I think, in the Among Us universe, your color name and hexcode are your "legal", government names but then most people can have a "chosen" name that they use for daily living. That's why we have Purple's cousin "Joshie" (who's probably an Indigo variant, that's why Purple had an Indigo phase in college, bcos they looked up to Joshie).
But since the Crewmates we know are all MIRA employees and are part of an organization that seems to be corporate/military, the employees go by their legal color and hexcodes, and are identified by their rank, position, and assigned crew.
So you'd introduce yourself as "Captain Red, FF000D, Skeld", which would differentiate you from "Engineer Red, C30F16, Svero" or "Doctor Red, D6001C, Solaris Colony".
