Over the last two weeks, we've been getting sent home early because of the heat waves. The lab doesn't have central AC (only in a few rooms), and the running instrumentation makes the building even hotter. On top of that, only salaried employees get compensated for lost hours while hourly employees (like myself, and most of the staff) have to use their own PTO or work overtime to make up for lost hours (because HR and upper management are just slightly less helpful than a giant red blister on my taint). My manager is trying very hard to get the permit approved by the town board for us to get central AC, but we still have to wait (she even told us the town board started accepting bribes from other businesses to get their permits approved, jfc) It's going to be extremely hot again this week, so I'll go in 1-2 hours early so by the time the lab would have to be evacuated again, hopefully I'll get 8 hours in the day.
