I feel like Gooseworx accidentally made the other circus characters super interesting or did not make Jax interesting enough which is why so many people were upset at the story emphasis on him. If Jax was just that interesting nobody would be complaining about the ending and nobody would be complaining about him being the main character. But he wasn’t.

And I would say “people can’t handle complex characters” or whatever but the thing is he wasn’t complex. He was frustratingly simple. We’ve all seen this type of character before. He’s mean but snarky. He pushes people away but that’s cause of trauma. He puts on a funny attitude and hurts people because he’s broken inside or whatever.

There are tons of shows with unlikable or downright evil protagonists. Bojack Horseman, Walter White, fuck even Ted (the protagonist in I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream which TADC was famously based on) is a perfect example of this.

Jax was too much of a dick to be properly redeemed, but his cruelty was rarely acknowledged in the story. No one ever properly called him out on his bullshit, there was not enough attention showed to the actual pain he was causing. Then the story wants you to feel bad for him, but how is anyone supposed to do that? They just showed him being an asswhole then gave him a sad backstory.

I’m sorry your romantic foibles were overshadowed by a big ass atomic lizard thing.
