I went this evening to see les mis in the west end and it was the debut day for Ben Nicholas as enjolras and OH MY GOD THE ENJOLTAIRE CONTENT HE GAVE US ALONGSIDE WILLIAM PENNINGTON

Just to mark the highlights:

After grantaire’s solo in drink with me, enjolras went to him and THEY WENT FULL BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN STYLE LIKE THIS

THEIR FOREHEADS WERE TOUCHING AND THEY WERE HOLDING EACH OTHER SO CLOSE I WAS SCREAMING. Then grantaire left and enjolras stood there lingering for a few seconds.

THEN

In the final battle they both ran into each other’s arms.

AND THEY STOOD THERE. IT WAS SO DESPERATE, OML, I WAS CRYING SO BAD ALREADY AND THIS KILLED ME

In conclusion, if you have the chance, GO SEE THEM, Ben was AMAZING as enjolras, I hope he gets to do it more often because he was THAT awesome

And pls recommend me some enjoltaire fics because I now find myself in a desperate NEED.

yes, not all of it, but, still, a noticeable amount of older polyester was...nicer.

yeah, it would still get picks and hold on to every bit of underarm odor, and that's on top of no-one knowing about microplastic shedding

but a 1950s Wash'n'Wear shirt, or 1970s double knit pantsuit, or 1980s neon sweatshirt, or a 1990s slinky knit or crushed velour mock turtleneck...so many of them would have been significantly higher quality than the fast fashion of today.

i work in historical costume. i work in a big-ass warehouse, with hundreds of thousands articles of clothing dating back over 100 years (for original pieces).

the BLINDING difference in clothing quality between even the 1990s and the mid-2000s...not even going in to the decline in quality of clothing made in natural fibers (jeans with elastane, i'm looking at you), I've got faux-leather trousers from 1980s that are in near-mint condition, even after being hired and worn repeatedly for the past 40 years. we get donations of clothing that shows and films have bought online for contemporary shows that are disintegrating after being used on one show, for like....10 days, max.

don't even get me started on the seam allowances we used to get in clothes, because the assumption was you'd alter it at some point...

they hate you. they hate the planet. they have drip fed you worse and worse quality clothing until you don't even realize you're being sold Garbage

More of the Les Mis OBC, I believe most of these are from ‘85-‘87. There’s something I love so much about the very beginnings of this show. The incredibly 80’s hair, the insane stage makeup they had Terrence Mann in, the camp of it all that just feels like something you don’t get today. It’s also fascinating to look at these photos and see how much has changed, but also how much has stayed the same about this show. Enjolras’ iconic red and gold vest, Éponine’s costume that has not changed since Victor Hugo described it in the book almost 200 years ago, Gavroche’s silly little hat. I also really love Cosette’s dress in these photos, I wish we got to see this costume design more often for her. Also huge shoutout to the og staging of One Day More, wherein the Thenardiers would pop out of the sewers to sing their lines.
