Happy Barricade Day! After all, June 6th is the day they made their sacrifice, so Iâm not late, right?
The inspiration for this drawing came from the Toledo Cathedralâthe sense of the heavens opening up, which also corresponds to the final song of Les MisĂŠrables, "Epilogue."
In the painting, I wanted to depict the scene Jean Valjean vaguely sees as he passes away. Fantine takes his hand, leading him toward heaven, while the Bishop stands beside him, illuminating the path behind. And in the background are those who fell during the battle.
The upward composition gives the feeling that their voices fade into the "valley of the light," reflecting their destiny of "climbing to the light." I wanted the darker surroundings to contrast with the light of heaven, showing that they now dwell in that place beyondâechoing the lyric, "We will live again in freedom in the garden of the Lord."
Jehan loves playing the flute, so perhaps the "distant drums" are sounds he conjures.
Behind Valjean, there is a mural of womenâintended to represent the "lovely ladies," along with little Gavroche and his sister Ăponine above. These figures embody the suffering people of the earth, much like the lyrics of "Wretched of the Earth."
On the heavenly side of the mural are two elderly men: the Parliament G and Mabeuf. Finally, the little angels surrounding the Bishop are Gavrocheâs younger brothers.
Nicky - Paul and vampire love pushing others into the dark
I'm listening to TVL audiobook as a warm-up, and I remembered writing about how out of character the last interactions between Nicki and Lestat felt when I first read the book.I just noticed that Nicki starts acting oddly, aggressive and pushy against Lestat, the moment Lestat realizes he is being watched. In fact, during the first major fight where Nicki suddenly becomes mean in the middle of a discussion, Lestat interrupts him because he has seen Magnus's face in the window.And this reminded me of how Paul became more erratic the moment Lestat appeared and started to prey on/seduce Louis.
Yes, we get confirmation over and over again that, canonically, Lestat didn't kill Paul. But what if it wasn't intentional? What if, when a vampire starts preying on someone who is important and close to you, something happens to you? What if the worst and most unstable parts of yourself come out?Not because vampires do it on purpose, but in the same way people can feel this inexplicable attraction to vampires, the loneliness they carry, the seduction of death, what if they can also feel the vampire's jealousy and resentment when they are not the object of love, and you are?
What if Nicky suffered this from both Magnus, and Armand maybe even Gabrielle.

Hi! In regard to armandstat, how are you feeling about the portrayal and dynamics of their relationship? Do you think the show did justice to the book and their amazing, fucked up dynamic? Iâd Armand a gremlin? Even in the present, is it still the armandstat we love to hate and hate to love?
I can't go into it without spoilers but my friend said soemthing about Lestat and Armand's dynamic and their simiarities with their traumas (not just magnus) and how that shapes their entire dynamic.

One of my biggest wishes for TVL is an adaptation of this
Iwtv has attempted to be political in their first seasons, pointing explicitly and implicitly to how race, history, and queerness also affect the vampires.
I would love if they used this bit and show how in fact it's not like that. How the governments of the world treat the immigrants, how there is this trend of trad wife in newer generations, how people are struggling having to chose between gas, health or food. How we have to pay thousands of âŹ/$ for rooms of 10 m², or share houses with 8 roomies.
I also want my DM, and I want Nicky to be something tragic and beautiful and heartbreaking, I want all of the interactions that Gabrielle has with Lestat, and I want Claudia to come back and break her daddies heart but I also want this đĽş.

Fanmade TVC Book Covers: Inspired by The Vampire Armand
When I was making my other set of Vampire Chronicles ebook covers, I had another idea for a set inspired by my favorite of the original hardback covers: The Vampire Armand. The Vampire Armand cover isn't just well designed, it's also a specific painting referenced within the book, so I wanted to see if I could make covers with a similar design that also met that criteria for the other books!
As before, my disclaimer is that I am not a graphic designer, I am a nerd with a hobby! I don't own the rights to any of these books, images, or paintings (and I believe they are all out of copyright). I hope you like them!
See below for what each painting is, and a few notes about why I chose it and where it appears in the book:
Interview with the Vampire
Painting: Witches Sabbath by Francisco de Goya

Notes: In The Vampire Lestat, Lestat specifically references that Armand's cell contains copies of paintings by de Goya. There are two different de Goya paintings of a horned devil, I believe this one is the one described here.
The Vampire Lestat

Notes: Armand is repeatedly compared to Cupid as painted by Caravaggio in The Vampire Lestat, and this painting is of that figure. Lestat also references Gabrielle having copies of Caravaggio paintings in her rooms at his childhood home. This painting actually has scattered sheet music and a violin lying in the corner, which was another section I considered using to represent this book.

Blood and Gold

Note: Marius describes all three pieces by Botticelli in the Sistine Chapel over several pages, but the specific reference he makes that is quoted above is this painting, which is he compares to Pandora. Later he frequently compares Bianca to Botticelli's work, and I like the interpretation of this cover representing Bianca and Pandora.
Blackwood Farm
Painting: Salvador Mundi by DĂźrer

Note: Many paintings get referenced throughout Blackwood Farm, though many of the artists are ones discussed in other books. Quinn's answer to the question he and Tommy are discussing (which one painting would you save) is a Madonna by either Fra Filippo Lippi or Botticelli, artists represented elsewhere in this set.

Note: Later in the book the other characters reference recently purchased paintings, and paintings with sailboats in them, though this specific painting is not mentioned. Other paintings in Rue Royale are described as "impressionist paintings" showing the sky, which are implied to be Louis's, and Lestat mentions them not being his personal preference.

Notes: This is a painting from Rose's bedroom, and Rose is described as having fond memories of visiting the Rijksmuseum. This specific painting is not referenced but matches the subject matter and description and is by a Dutch artist, contemporary of Rembrandt, who has similar works in the Rijksmuseum.

Notes: All I had to work with here was that it was an impressionist painting that was special to Louis, so I wanted to find something that fit the tone of Blood Communion and was of a sunrise or a sunset, which feels in character for Louis. This painting is also currently in a private collection.
