van loves tai, she’s the first taste of love they’ve ever had — the redhead had been so close to death far too many times, and every time they thought about her. they thought about her sobbing every night and spending the rest of her life alone: and while they don’t know why they’re still alive, a part of them is glad they are — for tai.

so they proposed, they lived — and wanted to spend the rest of their life with tai; they thought she wanted that too.

Tai would be at Van’s side for as long as she could be, it would be hard for Van — considering their prior experience with scars.

But Taissa would make it so easy for them. So careful, it became almost overwhelming at times. She would bring them every meal in bed, help them walk in the evenings. All starry eyed and sweet as she presses soft kisses to their knuckles as the two navigate through the house.

They’d spend their afternoons reading, watching movies, Tai studying while Van types their unnecessarily long movie reviews into Letterboxd. It was a calm two weeks of their lives, it felt like relief to be this domestic. It felt right.

At night, she’d pull them into her lap and kiss their hair, letting them ramble about their distant memories. How they would utilize piercings or tattoos as an outlet of control. Like they had some say over their cursed body.

It was never enough, but they look at themself differently in the mirror now. Carefully navigating around sensitive skin with the tips of their fingers, feeling nothing even close to dysphoria.

“Mm- Tai… I feel fine, really.” Van spoke a frustrated tone, a soft pout on their lips as they were pushed away from the tallers lips — arms batted away from underneath her shirt.

“No baby, the doctors told you to rest. You might feel fine, but we cant risk anything. I don’t want to risk anything.” She cooed, a pleading look in her dangerous brown eyes as she gently pushed Van off of her and back onto the safe mattress.

“Right, right. Sorry.” They rolled their eyes playfully — fuck, they were so grateful to have her, tears could’ve easily welled up in their glass eyes at her tender tone. “I guess I’m just… excited? I don’t know- I just feel like I used to be so uncomfortable having sex — obviously I got used to it, but I still have like… moments. Y’know? I mean- You can count how many times I’ve had sex with my shirt off on your fingers.”

They rambled, and Tai took in every word. Inhaling their speech like it was air, it made perfect sense. Van has always been so iffy about their chest, there were days where they were okay with it. Liked it even. But more often were the days where they didn’t even want her to ask.

“I know baby. I’ll call the doctor tomorrow, see if we can ask a few questions about stuff like that. But for now, just come lay here… I’m tired anyway.”

And Van did exactly that. Letting their girlfriend wrap her arms around their middle, press soft kisses to their neck as they drifted off into a comfortable dreamland.
