“it’s also good to learn that life isn’t fair!” i don’t WANT children to accept unreasonable discipline from adults!! i don’t WANT children to expect the adults in their lives to punish at random and ignore their explanations!! the world isn’t fair but we could sure work to make it fairer
(popular leftist voice) these right wingers are so mad because they get no women. if you are a Good Person a woman will appear and suck your dick.
(popular leftist voice) these right wingers are all sooo poorrrr and stupid. They are stupid because they are poorrrr, racism would never exist in my suburban area
Popular leftist voice: these right wingers must have brain damage. They must be bigots because they are literally reta suffering from blsck mold, or brain damage.
(popular leftist voice) these right-wingers are bad people because they’re ugly. You can tell they’re bad because they’re so old and fat and disfigured and it’s okay to make fun of them for that because they deserve it.

“Zooble is way better trans rep than Jax”
Looks inside:
Of the two Zooble is the most *agreeable* trans rep because they’re out from the get-go, funny, and are also largely considered morally acceptable in their actions.
Anyone else hella underwhelmed by the HHN Hollywood announcements at Midsummer Scream, or is it just me? Like… only 2 originals in the entire lineup? An identical IP collection to Orlando, just with a house and Terror Tram instead of a Scare Zone (one of which is just recycled from a past season)? Barely any presence of the very few Hollywood Icons on an anniversary year? The only thing I find vaguely interesting is Nikki being there, but even then, I can’t help but think about the context of that movie and it feels kinda tone-deaf…
…so yeah, HHN Orlando solos.
i like when a piece of media says that an all-powerful character "sees humans as insects" because that really could mean a lot of things. maybe they view us as insignifigant and will squish us under their boot. maybe theyre actually studying and cataloguing us for their thesis paper. maybe theyre campaigning for human protection because we're an important part of their ecosystem. maybe they see a human and go "ew ew ewwwwww someone get the cup and get that FREAK out of my house." .
One of the most important things I learned in my Language and the Law class is that law enforcement will intentionally misinterpret every type of statement asking for a lawyer as not asking for a lawyer. Even directly saying it like this “I will not speak to you without a lawyer” can be taken as a simple statement of fact rather than a request for a lawyer. You literally have to state “I am now invoking my right to a lawyer” and every time they try to proceed with an interrogation you have to answer every question with “I am invoking my right to have a lawyer present”. You can’t just tell them you won’t talk without a lawyer or that you want a lawyer. You have to state that you are invoking your rights. Otherwise they could just say “well they just said they wouldn’t speak without a lawyer present. That’s not invoking their rights to a lawyer. It’s just stating a fact.” even just stating your right to a lawyer doesn’t count!
PLEASE share this addition. I am a lawyer who works in criminal defense, and this is one of the most avoidable things that people consistently get wrong about the Miranda rights.
Here are some more “ambiguous” phrases which courts have found DO NOT invoke your right to a lawyer:
“Maybe I should speak to my lawyer first.”
“I might like a lawyer.”
“I think I should have a lawyer present for this.”
“Could I speak to my lawyer first?”
“How long until my lawyer gets here?”
And perhaps most egregiously – “Get me a lawyer, dawg – ‘cause this is not what’s up.”
Here are the magic phrases which you need to know if you want to invoke your Miranda rights:
1) “Am I free to leave?”
It’s worth asking this even if the answer is obvious. Even if the officer does not let you leave, by forcing them to admit that you are not free to leave, you are creating a record which your attorney can use to prove that you were in custody. Miranda rights only apply if the interrogation is custodial, meaning that police officers will frequently claim that their suspects were “not in custody” to get around their Miranda rights.
2) “I am invoking my right to remain silent.”
Simply staying silent will not invoke your right to remain silent. As absurd as this is, you must explicitly say that you are invoking your right to remain silent in order to invoke that right.
3) “I am invoking my right to an attorney.”
As stated above, you must be not only clear and unambiguous, but clear and legally unambiguous. Don’t get cute. Don’t get sassy. And on the flip side, don’t get intimidated and use verbal ticks to minimize your request. Say the line with those words exactly – say it clearly, and say it once, and then say nothing else.
Because even after you’ve done all this, the police can still try to get you to talk. They’re not supposed to interrogate you, but they’re allowed to make casual conversation, and if that conversation just happens to circle back around to the thing they wanted to question you about, well, that’s really your fault for talking after you said you wouldn’t, isn’t it? Can’t possibly fault the poor officers when you initiated – if you really wanted to have your rights respected, you wouldn’t have talked to them in the first place.
The police know this, and they will mercilessly exploit this loophole. So, once you’ve successfully invoked your Miranda rights, any and all conversation you have with police officers will put those rights back into jeopardy.
Putting it all together:
Ask: “Am I free to leave?”
If they say no, say: “I am invoking my right to remain silent and I am invoking my right to an attorney.”
And then shut up and do not say a single thing to them for any reason whatsoever until you have actually spoken to an attorney. Yes, even if it takes hours. Yes, even if they start talking to you about something else.
Finally, a very important disclaimer:
I may be a lawyer, but I’m not your lawyer, and I cannot guarantee that what I’ve just laid out here will always work for every situation. We didn’t get to this bizarre and absurd place overnight – we built this ridiculous system piecemeal, by deciding on a case-by-case basis that certain phrases were “too ambiguous” or certain types of questioning weren’t actually questioning at all. The law is still in flux, and is still fundamentally out to get you, and willing to bend plain meaning beyond all recognition to do it. Even if you invoke your rights perfectly, exactly as I have specified above, there’s a chance that your invocation of rights will be disqualified on some new technicality that no one’s even thought of yet – and that’s precisely the problem.
Watch this video: “Don’t Talk To The Police”
I am begging my followers to please watch this video from start to finish. I know it’s long, but it is incredibly valuable information that everyone needs to know, especially if you’re involved in any form of activism.
Every single cop lies. Every single cop lies and manipulates and twists the situation around to get a confession. Even when they know that the person is innocent, even when they know that what they have isn’t enough to convict someone, even when they know that that confession has been made under duress or manipulation. All they care about is getting anything to put someone behind bars.
It doesn’t matter how eloquent or innocent or experienced you are. Do not talk to cops.
The video is a doozy. Aside from all the good advice, the racist dog whistling from the officer really jumps out. In fact, his whole segment was pretty effective to drive home the point that officers are literally trained to manipulate you and fuck you over. He does say he doesn’t “try” to put innocent people in prison, but he never says he tries to keep them out either. He also explicitly states that he destroys material that could be helpful to you.
In short, DO NOT TALK TO COPS.
Cops are only your friends if you have money to back you and maybe not even then. They work for a system that has been bent and twisted to serve that only betters themselves than aid those most in need. Then question why so much distrust to thrown around when they just further sow seeds in the next generation. There are good cops drowning and pushed aside cause connections mean more actual moral ethics. Lawyers are hardly any better, but in order to survive you have to use the system against itself.
Is Jax good transfem representation? I can't say that for sure since I’m cisgender myself. It was made by a trans woman tho, and that's something to take into account.
But the argument that it’s poor representation because it reinforces a negative stereotype about trans women confuses me, since all of Jax's actions pre-Abstraction take place before any sort of significant transition, and because of his repression, not her transness.
If anything, that actually works in favor of both the narrative and the representation IMO, as it shows what you can become when you don't open up or accept yourself.
I feel kinda rude/presumptuous/generally bad saying this, but I feel like a lot of this discourse is being perpetuated by people who either:
A) aren’t transgender and really shouldn’t be speaking on our behalf about what is and isn’t “bad rep”
B) are transgender but were privileged enough to not have to deal with the level of shame, fear, and repression depicted in Jax’s arc
I grew up in a religious, wealthy, conservative area where people cared a lot about keeping up appearances and having a “weird kid” could ruin your reputation. Me and about 6 of my friends at the time were closeted (binary trans and nonbinary) and istg we went through this exact scenario: we were forced to stay in the closet and keep our defenses up, and being repressed for that long with that level of stigma piled on from all directions genuinely does fuck up your mind. It puts you on edge. It makes you start distrusting yourself and your own identity. It makes you live a double life out of desperation to the point where you’re scared that any given person existing in your space will clock you and use that to make your life a living hell. That shit can destroy you, and it almost destroyed me.
I wouldn’t wish my past experiences on anybody and I’m genuinely happy that there are people out there who live in safe enough environments where they don’t have to worry about these things, but Jax’s character arc as it’s written is not a happy one. It was written to depict a very real struggle that a lot of us have lived through and how easily that level of trauma can cut a life short, and I’m honestly unsettled by the amount of people who are seemingly crying “bad-faith representation” over being confronted with a view of the trans experience that isn’t happy, polished, or sanitized.
She literally commits suicide. She didn’t get a happy ending or a breakthrough or a resolution in that universe. Her repression and buried trauma caused her to commit fucking suicide. If that’s not clicking, I don’t know what to tell you.

This is a really good thread.
#people want to treat their own bad behavior as if it was as inevitable as the weather #and then when the people they're assholes to are like 'actually fuck you' and stand up for themselves #they get all pearl clutchy about how they have a ~right to express themselves~ and how other people ~just can't handle the truth~ #toddlers (via @shesgonnachangetheworld)
like the return of the r slur and horrible fatphobia and gay jokes and the misogyny oh my fucking god can we talk about the misogyny. we have culturally regressed to the eary 2010s but when you try to call people out they’re liek ohhh it’s just a joke 😂. i’m sorry but i don’t want to hear jokes about pedophilia or about rape or about racism that is not funny and it never will be. everything is ironic and if you get offended it’s cuz you’re a crazy femnazi who cares too much. because it’s apparently uncool to take anything serious or do anything with actual sincerity anymore
i think some people are defending fortnitmares a little too hard like fortnite and universal are corporations and this is at least 55% a marketing move on both their ends you don’t need to go to war for this but people saying hhn is ruined are also being too dramatic. we’re getting a meetz meats food booth that’s the most diabolical theme for a food booth are you joking. like no hhn has not gone soft they’re going to strongly imply that you are eating human meat and youre going to LIKE IT
That’s not even getting into this year’s originals too, like there’s some very dark shit involved- “ZOMG UNIVERSAL IS BABIFYING THE EVENT!!! THEY’VE GONE SOFT!!!!! Now excuse me while I walk through this haunt where half the world’s population got tricked into signing up to be put to sleep for thousands of years and all got their insides hollowed out and welded into robots. Let me walk through this haunt where all the animals are extinct and people can only survive by eating each other. Let me walk th”

Y’all, this is a complete shot in the dark, but would anyone happen to know the name or producer of that one EDM track used in Exterminatorz (specifically noticeable during the motel scene)? I’ve only been able to find one audio rip for that Terror Tram at all and it appears to be the queue music, so I’m still looking :’D
We have got to stop framing our oppression in ways that promote the idea that other people cannot relate to our struggles. Not only does it isolate comrades in the struggle, it actively diminishes recognition of other struggles--often including those even more horrific than what we are at risk of. And this happens especially between Gay and Black struggles.
"when have straight people ever had to check what states were safe for them?" Sundown towns are still a thing. Starlight tours. What states have abortion access? What states have open carry? What states have stand your ground? What states have 3-strike rules? Women, people of color, disabled people, immigrants, and more have had to be abundantly cautious where they travel to. Straight trans people have much more travel risk right now than gay cis people.
It's a new iteration of the same tired question: "imagine if straight people weren't allowed to marry" interracial marriage in the US is younger than my parents. We disgrace people of color by forgetting their history and contemporary struggles, and we abandon queer people of color, Black queer people, by segmenting their overlapping fights.
As lovelyshananigans says, "intersectionality, babes"
