It's like when you go to Antarctica and have to get your appendix removed
i keep laughing at the way that eridian culture in the movie and eridian culture in the book are not contradictory at all, if you accept that movie rocky is just a total FREAK
grace: boy i sure can't wait to meet other eridians haha! rocky, putting on a shirt for the first time in four years: rocky has something to tell grace but does grace promise not to be mad, question?
I can't leave this in the tags lmaooo
What do you mean āchatā is now referring to ChatGPT and not twitch chat? What? What? What the fuck? No?
When I address chat I am speaking to a presumed Greek chorus of real human people shitposting on their lunch break, not a machine that devours lakes to covert electricity into slop.

āX bodily fluid is just filtered blood!ā buddy I hate to break it to you but ALL of the fluids in your body are filtered blood. Your circulatory system is how water gets around your body. It all comes out of the blood (or lymph, which is just filtered blood).
āOkay but why is it always so chemically roundabout and unnecessarily complicatedā well buddy, thatās because your blood is imitation seawater. See? Itās very simple.
Blood is what now?
Itās imitation seawater what part is confusing
#are you telling me#humans are just sentient aquariums?Ā
Buddy if anything is living in your blood (except for more parts of you) in detectable amounts then you have a serious microbial infection and need to go to the hospital.
Humans are seawater wastelands kept sterile of all but human cells, with microbial mats coating their surfaces.
Thank you thatāsā¦very disturbing
Itās not my fault youāre human.
Ok but āItās not my fault youāre human.ā Is the best comeback ever.
You can use it against anyone except children that you biologically helped to create.
#/blood is imitation seawater/ is the part thatās confusingĀ
Picture this: you are a Thing That Lives In The Ocean. Some kind of small multicellular animal a long time ago, before proper circulatory systems existed. āWow,ā you think, metaphorically, āit sure is difficult to diffuse chemicals across my whole body. Kinda puts a hard limit on the size and distance of what specialised organs I can have. Good thing I have all this water around me thatās the same salinity as my cells (they have to be that way so I donāt explode or shrivel up) so I can diffuse and filter chemicals with that.ā
āWait a minute,ā you say a couple of generations later, because youāre not actually a small animal but an evolutionary process personified and simplified to the point of dangerous inaccuracy for the purposes of a Tumblr post, āinstead of losing all these important chemicals to the water around me, how about I put it in tubes? I can keep MY water separate from the rest of the worldās water! Anything I want to keep goes in my water! Anything I donāt, I dump back into the outside water! Iām a genius! An unthinking natural trial-and-error process thatās a GENIUS!ā
āWow,ā you think a great many generations later, ābeing able to have such control over such high concentrations of important chemicals is so great. Look how big Iām getting. I even have a special pump to move my seawater around, and these cool filter systems to keep the chemicals in it right, and that control and chemical concentration has let me grow so many energy-intensive, highly specialised organs! Being big is so hard. I need special cells just to carry my oxygen around now, to make sure my enormous, constantly-operating body has enough of it.ā
At this point you are embodying a fish, and eventually, fish start straying into water with different pressures and salinity levels. (I mean, they do that since befor ehtyāer fish, but⦠look, Iām trying to keep things simple here.) āWhat the FUCK,ā you think. āMy inside water is at a different salinity and pressure to the outside water?? How am I supposed to deal with that? I canāt have freshwater inside my seawater tubes! My cells have a set salinity and they would explode! I need to start beefing up my regulatory and filter systems so that my inside seawater STAYS SEAWATER OF THE CORRECT SALINITY even if the outside water is different! Fortunately, adding salt to my seawater is a lot easier than removing it, and I want to be saltier than this weird outside water.ā At this point you beef up your liver and urinary systems to compensate for different salinities. (Note: the majority of fish, freshwater and saltwater, have a fairly narrow band of salinities they can live in. Every fish doesnāt get to deal with every level of salinity; they are evolved to regulate within specific bands.)
You also, at some point, go out on land. This is new and weird because you have to carry all of your water inside. āItās a good thing I turned myself into a giant bag of seawater,ā you think. āIf I wasnāt carrying my seawater inside, how would I transport all these important chemicals between my organs and the environment?ā As you specialise to live entirely outside of the water, you realise (once again) that itās a lot easier to add salt to water than to remove it in great quantities. Drinking seawater in large amounts becomes toxic; your body isnāt specialised for removing that amount of salt. Instead, you drink freshwater, and add salts to that. The majority of your organs are, at this point, specialised for moving your seawater around, protecting it, adding stuff to it, or taking stuff out. You have turned yourself into an intelligent bag for carrying and regulating a small amount of imitation seawater, and its salinity (and your commitment to maintaining that salinity) is based entirely on the seawater that some early animals started to build tubes around a long time ago.
And thatās what a human is!
Well, thereās another few steps, of course.
Because at some point, operating along lines of logic that worked out perfectly so far, you did decide to be a mammal.
A mammal is a machine for adapting to Circumstances. A mammal is a tremendously resilient all-terrain life-support system, with built-in heating, cooling, respiration, and incubators for reproduction. Mammals internalise everything (grudges, eggs) and furthermore are excessively, flamboyantly wet internally. Sure, everyoneās a bag of chemicals; but mammals slosh. Mammals took the concept of an internal ocean and took it in an unnecessarily splashy direction, added aftermarket mods and a climate-control system,
and just to show off, you leaned across the metaphorical gambling table and said: āmy internal ocean is so good-ā
āBullshit,ā said the shark, keeping it salty (ha)
āMy internal ocean is so brilliantly resilient, more so than any of YOURS,ā you said, holding their attention with a digit held aloft, āthat for my next trick, I shall artistically recreate the ballad of evolution as a performance. I shall craft a complex chemical ballet depicting the origin of multicellular life - using some of my own material, of course-ā
āOh, ANYONE can lay an egg,ā yodel the fish, and the ray adds: āontogeny does NOT recapitulate phylogeny!!ā
And youāre like, āyeah no, itās an artistic rendition, not a literal thing. Basically Iām going to take some cells and brew them up-ā
āLike an egg.ā
āLike an egg. An egg but internally.ā
āYeah,ā said the viviparous reptile, āyeah, like, that can work really well. Iāve always said itās the highest test of oneās chemical know-how. Itās a lot of work. And forget about support from your family - forget about support from your PHYLUM - all you get is criticism.ā
āIām gonna do it on purpose forever,ā you said. āThe highest chemical, thermoregulatory, immunological, everything-logical challenge. Itās gonna be my thing.ā
āIām with you,ā said a viviparous fish, stoutly. āRepresentation.ā
You kindly donāt point out, once again, that youāre planning to do this outside the ocean, in a range of temperatures; carrying the dividing cells in a perfect 37.5⢠solution of saline broth in all terrains, breathing oxygen in a complicated matter, you know, bit more difficult; but you need your allies.
āItās solid,ā says the coelacanth.
āBut is it metal?ā says the deep-vent organism.
āOh, itās metal. I will feed the young,ā you say, magnificently, āon an echo of the mother ocean. The first rich feast of cellular matter, the first hunt for sustenance, the first bite they sip of our liquid planet-ā
Everyone waits.
āWill be a blood byproduct. My own blood byproduct.ā
Everyone looks uncomfortable.
āBut,ā a hagfish says carefully, ādonāt you outdoorsy guys still need your blood?ā
You cough and explain that if you stay wet enough internally and hydrate frequently, you should be able to produce enough blood byproduct to sustain your hellish new invention until they can eat your peers.
The outrage that follows includes questions like āis this some furry shit?ā And: āmilk has WATER in it?ā
And you won the bet. āMy inner ocean is such a perfect homage to the primordial soup that I can personally cook up an entire live hairy mammal in it. And then generate excess blood byproduct from my body and give it to the small mammal until it gets big.ā
That is an absolutely bonkers pitch, by the way, and everyone thought you were a showoff, even before the opposable thumbs. When the winter came, and the winter of winters, and the rain was acid and the air was poison on the tender shells of their eggs and choked the children in the shells; when the plants turned to poison, and the ocean turned against you all; when the climate changed, and the worldās children fell to shadow; your internal ocean was it that held true. A bet laid against the changing fates, a bet laid by a small beast against climate and geography and the forces of outer space, that you won. The dinosaurs fell and the pterosaurs fell and the marine reptiles dwindled, and you, furthest-child, least-looked-for, long-range-spaceship, held hope internally at 37.5 degrees. Which is another thing that humans do, sometimes.
It has been MONTHS, @elodieunderglass, and I am still mumbling āfurthest-child, least-looked-for, long-range-spaceshipā under my breath as a comfort phrase, and the FUCKING INDIGNITY that it came from this godforsaken post about THE HORRIBLE WETNESS OF MAMMALS!
āThe horrible wetness of mammalsā would make a great band name.
āhold hope, internally, at 37.5 degreesā and āMammals internalize everything (eggs, grudges)ā Now live permanently in my vocabulary

but nature played its trick on me.
i know i shouldnt be suprised but sinners being out for less than a week and already tumblr is fandomifying and 'poor wet pathetic cat'-ifying the main white man villain of the movie is so... disapointing??? like did the fucking point of the movie really go over your heads that badly or are you just willingly ignorant and stupid?
AND BEFORE ANYONE STARTS; im not saying you cant like remmick, he's a very interesting character, a great villain, and jack o'connell gave a great performance playing him, nor do i care if you think hes sexy, I think hes sexy
but i think to come out of a movie where vampires serve as a metaphor for how black american communities have the life sucked out of them by white people via cultural appropriation (remmick wanting to use sammie's gift to summon his own ancestors) and forced assimilation (all the turned vampires singing and dancing along with remmick's irish folk song and dance juxtaposed with the blend of cultures during sammie's song in the juke joint) and for your main take away to be 'aww the main villain is just a misunderstood sadboy' or 'idc abt the atrocities he looked sexy doing them (when the atrocities in question were racism)' then youre just being so disengenuous and antithetical to the whole point of the film?
and dont come at me with the 'let people enjoy things' bullshit, sinners is a movie FUNDAMENTALLY about racism and racial dynamics in the united states, and i do think focusing on your little y/n x [whiteboy of the month] fics and 'hes so babygirl' posts do actually stunt your own critical engagement with the message this movie was trying to convey to its audience
i think its also a disservice to remmick's character; the moral nuance that comes to light when you consider his position as an irish immigrant to the US, a victim of the colonialist british empire just like the black main cast (although in a very different way) and how, whilst his desire to reclaim his ancestry and heritage is understandable and even relatable, his pursuit of sammie and willingness to kill literally everyone else at the juke joint is allegorical for how, regardless of their own marginalisation, white people will prey upon and steal from black culture(s) and destroy/disenfranchise black communities to serve their own interests, and the movie is NOT subtle about this either, delta slim literally lays it out for us "white folks like the blues just fine, they just don't like the people who make them"
idk im yelling into the void here, the ppl im complaining about are never going to give a shit about racism or even just critically engaging with art when theres a new cute whiteboy to write fluff and angst about, but its just soooo annoying to see, yet again, how fandom spaces, which SHOULD be about uplifing and celebrating art in all its diversity and complexity, once again is nothing more than people ignoring anything that actually makes them have to confront reality and filing off the serial numbers to slot characters into pre-determined fanon molds so they can pump out incorrect quotes and coffee shop AUs en masse until the media iliterate heat death of the universe

remmick and the vampires present a false dichotomy
Hogwood (the man who sold the twins the mill) and the KKK are very obviously bad, they are outright malicious bigotry, they use the n-word and plan to lynch the moore's and their community, they are so blatantly racist and hateful it's unavoidably obvious
remmick and the vampires however say that they believe in equality, say that they want to create a community, and yet remmick's goal throught the movie is to both metaphorically and literally steal sammie's ability for his own goal of reconnecting with his irish ancestors, a white man wants to harm a young and upcoming black man and use talents for his own goals without giving any regard to said black man's autonomy or agency
when sammie sings 'I lied to you' in the juke joint and calls forth the spirits from the past and future, it's a blend of cultures; west african, east asian, native american, and african american song and dance blend together across time and space to tell the stories of blues; where it takes its inspiration from, the music genres it then inspired, the complex history of black american culture and its intersections with other peoples of colour in the USA
when remmick and the vampires kill and turn the people in the juke joint, and then perform rocky road to dublin, only remmick's irish culture is on display, there is no influence from the black and asian people he has forcibly assimilated into his song, it's juxtaposition with the earlier scene is blatant, remmick is more than happy to assimilate people of colour into his 'community' of 'equals', and yet its only whiteness that is celebrated, that is normative
remmick claims that he's doing people a favour by turning them immortal, conviently ignoring that he literally has to suck the life out of them to do so, trapping their spirits on earth, he claims that he's the good guy, that the KKK were gonna come and lynch everyone at the joint in the morning anyways, conviently ignoring that he's doing the exact same thing; a white man leading a mob to kill a bunch of black people
in the final confrontation with sammie remmick repeatedly dunks him into the river, a forceful baptism. both the celtic irish and enslaved west africans had their religions suppressed and destroyed by colonialsm, had christianity forced upon them by the british empire, and in that scene we see remmick repeating that cycle, using christianity to inflict harm, and sammie reclaiming christianity, despite all the complex emotions he has arround it, as many colonised peoples have and still do, when he recites the lord's prayer
remmick and the vampires are no less racist than hogwood and the KKK, are no less predatory or evil, they're just less blantant about their bigotry, they represent the system, the normalised white supremacy that is seeped into the very foundation of culture in america, the point isnt that remmick would call any of the black characters in the movie the n-word, i dont think he would, the point is that his exploitation and desacration and inserting-himself-into-when-he-wasn't-invited of the juke joint is a microcosm of what white people have done to black american arts and culture since ever since there have been black and white people in america, and even before that
theres a reason vultures are shown early on in this movie
I thinks folks expressing incredulity at the quality of the writing and composition in Calvin and Hobbes are often missing the context that Bill Watterson is arguably the most influential sequential artist of his generation. Like, this is a guy who once told the editors of nationally syndicated newspapers to go fuck themselves when they wanted to mess with his panel layouts, and not only did he keep his job, he got his way. He could have had literally any gig he wanted, and he chose to be the Sunday funnies guy because that's what made him happy. He's basically the Weird Al of sequential art.
Watterson considers comics to be as true an art form as painting and films and literature, capable of reaching just as high as any other medium. Calvin and Hobbes isn't accidentally high art. Watterson made it what it is on purpose. And when he was done, he stopped. No movie, no spinoff, no reboot. He considers the comic to be its completed form, in exactly the medium it is supposed to be. He believed in comics in a way few others ever have, and he fought tooth and nail for the right to take his own work, jokes and all, seriously.
Misty Quigley is the complex character of Yellowjackets; an unnecessarily long essay of my thoughts that no one will read probably
[SPOILER ALERT] Misty Quigley from Yellowjackets is arguably one of the most interesting complex characters I've ever seen.
She's written in both the kids and adults timeline EXACTLY like a serial killer. Walter points this out in season two. At first, you can blame what happened in the wilderness for Misty's actions, but as time goes on within the show, even just the pilot episode, you start to realize that Misty has always been somewhat deranged.
Misty is the only character whose face is shown in the entire pit girl scene, she takes off her mask to reveal a sort of sadistic smile on her face. This is right near a scene where she, as a nurse, takes pain medications away from a patient. Your first thought of Misty is 'this woman is absolutely insane.' Still within the pilot, while all the characters are at a party, Misty is sitting alone, watching a rat drown. She doesn't attempt to save it, just observes it's downfall.
As season one goes on, we begin to notice that Misty is definitely a loner. She doesn't have many people that care about her and uses people around her for a purpose before dropping them seemingly. But she becomes elated as soon as the other Yellowjackets need her help. In the kids timeline, Misty is portrayed as the weird girl. One of her first scenes in the wilderness is her chopping someone's leg off, immediately followed by her getting *excited* to tell him. She proceeds to break the plane's transponder, the only thing that could have rescued them, until she realized she's needed.
Teen Misty is portrayed as a sympathetic character. She wants to be included and shows genuine sadness around not being included. A lot of the characters tend to think of her as sad or pathetic in a way, despite her having proven multiple times that not only is she competent, the majority of the Yellowjackets would have been dead without her. Misty isn't valued or treated as good as the rest of the girls, she's *needed*. If they had anyone else that knew medical care as well as teen Misty, Misty would not have made it to the adult timeline.
In the adult timeline, the same rules apply. Misty isn't appreciated, she's needed.
That all being said, Misty is a calm, collected, character that we hardly see breaking down. Misty truly cares for very few people, we see this while she works as a nurse both in the teen and adult timelines. She's not a bad person because of this, but she has very little empathy or regard for life, unless it's a life that truly matters to her. Crystal, Nat, and Caligula all show this. When Misty cares, she cares deeply.
Not only this, Misty is an extremely charismatic person and an extremely good liar. The reason no one likes her is she freaks them out. She's managed to charm a lot of characters or simply manipulate them into doing exactly what she wants them to do various times. Jessica Roberts is the prime example of this, also Lisa in season three. Girl gets exactly what she wants from people, whether they care about her or not.
Misty Quigley is the one Yellowjackets character that has gotten away with murder at least twice in the adult timeline. None of the other characters have been able to clean up after themselves or go unnoticed as effectively as Misty. Misty is never asked about the murders, never accused, never convicted. The one murder she is accused of was Shauna's, not hers.
And yet Misty isn't to our knowledge, a Serial Killer. She kills with intent, and purpose, and seems to pick her victims on a basis of protection rather than personal interest. She only kills if she feels she absolutely has to.
Adding onto this, Misty is a citizen detective. Misty is *known* to SOLVE murder cases. She's considered to be extremely reputable in the citizen detective community. She works as a NURSE. She's not just a killer, she is also one of the people who the world needs MOST.
Misty is also the only character who doesn't pretend like what they did in the wilderness didn't happen. Yes, she keeps it a secret for the rest of her team, but she seems like the only living Yellowjacket who not only has made peace with who she is, she actively embraces it. She knows damn well what she did as a Yellowjacket in the wilderness, and she doesn't try to hide that aspect of her personality.
Strangely enough, she's also the only Yellowjacket who isn't seen by the majority of characters as *just a Yellowjacket.* In the adult timeline, the majority of characters that encounter Misty outside of the other Yellowjackets view her as completely separate from it. We see this with Walter especially - Misty is a Yellowjacket. But with Misty, that's seen as just another bullet on a long list of things that Misty is. Taissa Turner is literally elected SENATOR and the only smear on her name anyone can come up with is "She's a Yellowjacket." Shauna Shipman has been reduced to a Yellowjacket, even though she's a mother, a wife, and so many more things. The only other character who has risen above this title is Melissa, who literally had to fake her own death to do so.
Misty is not a good person. There's no question in anyone's minds about that. But she never tried to think of herself as a good person, which is the one thing allowing her to rise above and beyond the title of 'Yellowjacket.' Misty is essential, she's charming, she's absolutely fucking deranged. But one thing that no one ever says about Misty, in the entire story, is that she's a Yellowjacket.
TL;DR: Misty Quigley has never denied who she was as a person, making her the only Yellowjacket that has never been reduced to "Just one of the Yellowjackets."
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. If you want me to do intense character analysis on anyone else (Doesn't have to be Yellowjackets) let me know!!
āI love toxic female charactersā, āI support womenās wrongsā, āI think she should be worseā but then you guys hate Shauna??
Iām so glad to have a female character like Shauna, whoās filled with anger and grief and doesnāt know how to separate one and the other, same to how she doesnāt know how to separate her best friend from herself. A character whose childhood best friend has haunted her all of her life and who has the most complex relationship with motherhood and who is aggressive and violent but wasnāt always that way, and who longs for power and control because she felt powerless for so long and who is the one who was asked to butcher the corpse of a little boy and she had to cover her eyes because she couldnāt bear it.
Shauna who had fun hunting her teammates to eat them and who forced another girl to perform the action (butchering) that had marked her for so long as a punishment. Shauna who beat up a girl until almost killing her, despite having no personal conflict specifically with her, simply to let it out. Shauna who has unhealthy relationships with the women near her (her best friend, her girlfriend, her daughter, the girl whoās her complete foil (Nat), the girl standing in her way from becoming a ruler (Mari)). Shauna who was deeply repressed pre-crash and continued to be repressed after being rescued, Shauna āboring housewifeā Shipman, who kills rabbits, Shauna for who the patriarchy is deeply embedded in her storyline, Shauna who is cruel, and holds resentment and anger inside of her until she blows up and ends up taking it out on others, Shauna who gave birth in the woods to a dead baby and who ate the week-old burnt corpse of her best friend and whose skin is always simmering up with barely contained rage.
Shauna who is blood and meat and guts.
Shauna who doesnāt know how else to be if not blood and meat and guts.
IN DEFENSE OF TRAVIS MARTINEZ:
Because Iām sick and tired of seeing travis hate everywhere I go.
āTravis was sexist.ā
Did he spout some sexist rhetoric in the beginning of the show? Sure. But itās important to recognize that: A) he changed, and by season 2 he completely stopped, B) he was a teenage boy in the 1990s, and that kind of rhetoric was normal at the time, C) most of his sexist macho tough guy attitude was a complete act that he likely put on to compensate for his insecurity about his own masculinity, and internalized homophobia. (More on that later.)
(Also letās be real, Travis is basically one of the girls anyway and Iām tired of pretending heās not.)
2. āTravis didnāt care about Javi.ā
Did we watch the same show??? Granted Travis may have had trouble expressing his feelings (also related to his insecurities about masculinity, likely learned from his father, as well as growing up in a patriarchal and homophobic society), but he cared deeply about Javi. In S1E4, Travis literally DUG UP HIS DADāS GRAVE, through horror, tears, and vomit, in order to retrieve his ring to give to Javi. When Javi disappeared, Travis kept looking for him every day for months, and never gave up, even when logically it would have seemed impossible for him to still be alive. He comforted and reassured Javi when neither of them drew the card. He cradled Javiās dead body and ate a bite of his raw heart (which was a metaphor for how much he loved him, and a parallel to Shauna eating Jackieās raw ear.) Maybe Travis wasnāt always there for Javi in the way he needed, but he absolutely loved him, and itās important to remember that Travis was also a traumatized, grieving, kid who just lost his dad.
3. āTravis slut-shamed Nat.ā
As we are literally shown in the show, Travis was not trying to slut shame her, he asked how many times she had done it because he was embarrassed about the fact that he was a virgin, and worried that she would judge him, or that he wouldnāt measure up because he was more inexperienced than her. When she told him she hooked up with Bobby Farleigh, he did not get mad at her because she slept with another guy (he already knew about that, and was fine with it), he got mad because she hooked up with his bully, and then lied to him about it. I donāt blame Nat for this, she didnāt know about it at the time, and didnāt want him to get mad once she found out, but I also donāt blame Travis for being hurt and embarrassed and upset with her for lying about it.
4. āTravis was just kind of a dick.ā
Sure, but so were all of them. He acted like kind of a jerk in the first season. So what? Shauna had an affair with her best friendās boyfriend, lied to her about it for months, and refused to apologize. Misty tried to drug Coach Ben. Nat faked his brotherās death to him (yeah, she was trying to help him move on, but still not cool). All of them called him āFlexā (yāknow, the nickname that was used to bully him for years). None of them are perfect or nice or likable all the time, and thatās ok; thatās the whole point. Theyāre realistic, complex, flawed, morally gray and sometimes unlikable people. Theyāve all done bad things, but nothing Travis did is worse than what anyone else on that show has done. He was a traumatized teen whose dad literally just died. Also, me personally, if everyone around me was constantly calling me the mean nickname that was used to bully me since middle school, I would also probably act like a little bit of a dick.
5. āTravis is a straight man.ā
Wrong. (Also not really a valid reason to hate someone⦠But most importantly, just wrong.)
Travis Martinez is clearly a bisexual.
So many of his issues: the insecurity, the bullying, the macho tough guy act, the whole weird complex about his masculinity, all of it stems (at least partly) from the fact that heās bisexual and has internalized homophobia. The whole āFlexā thing is just thinly veiled homophobia. The main reason why he got bullied is because Bobby Farleigh spread a rumor about him getting back surgery to better suck his own dick. The unsaid implication there is that heās a man who sucks dick, which is inherently queer, even if it is his own. If you look even slightly past the most surface level interpretation, itās pretty obvious that Travis was bullied because of homophobia. His performance of stereotypical toxic masculinity was clearly over compensation for the fact that he doesnāt fit into the box of traditional straight masculinity, and was a reaction to the bullying from his peers, abuse from his dad, and internalized homophobia from growing up in a homophobic and patriarchal society. As the show progresses he starts to unlearn that toxic masculinity and internalized homophobia, and he allows himself to be more vulnerable, emotional, and feminine, and as a result, he becomes stronger, more confident, and more respectful of the people around him.
As for Travis being a man⦠Is he though???
In season 1, Travis is a man (narratively speaking); there is a clear distinction between Travis/Coach Ben and the girls. However, in season 2, we see a stark shift in how Travis is depicted. The separation between Travis and the girls pretty much ceases to exist. Narratively speaking, there is no distinction made between Travis and the other girls; they are one entityāone hive mind. Instead, the emphasis is now placed on the distinction between Coach Ben and the girls/Travis. When Coach Ben watches the Yellowjackets eat Jackie in horror and disbelief, Travis is right there with them, dressed in ancient greek robes along with the rest of them. In season 2, Coach Ben is the only real Man of the group (Travis has narratively become one of the girls, and Javi is just a boy, not a man) and he is shown staying separate from the rest of the group, and growing more and more uncomfortable with the cultish dynamics, while Travis, on the other hand, becomes more and more integrated with the group, as he falls deeper and deeper into cult beliefs, until he is a full-blown devout Lottie worshipper. Of the three males on the show, he is the only one who actually participates in cannibalism with the other Yellowjackets. Also he lost his virginity to a lesbian.
Whether or not you choose to believe that Travis is transfem (I do) you cannot deny that, at least narratively speaking, Travis is literally just a girl.
6. Travis is a victim.
I donāt know why nobody in this fandom seems to acknowledge this, but Travis is a sexual assault victim and Iām tired of people constantly overlooking and ignoring that fact. In Doomcoming, the girls (excluding Jackie, Nat, Tai, and Van) chased him down, sexually assaulted him, and then tried to kill him. Thatās not something thatās up for debate or denial, that is literally canon. Stop pretending it didnāt happen. Stop pretending it wasnāt assault. Stop shaming him and making fun of him for struggling with sex, or not always being able to get it up. Thatās a normal trauma response after being assaulted/raped. You guys are literally proving the point. This kind of treatment from society towards masculinity and male victims is just playing into the patriarchy and toxic masculinity, and is exactly what made him act the way he did in season 1 in the first place!

the most valueable skill a white leftist can ever learn is how to take an L with grace.
You gotta be able to take an L if your moral and ethical belief systems are to be capable of guiding you. Otherwise you just have an idealized self where you get really mad and scared when anyone points out it isn't actually you. How the fuck are you gonna walk the walk if you can't handle being told when you are not, in fact, actually walking it
you cannot just socially transition into being a good person you are going to have to settle for being a messy human being who has to try and fail and keep trying to get better like everyone else. yeah even when it's embarassing and sucks for you a lot.
Ya gotta learn to earnestly and honestly say "Oh shit, my bad."
And to then end the sentence there, not launch into a paragraph of explanation or panicked super-apology.
Actually, don't end the sentence there. It needs to be "Oh shit, my bad; I will do better."
Apologies mean nothing without follow-through.
Coca-Cola (and Dixie Cup) pioneered the recycling movement in the 40ās to get people to return valuable glass bottles by charging almost half of the cost of the drink in a returnable fee. Nearly everyone returned their bottles; it was a huge success. When they switched to plastic in the 50ās it became more profitable to just toss bottles away so they used shell organizations to secretly lobby congress and senates to kill recycling bills while simultaneously creating massive ad campaigns to convince the public that recycling was all the consumerās responsibility. This isnāt a conspiracy theory, itās public knowledge that gets drowned out in the noise made by their PR firms.
Last year Coca-Cola was still up to the same environmental villainry. More recycling advertising campaigns and killed bottle-fee bills which have been long proven to massively boost recycling rates but also push the cost of recycling from the consumer onto the manufacturer. Thatās also detailed in the previous link.
Donāt ever make the mistake of thinking that large corporations care about this world or anything in it other than profit. Theyāll engage in charity as an investment if the campaign offers good return for their brand value and public image, but donāt think for a second we can get capitalists to behave ethically through any other means than forcing them to do it.
Major corporations negate the efforts of thousands of people over a year in only one day.
