyone else gets a happy ending *even the parents whose petty fighting started this finalĂŠ are laughing and lovey and ignoring her completely because haha dumb evil ChloĂŠ*
Zero payoff. Inverse payoff. The opposite of payoff. Laugh at the girl whose torment is the focus of all this while her shitty parents go bone in city hall. Gross.
Nothing about this as it was written can be considered good because it did not pay off.
It *might* have had a chance if they had stuck with the framing *the show itself does* during master Fu's voiceover that says 'Some lose hope' (said while ChloĂŠ us using the bee signal to reach out to Ladybug) but nope. It isn't presented as tragic, it's presented as 'evil bad ChloĂŠ, laugh' in the end.
S4 and onward just keeps this framing. Despite her initially welcoming a sister she had no reason to care about(until she felt ZoĂŠ had betrayed her) despite ChloĂŠ being manipulated by the girl who Manipulates *everyone*(Lila) despite Gabriel and TomoĂŠ manipulating her again, despite ChloĂŠ's gut reaction *still* being to arrest Monarch, Despite her mother never once showing her affection and openly mocking her again, despite her father *blaming everything bad he's done on her*, none of it is framed as anything but 'ChloĂŠ is bad'.
And the end result of a father abandoning the chold he failed to raise properly so he can steal his not-daughter and leaving her with her abusive mother *who is shown cutting in the moment they are alone* is framed as 'justice'.
There is no place outside of the most depraved circles of fiction this can be considered anything like a satisfying narrative arc *especially in a show aimed at children*. 'It's the child's fault the father fucked them up?' seriously? That is 'well written'?
No, no it is not.
This arc is the narrative equivilent of someone borrowing several grand from you over several years, then when time finally comes to pay they say 'What money? And try to gaslight you into thinking the loans never existed and you are a bad person for thinking they did.
This.
What's worse is that at no point in the show anyone recognize that ChloĂŠ is being used and abused by anyone thinking she could be of some use to them, she is manipulated by the villains, Lila, and her parents aren't helping with her issues, but it's ChloĂŠ's fault for being a bad person.
ZoĂŠ was the only one who did try, and even she eventually gave up, though I think that she could only sympathize with her given they had the same mom and thought ChloĂŠ was just wasting her time trying to get their mom's approval which is why she was more tolerant of ChloĂŠ.
Adrien gave up because of (of course) what she did to Marinette a year before, so when he wasn't even around, for something he didn't see, and again was a full year prior and ignoring how she became Queen Bee and tried to do better, the moment he learns of the prank on Marinette and she doesn't apologize for it he cuts ties with her, like seriously? Or he forgot he didn't bother trying anymore after Despair Bear? And also, after witnessing her being treated badly by her mom since her return, and the villains obviously having targeted her when she was known as Queen Bee, and seeing how she now hangs out with Lila, you would think he could connect some dots and see that she keeps getting worse and worse because toxic people keep flocking to her to get what they want from her and then can then discard her once she has run out of being useful to them, but nope.
Same thing with Sabrina, who sees Audrey, Lila and the villains making ChloĂŠ worse, and she decides she has enough of ChloĂŠ's crap and leave her too.
Marinette tried to reassure her once after seeing Lila talk to her, and then never does anything ever again except to complain and fight her, oh she tries to give her a magical charm in Revolution but she's stopped by AndrĂŠ. Yet despite witnessing Hawk Moth and Mayura coming to ChloĂŠ a few times and seeing Monarch still akumatizing her and seeing Lila getting close to her, she doesn't do anything either.
AndrĂŠ's homelife doesn't get better once Audrey comes back and sees her making ChloĂŠ worse and instead of doing anything he just dotes on ZoĂŠ and then exile ChloĂŠ later on with Audrey.
Audrey just cares about ChloĂŠ not being a loser and will crack down for her to get retribution over petty slights but she's not making her any better by cattering to her whims when AndrĂŠ doesn't want to.
Caline Bustier is pretty much hopeless and blind.
Same with the Butler Armand.
Everyone and anyone close to ChloĂŠ do nothing and then are surprised when she ends like that in season 5.
Though then again, given how the writing is, the characters were all let down as much as the writing made them let ChloĂŠ down.
Doesn't mean it's not maddening. All her friends and family members and the heroes were written to let her down in some way while she was abused and emotionally and mentally abused left and right by her parents and the villains, and I'm honestly surprised that she still looks ok in season 6 when her last scene in season 5 was Azula's level of breakdown, minus the fire.
Like look, I know the characters aren't privy to what we the audience sees, but still, like, it's like they barely tried there.
So, like, well, yeah, her not getting a redemption in those conditions seemed to be written in the sky itself, but the entire execution is just so infuriating to watch and it's like it's just made to be all her fault only and only her that you cannot stomach and accept it because it was just so insulting how poorly done it was made narratively.
The whole thing was so passive about her being a villain and shoved down our throats while anyone close to her/caring about her/the freaking heroes were just kind of there watching as she crashed and burn without any support or help whatsoever and yet it's treated as the obvious outcome by someone who's literally left on her own to try to be a better person while constantly be drown by toxic influence, parents and villains only interested in manipulating her for their own selfish gains and she's just a pawn in the grand scheme of things and not a single character cares or bother to see it that way much for too long before they watch her go to London forever with her abusive mom.
i do want to acknowledge all these reblogs: yâall are 100% correct about the writers neglecting the fact that ChloĂŠ was a victim of emotional abuse.
the writing was very poor on that part, but imo, because of that there wasnât a great way to justify ChloĂŠ staying a hero. the writing had already solidified her as a âbully who can never be goodâ, so unless some miracle happens in the future seasons, ChloĂŠ is most likely going to stay that way
while I donât like how she was written, the writers did make that choice, regardless of how crappy the quality was
hopefully with how deep and serious S6 is (and assuming Queen of the Dreadzone is about/involves ChloĂŠ), theyâll actually choose to discuss emotional abuse in a genuine light, and not make it some sort of âoh thatâs why sheâs bad but weâre not elaborating on how much more complicated it isâ
Honestly I hope they don't bring Chloe back...this is waaaay past beating a dead horse đ´...or even a dead corpse...we ain't really pissed at Chloe not getting a redemption arc...were pissed she's NOT getting an arc

not to sound like a crazy sjw but parents putting little girls in frilly dresses/lavish clothes and telling them not to run, climb, play in dirt, etc lest they ruin their outfits or somebody look up their skirts is one of the most direct ways we as a society teach girls that they are only ornamental and cut their childhoods short
Cut it shot... It makes it non existent

Imagine if Marinette had confronted Ms.Bustier like this?
âOkay thatâs it!â Marinette yelled angrily. âYou canât treat this like preschool! Chloe screwed with me and instead of punishing her youâre telling me to forgive her!?â
Ms. Bustier backed away as she heard that. âI-â
âYouâre aweful! Youâre spineless and-â
âOh screw it youâre right!â Ms.Bustierâs breakdown made Marinette pause and watch the teacher fall to her knees. âWhen I was a kid I was bullied, and I now Iâm just trying to help every kid, but itâs fucking pointless!!â
Marinette frowned. âWell I didnât say that.â
âIâm a glorified kindergarten teacher! I just wanted everyone to get along and I absolutely failed in trying to help Chloe be better like an idiot!â
âWell trying to help her isnât bad, you just needed to go about it better.â
âAnd those stupid compliments and yoga poses and meditation bullshit! I thought I could actually make school less stressful!?â
Marinette titled her head. âWell I didnât hate all of that. It actually helped a good bit-â
The teacher snapped her head up as an akuma flew into her lipstick. âScrew it!! Thereâs only one way to make everyone love each other! And thatâs to force it!!â
Marinette paled and ran away. Okay⌠that could have gone betterâŚ
ââ-
âIâm a failure⌠and a hypocriteâŚâ Ms.Bustier was now laying on the floor of the Eiffel Tower. She seemed so⌠spent. ââŚWhat type of teacher am I?â
Ladybug frowned and sat down next to her. âMarinette told me about what happened when I went to get her to safety.â
âIâve been failing my students. I just wanted to make a place where no one would be bullied.â
ââŚYou had the right idea. And you had some good activities for the class to do, especially with the akumas. You just need a bit of a balance.â
ââ
Later, Chloe gave a present to Ms. Bustier. And while it was appreciatedâŚ
âChloe. Your gift is lovely. But you still need to apologize Marinette. Youâll have to pay for the gift you ruined, and since Iâm not familiar about design, Marinette will have to decide how much money you owe her.â
Everyone in the class instantly knew what that meant.
Chloe had to essentially give Marinette a blank check.
Marinette grinned as Chloe paled.
Best teacher ever.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now imagine if Chloe called out Marinette
Chloe!:Bitch I'm not apologizing to that walking hypocrite...I forgot your birthday Yes...well it was more like I forgot the day,but anyway she decided to poke the BEAR đť so to speak and I retaliated...was what I did wrong yes but I won't apologize for it
What Chloe did was wrong on so many levels but Marinette ain't no saint eather
Miraculous Ladybug S3 | Ep 11 | Mayura trying to convince Queen Bee (Chloe)
Just rewatched miraculer and holy shits its just a chlobrina episode
"Oh yeah my friend I used to play superheroes with doesnt wanna play with me anymore so Im going to turn into a supervillain to steal the superheroes powers and give it to her so we can play together again"
Also:
Said playing superheroes
(Also also this episode straight up has Chloe call Sabrina her friend so I dont wanna hear any of that "Chloe never cared about Sabrina" Bullshit they've been pushing)
Still so mad this was taken because of a petty man child
Rome wasn't built in a day. you know what was built in a day? One Day Built town. famously so, that's why people call it one day built town. you don't need to hold yourself to that high of a standard though. whenever possible, take things at your favorite pace
also, it was called one day built town because it was a pretty miraculous event. if rome was built in a day they probably would have called it one day built town
Not town but city
I was rewatching Lady WiFi and man I'm surprised Chloe didn't get Akumatized or commit murder the principal was being a Dick and only started doing something when Chloe threatened him with her father...I do think her punishment was a little excessive (but it's Alya she's not going to learn otherwise) The principal also didn't call Alya's mom or dad (if anything Alya should have gone after the principal)
Chloe had ever right to be pissed
Alya should know better (Don't do the crime if you can't do the time)
