reposting for the 'uk on tumblr at work' crowd. results so far have a fairly disproportionate lead so in the interests of giving every region a fair shake here are my arguments for and against each:
pro: all the kids at those private schools will have been training since birth to murder their peers like in district 1
con: universally despised
pro: the most eldritch and mysterious of england's regions - a true wild card
con: residents used to flat terrain and low rainfall may not cope with rugged environment of the games
pro: rural peoples most likely to be skilled in folk medicine and foraging
con: statistically likely to end up with a peacable bristolian tribute with no combat skills
pro: canonically most similar to district 12, 'katniss' even sort of sounds welsh even if it'd be spelt "catnys" or something
con: lack of self-belief and positive mental attitude
pro: historic centre of heavy industry including weapons manufacturing
con: distinctive accent makes them easily tracked by enemies
pro: scariest region, full of pockets of intense violence (bbc sherwood, boston lincolnshire famously england's murder capital)
pro: cumbria closest parallel to district 13 (graphite and nuclear manufacturing) and therefore greatest potential to overturn the games altogether
con: high child poverty rates likely to result in sickly and unskilled tributes
pro: general population of uk fucking LOVES geordies so likely to enjoy high public support
con: while keen on fighting, chaotic and likely to lack discipline
pro: strongest and most cohesive sense of regional pride, likely to have borderline delusional rates of self-belief
con: it is on sight from the lancastrian and east mids tributes
pro: obvious favourites, famously good at fighting
con: no fun in backing the obvious favourites
pro: the paramilitaries bro
con: high risk of inter-tribute sectarian division
