listen, i know people have a lot to say about the whole dylan/ryan thing in the quarry but multiple things can be true folks
is it true that ryan shouldnât have to change his personality or become more sociable just so he can be more compatible in a relationship? yes. is it true that dylan shouldnât have to be subjected to someone being dismissive of his feelings and leading him on? yes. is it true that being interested in someone and being attracted to them doesnât necessarily mean an actual relationship is the right path? absolutely. shared trauma doesnât always bring people together, sometimes itâs just a sour reminder and thatâs okay.
one character doesnât have to be in the wrong, multiple things can be true and even queer relationships donât always work out. media representing that part of what dating is like is okay and actually very realistic, even if it might be disappointing to players. the important thing is that for once itâs not queerbaiting and it acknowledges the actual feelings involved, even if dating isnât the end result.
ok one thing I havenât seen anyone talking about is that I think klausâ apparent gunshot to the chest is probably going to be one of at least a few âdeathsâ this season and Iâm not sure of anyone has noticed the other indication
the quality isnât great but you can kind of see there are no marks on his jacket here, but heâs obviously standing in the middle of a road
and if you look closely here and the other angles in this scene, heâs got a giant tire mark on the jacket going across his chest. Iâm betting the camera zooming in on him in the first scene has got to be standing in for an oncoming car of some kind
I wouldnât be surprised if this is some sort of tactic he decides to lean into with more control of his powers but I highly doubt itâs something any of the others would be super on board with him doing as an actual strategy. still, this running theme seems angsty as hell and I canât wait

Journey to the Microcosmos:Â Tardigrades: Chubby, Misunderstood, & Not Immortal
Images originally captured by Jamâs Germs
Thank you @airyearthgirl for inspiring me to gif these amazing lines
[id: a series of extreme close-up gifs of tardigrades, captioned:Â âTardigrades are not extremophiles, they donât enjoy living in extreme conditions they are just good at surviving them. In that way, maybe they are something like us. We also sometimes live through situations we thought would be impossible. But, all things being equal, both tardigrades and us just want a nice place to live, plenty of yummy food, and whenever possible, to not be exposed to the vacuum of space.â]
Ooh ooh ooh! This looks like an excellent excuse valid reason to talk about one of my favorite topics, matriarch trees!
So, when you see trees in a forest, they stick up outta the ground, some distance from each other, and you're like 'these are unconnected critters,' right? But! The thing is! Just like the trees in the picture are connected above-ground, trees in a forest are normally connected below-ground. There's this whole complicated thing involving a symbiotic relationship with fungi, but we're gonna simplify it to this: trees connect to each other through their root systems.
And they use it to share resources, across the whole forest.
If there's a tree over here growing in soil with a lot of, like, potassium, they'll pull up more potassium than they need, and send it out through the root system to other trees that are living where there isn't much potassium.
And one of the coolest things? Trees communicate their needs. If a tree is sick or damaged or starving, they send chemical messages out through the root system that tell the other trees to send them more food and tree-equivalent-of-immune-system.
Trees will share so much of their resources, they'll even keep trees alive that are almost entirely dependent. Like this tree! The tree above is getting some energy from its leaves, but no other nutrition of its own. And it wasn't able to link up to the shared root system. So the other tree reached out and hooked up to it directly, feeding it all of the nutrients it needed!
You see it more commonly the other way around: in an old-growth forest, where the roots are well-established, you can find stumps where a tree was cut down a century ago... but if you scrape the stump it's still green wood. The tree's still alive, without a single leaf. Because all the other trees in the forest are feeding it.
I promised to talk about matriarch trees, so here's where we get to them.
In a very old forest, you have very old trees. You have some trees that are so very, very old, their own roots cover entire regions of the forest. Their leaves reach up to the sky over everyone else. And after so long, they've developed to where they can take in way more resources than they need.
So what do they do?
They feed baby trees.
Baby saplings in an old forest can't reach up to the sun. There's no light down there. And their roots are too small and shallow to dig down to the nutrients they need. So the matriarch tree will draw energy from its towering canopy, and nutrients from its massive, ancient roots, and feed them to the little trees that are too small to feed themselves. For anything she can't get on her own, she'll act as a central hub, taking in spare resources from the rest of the forest and giving them to the little ones.
And one of the best parts - she won't just do it for her own species. She'll connect to all kinds of trees, because they're all necessary for the ecosystem to work. She'll adopt the whole forest's children.
Sometimes in forests you'll find a spot where there are a lot of small trees in an open space around an old, fallen tree. People generally assume they could find more light there, or maybe the soil's more fertile from the decomposition.
But no.
They're her children, and she's spent centuries keeping the whole forest alive.

Hilda by Duane Bryers
More Hilda!!
in this family we love and support Hilda.
Yes! Hilda!
What i love about this artistâs depictions of women is even the sexualized ones the woman is always genuinely happy and enjoying herself. Frolicking or making funny faces, sheâs living her life and looking sexy while doing it, not sitting in a sexual pose for the audienceâs view.
I always forget about Hilda and am so pleased when she randomly shows up on my dash. Always makes my day
I love Hilda so much and I want her to be happy
more Hilda!
I freaking love Hilda, thereâs needs to be more art like this.
I will never not reblog Hilda
Throckmorton
Your cousin Throckmorton, the skateboarder.
Apparently this is a running gag in math textbooks
Oh, no, my friend, @aceyuurikatsuki . Itâs not just that. It is so much more. Settle down and let your friendly neighborhood x-ray tech explain you a thing.
Throckmortonâs Sign, otherwise known as Throckmortonâs Principle, does in fact have to do with dicks. Because it is fairly normal for a dick to show up on a hip or pelvis x-ray. But the thing about Throckmortonâs Sign is, itâs not just that the dick is visible. It is a legitimate diagnostic tool.
Let me explain: letâs say a person equipped with a penis is in a car accident and has right leg and right side hip/pelvic pain. Their doctor will order x-rays. Unfortunately, sometimes fractures are so small that they can be missed, or, because the patient is in such bad shape and the images obtained arenât the best quality, the radiologist canât be sure for one reason or another if what theyâre seeing is actually a fracture.
So what do they do? They look for the dick.
You heard me correctly. The dick.
Throckmortonâs Sign is when âthe penis points to the area of pain.â So if the above-mentioned AMAB patientâs xray arenât displaying a clear, obvious fracture, but their dick is pointing to the right side, 9 times out of 10, the injury or fracture is on the right hip or leg area, so then the radiologist will focus on that side while reading.
Now I know what my non-radiology followers are thinking. âAce, this sounds like bullshit. This canât be true. Youâre lying through your teeth.â But I swear to you, it is 100% accurate. I have seen a positive Throckmortonâs Sign multiple times with my own eyes over the course of the past 7 years. Ask any x-ray tech, and they will probably agree with me.
Your dick is good for at least one thing, and that thing is helping a radiologist diagnose your upper femur, hip, or pelvic fracture.
This had been a PSA.
holy fucking shit

wow!
disabled women of color are capable and deserve to be recognized and respected
iâve been doing my homework on how to break into a writing career and honestly. thereâs a Lot that i didnât know about thats critical to a writing career in this day and age, and on the one hand, its understandable because weâre experiencing a massive cultural shift, but on the other hand, writers who do not have formal training in school or donât have the connections to learn more via social osmosis end up extremely out of loop and working at a disadvantage.Â
like, i didnt know about twitter pitch parties!! i didnt know about literary agents and publishers tweeting their manuscript wishlist, in hopes that some poor soul out there has written the book they really want to read and publish!! this isnt some shit you learn about in school! you really need to know the ins and outs of the writing community to be successful!Â
for anyone interested, hereâs what iâve learned so far in my quest for more writing knowledge:
1. Writerâs Market 2019 is a great place to startâ it gives you a list of magazines and journals that you can send your work to depending on the genre as well as lists a shit ton of literary agents that specify what genres they represent, how you can get in contact with them and how they accept query letters. this is a book that updates every year and tbh i only bought it this year so i dont know how critical it is to have an updated version Â
2. do your research. mostly on literary agents because if you listed on your site that you like to represent fluffy YA novels and some asshole sends you a 80k manuscript about likeâŚgritty viking culture, you will be severely pissed off. always go in finding someone who you know will actually like your work because theyâre the ones who will try to advocate for you in getting published.
3. learn how to write a query letter. there are slightly varying formulas to how you can write an effective query letter. youâre also going to want to get feedback on your query letter because its the first thing the literary agent will read and based on how well you do it, it could be the difference between them rejecting you outright and giving your manuscript a quick read
4. unfortunately, youâre gonna want to get a twitter. Twitter is where a lot of literary agents are nowadays, and they host things like twitter pitch parties, where you pitch your manuscript in a few sentences and hashtag it with #Pitmad #Pitdark, some version of pit. a lot of literary agents and publishers will ALSO post their manuscript wishlists, which is just the kind of books theyâd like to represent/publish, and they hashtag this with #MSWL (it is NOT for writers to use, only for agents/publishers)
5. connect with other writers, literary agents, publishers at book events. you will absolutely need the connections if you want to get ahead as a writer. thats just kind of the state of the world.
Important info is important -.-
UPDATE: so i just got signed by an agent bc of twitter pitch parties. for any aspiring writers, you dont HAVE to go the twitter pitch party route, its just another way to get noticed a bit fasterÂ
Rebloging for my own benefit, but anyone else who wants to be a writer needs to know this too.

reblog to save a life
now this is why they should bring back home ec. we dumbasses dive into college and the so-called âreal worldâ with no knowledge of this stuff, only knowing how to find the square root of x divided by a donkeyâs left testicle
Okay, but THIS.
My therapist only recently understood that when I said, âI donât know how to make this phone call or make this appointment.â I very literally meant I didnât know what to do. I can dial the phone, but what do I say EXACTLY? What questions are going to be asked? What do I need to have on hand? What if they ask me something I donât know the answer to?
Iâm one of those people that needs very specific and detailed instructions if Iâm doing something for the first time.
Be patient with people. We all have our struggles. Sometimes it can make all the difference in the world knowing someone can spare a few minutes to care about you and walk you through something thatâs hard for you.
HOW TO MAKE AN IMPORTANT ADULT CALLÂ
FOR THE FIRST TIME
From an adult who has been doing this for about a decade now:Â
Remember that about 10% of any officeâs weekly call volume is from people just like you who have never done this in their life.Â
The mass majority of people who run dentist offices, insurance claim call centers, whatever - remember what itâs like to be completely new, and are generally happy to explain the steps and re-phrase themselves if you let them know what youâre having trouble with, and are kind and patient with them.Â
Youâre not inconveniencing them. Youâre not burdening them. Call center folks are 1000x happier to speak with someone who is earnestly trying and needs some basic help on super simple things, instead of a pissy long-time customer who demands free shit.Â
You are a bright spot in their day. A chance to actually help.Â
So! Hereâs the steps:Â
