The reason I hate the āShakespeare didnāt actually write Shakespeareā theories so much is they seem to be inherently rooted in taking his works away from ordinary people. āThe son of a glovemaker could never have written these plays! Surely only an Aristocratic Intellectual, like the Earl of Oxford, could be responsible!āĀ
Honestly fuck off. Shakespeare was one of us. His plays were written for the masses. He was an ordinary man who captured the voice of the people and the depths of their emotions. We credit Shakespeare with making up words and phrases, but whoās to say he wasnāt writing down what he heard on the streets?Ā "But something as complex as Hamlet could never have been written by Shakespeare! It must have been the work of a nobleman!ā Well guess what, not only did he write it, but he wrote it because thatās what his audience liked. The hordes of ordinary people consumed his deeply philosophical play about a young man musing over life and death and sin and they LOVED it.Ā
Shakespeare was a crowd-pleaser and an entertainer, and reason his work is so beautiful and poetic and philosophical (as well as bloody and sexual!) is because he was responding to popular demand. Most people attending the theatre were illiterate; they consumed literature by listening, and this is one of the reasons why playwrights utilised iambic pentameter and rhyming schemes. Their dialogue is poetry, and itās beautiful to listen to. The first time Romeo and Juliet meet, their shared dialogue creates a sonnet. Imagine a commoner sitting in the crowd listening to that, and it hits him like an arrow, wow, listen to the way these characters speak,Ā this is love at first sight.Ā
Shakespeare was an ordinary man, and the beauty and complexity of his works were fuelled largely by the appetite of ordinary people. Although plays could be written and performed for the aristocracy, it was the hordes at the theatres that one had to keep happy. ThisĀ modern obsession with putting him on a pedestal and trying to make him high culture or inaccessible to ordinary people is just gross. This upstart crow will always be one of us, and his work will always be for us.
Just to add on a bit, I was an English major, and I remember once in college, my linguist professor was discussing Shakespeare, and how he created new words. She said that linguists have studied the languages of the 14th, 15th, and 16th centuries, and theyāve basically come to the conclusion that Shakespeare didnāt invent these new words, at all. They theorize that he actually picked up these words from young women who would use them, as slang speech. Slang speech in these centuries can be found in letters young women wrote to each other, with the slang coming from them shortening words, in order to write faster. Of course, womenās ways of talking have constantly been looked down upon throughout society, but hereās an article from Smithsonian, discussing the fact that young women throughout history have shaped language, and continue to do so. They say that what holds men back (men trail by about a generation) is the fact that they make fun of the way in which women talk.

Aside from the blatant classism a lot of āevidenceā in the anti-Stratfordian camp is just plain flimsy at best. āWell how could a commoner without a formal education at a big fancy college know about all these subjects like mythology, geography and history?ā and the answer is he didnāt. Shakespeare didnāt give a damn about whether Bohemia had a coastline or if Vestal virgins were basically the same as nuns and then thereās the laundry list of artistic license he took with historical plays like Macbeth and Richard III.
And another one, which is my favorite, is the claim that he ācouldnāt even spell his own name,ā because not once did he ever spell out his name in full on a legal document. Surely a man who wrote hundreds of sonnets and plays didnāt have a grasp of how to spell his own fucking name, Iām sure the problem had nothing to do with it being a long-ass name with a fuckton of letters he couldnāt be assed to write out every single letter every time he had to sign something!
But yeah the entire āShakespeare wasnāt realā conspiracy theory is just the English literature version of the Flat Earth Society when you actually look into their reasoning and it goes from being insulting to hilarious real fast.
āhe ācouldnāt even spell his own name,āā ooooh that rankles
At the time of Shakespeare the idea of a ācorrectā spelling for words didnāt even really exist. The idea of a monolingual english dictionary (ie not for translating english to latin) didnāt even really occur until Robert Cawdrey published his Tabel Alphabeticall, or itās full title:
A table alphabeticall conteyning and teaching the true writing, and understanding of hard vsuall English wordes, borrowed from the Hebrew, Greeke, Latine, or French, &c. With the interpretation thereof by plaine English words, gathered for the benefit & helpe of ladies, gentlewomen, or any other unskilfull persons. Whereby they may the more easilie and better vnderstand many hard English wordes, vvhich they shall heare or read in scriptures, sermons, or elswhere, and also be made able to vse the same aptly themselues.
Which was published in 1604 at least 12 years after Shakespeares plays were first being staged. And as you might guess from that title, the idea of there being a ācorrectā spelling of any given word had not come into vogue yet.
Yes, thatās correct, the idea that there is only one correct way to spell a word is a comparatively new invention that didnāt arise until Elisha Coles published HIS dictionary in 1676, 60 years after Shakespeares death. This is because previous dictionaries like Cawdreyās were only designed to explain the meaning of rare and difficult words, whereas Colesās dictionary was the first attempt at a truly comprehensive dictionary, which led to a formalising of the spelling of the words contained within.
Shakespeare literally couldnāt spell his name wrong, because during his lifetime there was no such thing as an incorrect spelling.
Things are heating up in the Shakespeare fandom
How did you know you use Te instead of Ti? I'm still getting confused with the two thinking types and how they really manifest in us.
easy
can you do two simple things simultanously? like preparing a meal in a timely manner while -also- having a conversation and not being silent -> Te
are you the worst at multitasking? -> Ti
did the first point make you think āwell, what does exactly count as ātwo thingsā? is ābreathingā a thing? is āhaving my eyes openā a thing? if you consider thā¦ā -> Ti and also you need to be punched
Literally, I canāt say three things in a row to Ti users because they can only attend to the last one or the most outstanding one and forget about the rest. Itās so tiring but my strategy is saying one thing at once and then wait. Then say the second. And so on.Ā
Te: powerful, sexy, component
Ti: just so fjucking dumb
Whoops. Hereās the full video.
I hate myself for watching the whole thing.. Twice

I had this thought about modern magic
So like you know how modern age confrontation/war has changed from the ancient and medieval ages? What if magic changed like that too? Like in the ancient time period people would make deliberate, often religious started, attacks or wars that would include one or two battles, a siege, and then the end. What if magic was long and droning and chants and rituals? Then in the medieval/fantasy era thereās the knights and peasants who waged claims of honor and lands and titles. What if magic was the contractual spells and magic sword heroes? Then you have the eras of gunpowder, magic could have been very scientific and rational/age of enlightenment where magic was focused on cheap infusions into rifles or cannons or wards for officers or mage corps firing volleys of blasts or shielding regiments. In WW1/WW2 maybe magic was evolving, more rapid fire and focused on quick short violent engagements. But what about now? When people disguise themselves to blow up a plane or governments monitor their targets from space and send in their special black ops? What if magic now is much more subtle? All about misdirection and sapping your opponentās spell before a deadly shot or two to finish them off? Idk, but itās something to think about.

The Types as things under the sea
ENFJ - Ā Sea horse. Ā Mates for life, meets their partner first thing in every morning to engage in an elaborate courtship display.
INFJ ā Giant Squid. Ā Lives so far down in the depths of the sea that little is known about them.
ESTP - Sea lion. Ā Athletic, social, vocal. Entertaining to watch but very rowdy. Definitely not safe.
ISTP - Killer Whale. Photogenic, popular, and and a notoriously skillful predator.
ENFP ā Dolphin. Ā Friendly and intelligent, uses a nerdy sonar system to hunt and communicate. Ā
INFP - Star Fish. Ā Not actually a fish. Ā Appears floppy and delicate but has suspiciously effective powers of regeneration. Ā
ESTJ Ā - Lobster. Very fiesty. Looks interesting until you try to catch one.
ISTJ ā Sea turtle. Returns to the same beach where they were hatched to continue the cycle and lay their eggs. Ā Lives forever.
ESFP - Beluga whale. Ā Looks friendly and dorky without even trying. Ā A very social animal, uses a wide variety of sounds to communicate.
ISFP - Manatee. Calm, gentle herbivores that have no known natural enemies. Looks cuddly.
ENTP ā Octopus. Ā A wacky shape-changer with extravagant style and surprise! Squirts ink in your face as self-defense. Ā Didnāt see that one coming, did you?
INTP - Sea Urchin. Ā Slow loner with a VERY effective weapons system. Proceed with caution.
ESFJ - Spanish dancer. Most graceful, flamboyant creature in the sea. Ā Performing for you live 24/7.
ISFJ ā Tuna. A schooling fish thatās happiest when theyāre blending in. Gets separation anxiety when away from their group for too long. Ā
ENTJ ā Great white shark. Ā Largest predatory predatory fish in the sea. Misunderstood as a mindless man-eater, is actually picky about what it eats and has a detailed memory.
INTJ ā Portuguese manāo war. Ā Passive floating balloon thatās deadly if trifled with.
My way of dealing with awkward eye contact is to violently stare the other persons down so they don't do it again
How this Enneagram 8 categorizes people.
Soooooo since it's possible some may be offended by this post, I wanna make something clear before I get into it. People matter and have intrinsic value just for being who they are! This system is simply the basis for how I choose to prioritize my time in relationships with people. I use it to screen my social surroundings to determine how much I choose to invest myself in the people around me. Itās true that my 8 mindset, combined with my high Ti which adores systems, often views people as pieces of a machine and evaluates who has what power in what situations. Ā However, that doesn't mean I let that define how I interact with people. Every weakness is a strength taken to far, and I recognize that myself and other 8's need to remember that while this method of prioritizing people is useful, we still need to treat other humans with respect, regardless of how they fall in our priorities.
With that said, here are the categories people tend to fall into in my mind:
Those to be Respected: These individuals have either considerable skill/knowledge and use it effectively, or they have earned my respect by demonstrating they are competent and considerate of other when in positions of authority. Treat these people genuinely and with respect. They can be useful allies and often have talents you yourself don't possess.
Those to be Opposed: These individuals often have considerable skill/knowledge along with authority/power but use these talents in a way that is harmful to others and/or for their own personal gain. The key here is that they cause harm to others or toĀ myself. However, they must pose some kind of threat or hold power to be in this category, otherwise, they end up in the next category (those to be controlled). This is a situation in which an 8 thrives; we like to make a difference by opposing injustice. Ā Be measured in your opposition, fellow 8s. Remember that you don't always need to take drastic measures to be effective. Ā Also, remember you are the better person here, and act accordingly.
Those to be Controlled: These are either potentially dangerous individuals we need to assert dominance over, or they are useful and can be "recruited" to your cause. Ā This is a nicer version of direct control, but it's still the same idea. The majority of people we encounter fall in this or the next category (Those to be Ignored). Treat these people with caution. They are not likely dangerousĀ but donāt completely write them off because they can be useful.
Those to be Ignored: Individuals fall into this category for three reasons: the first is that simply they have nothing of value to offer or hold no power. Ā The second is that they arenāt hostile to people. The third is that we do not interact enough and I donāt have enough interaction to determine how to interact with them. Many people I encounter fall into this category. Treat these people with consideration, but don't invest too heavily in them. They could grow into useful people if you help them along the way.
Those to be Despised: As you can tell, people this category arouse strong feelings of disdain for an 8. Ā They could also fall into Those to be Opposed or Those to be Ignored, but they deserve their own category. These people likely donāt hold much power or authorityĀ but are cruel to those around them nonetheless. They are selfish, rude, and disregard others, seeking only their own gratification. Or worse, they have potential but are squandering their talents on trivial pursuits. We treat these people with distance. They are not worth your time.
Those to be Friends: On a much more positive note, this category includes individuals who we simply enjoy. Often they have some positive talents, knowledge, or hold a position of authority, but they don't have to in order to feel validated as a person. They are just people we have observed to be safe, meaning that theyāre not a threat to us or others (very important), and we enjoy being around them. They are often not used for any purpose aside from enjoyable friendships. Ā Appreciate these people. Friendships are one of life's great joys and as an 8 it can be very useful to have people by your side you trust.
Those to be Protected: This is the core of who an 8 is. There will be some people who are being oppressed or controlled by Those we Oppose or Despise. Individuals in this category are to be protected from those that are harming them in anyway we can. They are not nearly as important as Those we Treasure but we do feel motivated by our anger at how they are treated to keep these people safe or improve their lives.
Those to be Treasured: Having people who fall into this category is very rare for an 8. Ā I only have four or so individuals who fall in it. These are people that the 8 protectors will go to the ends of the earth and burn cities for. These are the people who you deeply trust above all others. Treasure these people. They are true wonders in your life and you won't find many of them.
One more note: I donāt know if this is how all 8 types view or prioritize the people in their life; itās based on my own experience and is likely heavily influenced by Ti-Fe reasoning (as an ENTP). Ā However, Iām curious to see if this rings true for other 8s out there, and hope this may be enlightening for those of you who may not be a type 8 yourself but have a type 8 individual in your life. Ā

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
other great things about being a smart kid: anytime you ever struggle with anything your parent/teacher/authority figureās reaction is an irritated āyouāre smart! i know you can get this!ā
YES. THANK YOU. THE ONLY REASON IāM NOT INSTANTANEOUSLY AN EXPERT IS THAT I WANT TO MAKE IT SPECIFICALLY HARDER ON YOU. AND MYSELF! I LOVE MUTUAL AGONY AND TORTURE. IT BRINGS ME JOY TO FRUSTRATE VENGEFUL ADULTS.
I was thinking about this recently because as glad as I am that I wasnāt put down, I donāt like this being the reaction every time I go for help.
āIām struggling with this, help!ā
āNo itās easy! Youre capable! Youāre just not trying hard enough!ā *doesnt help or give advice* *lets person take full consequences of subsequent failure or even punishes them for it*

c) on that note, difficulty accepting genuine encouragement because it feels like a threat
