AWESOME PIECE OF HUMAN MOLD

A few days ago in a parking lot in Lisbon wheelchair users and volunteers occupied all the available Non-Handicap spaces to make a point to able-bodied motorists what it is like to have “their” parking places unavailable to them.

On every wheelchair various notes were left like: “be right back”, “it only takes a moment”, “I’m get something here”, etc.

Do you remember the good old days? The days when we ran through those fields that seemed to never end?

Do you remember we would play all day long? No? Well i do. I Remember we used to fight so badly, all the time, but siblings fight dont they? Thats part of it, the loving the fighting and never letting go. I always hated fighting with you, but we could never get enough of riling eachother up. I wished for the fighting to end, there was already to much of it going on. It just got worse at time went by. We still had those moments between us. We still played, but it was diffrent. I still can’t put my finger on what changed. Looking back maybe i should have enjoyed the time i had with you.

Then things changed. Suddenly mom was taking me and our younger siblings to their dads house. Why? i dont understand why would she take me there? More importantly where were you? We stayed the night there. Their stepmom was nice but nothing could really distract me from the feeling in my gut.

Two days later mom is asking me if i want to skip school and go to a funeral. Who died? Is that why we were gone for so long? The next words sent chills down my spine. Uncle Ray? He died? It couldn’t be true. But i could tell from her look it was. I remember not crying, and leaving the room, i wanted, no needed to find you. He was your dad afterall. I found you when i looked out window You didnt look upset, but i knew you. You were devistaed, but i couldn’t get up the courage to talk to you What could i even say anyway? I didn’t know how you felt, how could  even comfort you? Maybe i should just distance myself and give you time.

Soon after that you weren’t living with mom anymore. It wasnt that big of a deal, you were living in the same town as me now. I don’t remember much of that time but i know i didnt get to see you as often as i thought i would.

I’m in Eighth grade now. I made new friends a few months ago but you wouldnt know that i ask people if they know you and i gladly tell people that you’re my older brother but you wouldnt know that, would you? Now im crying in the halls, where are you? Why weren’t you there? Why was my Enemy there comforting me and not you? Why was he there and not my older brother? Did you not care?

Highschool is easier than i thought. Even though all my friends left me. It’s okay though, i still have you right? Are you still there? Mom asked you  a long time ago to protect me, that im not a strong girl, i needed it. That people would pick on me because of my size. You reluctently agreed. Then you left. Where did you go? Why did you leave me here all by myself?

I met an old friend, a boy. I think im starting to develope a crush. Isn’t this the part where you’re supposed to tell me no dating and be over protective?

I’m starting to get really insecure and depressed about this. We’ve barley spoke 100 words in 5 years. What happened? I try speaking to you in the halls here and there but you brush me off. I have to go speak to the counsler often because of it.

The day you went swimming with us at the river is one of my favorite memories. We were back to normal! We joked around we laughed we played in the water and we had fun! I was so happy! Could we go back? I hope.

Im going to online school now. I gave in i couldnt take being around so many people anymore. Its going good though. Im still talking with that boy, he’s my best friend infact.

I never see you anymore. mom never sees you anymore. how long has it been? 2 years? do you even care anymore? i do, i miss you so bad. Please come back.

Well you came back, but you’re living with our aunt. When i go over i start to hope that you’ll talk to me. But, you dont, you barley even look at me. Did i do something wrong? Do you hate me? Im sorry, just tell me what i did! I wont do it again!

Where are you?! It hurts! I just want you to hold me! Everyone is gone! He broke my heart! Im not good enough! Please come back! I love you please come back! I need you! I Miss you! I love you! I want my older brother!

Its hard trying to be the eldest sibling. especially when you have one yourself. I’m taking care of them, im there. Im always there for them. Unlike you were for me. Sometimes i think that if my own brother doesnt love me how can someone else? So I lock up my depression and anxiety as good as i can. I wont let them see me that way. Im basically the oldest. They look up to me, im trying to be a good role model. I dont want to let them see me break. I guess its my pride. I take pride in being the oldest, knowing that they depend on me. Did you know what makes me even more upset? Our younger sister came to me a few months ago, She told me that she doesnt see you as her brother, she’s lost hope that you’ll come back.

Another year, mores missed birthday, and more missed well everything. Im not sure i can forgive you now. You missed our sibling grow up not a single happy birthday for 8 years, made mom depressed, you barely even talked with her at all for 8 years you weren’t there for 8 fucking years.                                                                        There is so much you missed, so many times we needed you, but you weren’t there                                                                                                                         Even still, I still miss you even if i cant forgive you.                                            Now I stand here looking at those never ending fields we grew up in, and i realize maybe those fields weren’t never ending.                                                   I mean everything has to end some time right?
