as if something about eliot puts him at ease, as if 1. eliot’s very meanness, his untouchability, his affected distance, and ALSO the degree to which he lets that stuff SLIP a little bit around quentin, makes quentin more able to joke and squabble and relax, and 2. eliot’s unabashed flirtation makes quentin feel like maybe i AM physically sexy, maybe i can live here in my body and enjoy this, how nice for me, and also 3. makes quentin aware of the KINSHIP between himself and this person he admires so much, viz., that they are both sentimental weirdo nerds who want/need to live in a different world than the one they live in, the major difference being that eliot creates a character with his external presentation and forces the world to react to that character, whereas q lives in a world in his head, my point being like, loving eliot makes quentin hate himself less, and vice versa, QED they are kindred spirits who appreciate each other and make each other happy and their coping mechanism should be tenderly holding each other and speaking truthfully about their feelings instead of [literally everything else they do]. also quentin has known he is bi since he was like 15. thanks for coming to my TED talk
