i want to talk about kit and jumping off the waterfall again, because i have thoughts and those thoughts have never left my brain. less about the jumping and more about the landing.
if you look at the framing of the shot when she breaks the surface at the end of episode 7 and the position her body is in (specifically her arms), it feels pretty much zoomed in but identical to when she fell in skellin. now obviously in the time scale of the show they were travelling the shattered sea for a really long time whereas we see these events play out one episode after the other, but that to me is a direct parallel that definitely 1) shows MASSIVE character development and 2) would be at least somewhat traumatic for her
1) in skellin she falls because she's fighting with elora, she's blaming elora for everything that's gone wrong in her life and she's just been ripped away from her dad. she's hurting, she lashes out. she actually tells people what she's thinking and feeling for once (she sure does know to pick her moments). at the shattered sea, it's the complete opposite of this. she goes over the edge of the world with elora, not against her. she chooses to jump knowing that she might be leaving loved ones behind rather than being forcibly removed from one. the only thing really massively different about the shot in ep7 is how the lighting really makes her dad's sword shine and makes it obvious that it's on her back. probably symbolising that in a way she does have him there with her, another opposite to skellin.
2) she's so quick to pull herself out of that water. obviously it helps that she was somewhat expecting it this time but she clearly broke the surface quickly, even with the extra weight of a sword. kit isn't exactly the best at communicating or dealing with her feelings, we know this, do you really think that she took time to properly process skellin while on the shattered sea? because i don't and i think she'd have Feelings about being submerged in water like that so soon after.
they could've easily shown elora hitting the water, but they zoomed on kit and on madmartigan's sword. that feels deliberate. every little detail in this show is so thought out, it has to be on purpose.
theres probably more to this too but its half one in the morning so take what i can find the words for lmao.
