I aim to misbehave

Steve never knew being in love could feel this good. He thought he had it with Nancy, but this isn’t even close. It’s the small touches, the inside jokes he and Eddie share the giddy rush of just being near each other. He misses Eddie when he’s not around and always searching for him in a crowded room. Now they’re lying in bed together. They agreed it’s better to share just in case the nightmares come back. And Eddie’s fingers find Steve’s without thinking about it. He laces them together and stares at their joined hands like they might disappear if he blinks. Steve’s thumb brushes against Eddie’s catching on his rings and Eddie’s breath hitches.

It’s the summer after Steve graduates he’s freshly 18. Corroded Coffin’s blowing up and booking all over the place and Steve’s dad somehow manages them and he’s all business, hates the music but “it’s what’s popular”. Steve’s mom thinks Steve’s needs to get out of the house and wants him to watch his dad too but she floats the idea to let Steve tag along on the summer tour. “It could be good for him.” She had told him and Steve’s dad is Horrified. “Absolutely not.” Dad makes it clear from the start steve doesn’t talk to the band. Especially not Munson who’s a little older and usually is flirty with other men. Eddie hates his manager. Figures the fastest way to get dropped and signed to someone who isn’t so sketchy to piss him off. And decided flirting with his uptight manager’s son.

Eddie shifts closer, head coming to rest on Steve’s chest. His voice goes quiet and says “I… sleep better when you’re around.”
