They’re dressed in soft casual clothes, sleeping like the dead and wrapped around each other like vines and Ilya’s hand is in Shane’s hair and Shane looks so so comfortable and relaxed

What he sees makes him sigh. "They came to check the fuse box and immediately got distracted rummaging through the cupboards," he gripes. He puts his back against the wall, out of sight from those inside. "These idiots aren't going to make for very good prey at all. Would you go kill them faster, please."

Leaning on the wall beside him, Jae is holding up a pocket mirror and putting on a fresh layer of lipstick. "Yeah, one sec."

Andy uses a gadget to identify the man- it turns out his name is Lykon. The gadget also gives Andy a lot more information: like his job, hobbies, personality, that he volunteered at an animal shelter- shit that a regular electronic device shouldn’t be able to know. The squad all agree that Lykon seems like a good guy, a “good candidate.”

Booker wears the gauntlet, squats down on the blood-stained concrete and holds the man’s head and seems to do something that makes him look tired, and Andy is ready to catch him when he almost falls over. Then Lykon fucking comes back to life, panicked and gasping, and one of the other men is by his side to gently support him and calm him down.

Nile can’t stifle her gasp, and she’s pretty sure that the woman looks in her direction but she thinks she managed to hide in time so that the mysterious Andy doesn’t see her.

Fast forward many years later. Obsessed with this “Old Guard,” but unable to find any information about it, she has joined the CPD. It is tragic how many murders there are in Chicago, and she drags her partner Dizzy to as many crime scenes as she can. Finally there is one where the usual process is halted and the police are ordered to keep the scene secure but clear the area- some Feds or something are taking over.

The car pulls up. Nile recognizes all the people who get out: Andy, Booker, the two other men... and Lykon. Nile knows that Lykon is still legally dead, his death date the night of his murder. Nile had been to his grave.
