I think it really says a lot when people say "fandom is supposed to be fun" and roll their eyes when racism is being brought up because they see it as a nothing burger. I think it really says a lot when the extremely valid complaints and concerns from fans of color are grouped with other unnecessary fandom drama and swept aside. I think it really says a lot when people think fans of color being angry are being aggressive and are ruining the fandom experience. I think it really says a lot that fans of color notice this pattern of behavior and are always told "it's not that deep."
its crazy that megan thee stallion is not considered a queer artist by some people. the woman is not shy about the fact that she finds women attractive and likes having sex with them. she references it pretty frequently in her music, she made a whole song about enjoying having threesomes with a woman and a man, she made a Jennifer's Body-themed music video, she had Victoria Monét full riding her thigh on stage at a coachella, and there's literally a video of a lesbian interviewing glorilla at a party & asking who she would date if she was queer and her immediate response is "megan. megan like girls!" and then megan turns around and immediately starts flirting with the interviewer. i don't know what more you want. that woman is Bi Sexual and we should all be thankful every day for that. bi women are still bi when they wanna fuck men too you know. the fucking of men is also done bisexually.

Here me out Bylers... a Byler AU based on the musical Lizard Boy which is literally "Gay Boy With Self Esteem Issues and Superpowers" the musical. Check out my post HERE for a bit more info on Lizard Boy because it's a stellar musical and the soundtrack is superb.
My pitch for this AU...
Will Byers is a normal young adult. He likes comic books, he likes Dungeon and Dragons, and he likes listening to music... the only thing that separates him from his peers is he's gay. Well... he's gay and he's covered head to toe in weird lizard-like scales after a run in with a strange dragon-like monster in his youth. But that's not that big of a deal, right?
Anyway, Will keeps himself holed up at home, unwilling to be outside when he looks as odd as he does, is as weird as he is in general. But on a whim, desperate for connection, he puts out a classified ad in a queer-oriented newspaper. He ends up getting called by a man named Mike, who invites him over and seems awful excited to have him swing by. So Will does, panics when he realizes immediately that Mike is expecting something far more physical than what Will intended with his classified ad, and almost bolts. But Mike convinces him to stay and they become fast friends. Mike assumes the lizard scales are a weird costume, as it is Halloween and who is Mike to turn down a cute nerd in a cool costume... and the two set out to have something of a first date.
They visit a queer bar somewhere out of the way and watch a performer, a young woman with long brown hair and an enchanting voice. She seems to recognize Will, and reveals herself as someone he knew in his past named El, someone also at the incident involving the dragon-like monster. It turns out they were both doused in some of it's blood after it was killed (in an incident now covered up by the United States government) developed a truly magnetic singing voice that works to control people to her whims, to an extent.
Will is eager to have someone who seems to understand this traumatizing event, but their hopes for friendship are shattered as El reveals that the creature that was killed when they were kids is coming back. And Will can either join her and use his powers to help save the world or she can kill him and take his powers herself. But, Will tries to explain to her, he doesn't have powers, just weird lizard skin... so how much help can he even provide?
This turns out to be the wrong answer. As El swears she knows he has powers. She just knows.
Cue chaos. He runs off to deny El the chance to kill him and take whatever powers he lacks. Then in between avoiding El, he and Mike spend the day together and grow closer and closer, sharing a kiss. Mike tries to reassure Will that he doesn't mind the lizard scales, tells a story about being insecure after he broke his nose in his youth and had it heal crooked, then learned to accept it as a beautiful part of himself, but Will doesn't find the comparison between lizard scales and a broken nose all that apt. They fall for each other further, but after a misunderstanding Will panics and runs off, sure that Mike cannot actually love him because of his abnormalities.
Mike ends up kidnapped by El after this, her powers being used to puppet him into calling Will to draw him over to the nearby forest. And Will comes, though he's prepared, having realized something about Mike was off. In the process of heading to the forest to save Mike, Will realizes he does have powers after a revelation involving finally accepting himself as he is and realizing Mike was being earnest in his love for him despite the scales.
Will and El battle, Will to protect Mike, El to get Will to join her in her fight against true evil. Mike ends up hurt, but manages to survive due to a latent power stored in Will's blood. And Will realizes El is telling the truth, agreeing to join her in her fight. Then BOOM. Evil unleashes. And the newly formed trio have to figure out how to defeat the monsters now invading their city.

Her singing about the tragic incident in her youth and how she truly just wants to save the world, to keep others safe. And she's so lonely. Has been since she was a kid. But she has to prioritize saving everyone over her wish for companionship, or even her wish to just live a safe, normal life. Also her in the outfit... the fur coat, the fingerless gloves, the red outfit in it's entirety.
Or imagine this but Byler...
Them realizing they're connecting and Will internally panicking as he starts to feel safe and seen... Mike and him navigating this new territory together, feeling the attraction bloom alongside just the deep sense of friendship.
Or the three of them...
El trying to convince Will that he can be something, that he can be a hero and live without fear or shame. Will overwhelmed with the thought of stepping out into the world at large, worried of the backlash he's sure will happen.

Together they run into Siren, a gorgeous woman who used to know Trevor, who claims she (and Trevor) have superpowers due to the incident with the dragon all those years ago. She gives him two options. Trevor can join her to fight an incoming dragon apocalypse... or Trevor can die to pass on his powers to her.
