Haven’t written in a long time, but an idea came to me so here it is! Hope everyone that reads enjoys!
It’s as if the whole world had started to close in around her, her trembling hands reached for the collar of her dress. Pulling at it lightly as if that would allow more air into her lungs, she breathed deeply but it wasn’t enough. She glanced around at the many intergalactic species settling in to their own nooks, as if nothing was out of place as if nothing had happened.
Almost as if on cue a fly away hair nestled on her cheek. Brows furrowed as she swats at it, but it does nothing because it settles once more. She takes it between her fingers and tries to tuck it into one of the pins that holds her hair back. She figures it’s gone because it doesn’t come back and she hears the patter of shoes against the floor.
Her heart beats quicker, as she turns. In walks her husband, surprise on his face when his eyes land on her. She forces a smile to her lips as he walks over, even as he stands before her taking her hand in his she’s still looking at the clone standing in the doorway. Eyes trailing his dark armour before turning as heat travels up her face and to her ears. Her heart skips as she spins around as her husbands kiss her knuckles.
“You’re here early, darling” he states as he takes his seat next to her “I’m quite pleased, maybe you are taking a liking to my job” she forces a chuckle but it comes out more like a strangled sigh before turning back to the clone behind her, eyes on the helmet and she could feel his eyes behind the mask met hers. She smiles before tuning back around as the senate meeting starts.
Crosshair found himself watching her. She shifts in her seat, he assumes her legs had grown restless. Her hand would swat at some invisible bug before she’d settle with tense shoulders. Something is bugging her he notes and if he could he’d fix it for her he would. He’d swat at that invisible bug until it left her alone, he’d whisper encouraging words to let her know she’s doing a good job and that this meeting would be over soon and he’d walk her back to the ship and take her home.
She feels his eyes on her and it settles the nerves in her. So much so that her eyes lids feel heavy, her head begins to lull and she swears if this dress wasn’t constricted her breath she’d fall asleep. In moments like this where her mind is able to wonder she thought of him. All nights he stood watch even when he didn’t have to and all the days spent with him as her guard when he wasn’t out on missions for her husband.
A line had been drawn one they both stood on, each side held a different path. A few times they teetered on that line with the subtle touches, the longing glances from across the room, and conversations that went on and on. She knows she can’t act on anything but her heart beats a rhythm in her chest that she can’t ignore. She looks for him every time in every room and her eyes don’t stop searching until they land on him, and she’s able to breathe again.
It’s all falling apart, even as the fly away returns and lands on her nose and with each breath she takes it tickles her nose. She reaches for it once more but her breath catches in her throat as her wrist is caught in her husbands grip, his hold tight. She glares over at him, his eyes icy and his jaw clenched. Just behind her she hears a subtle shuffle of feet but her eyes never leave Ramparts.
“What are you doing?” He asks lowly, slowly lowering her hand “nothing” she answers as she tries to pull her wrist from his but he doesn’t let go “then stop doing that” he growls as his grip begins to loosen and she’s able to free herself
“I’m uncomfortable” she finally admits and then he turns back to her, his eyes harden as he leans closer a forced smile plastered on his face “then get comfortable” he demands and her eyes widened in disbelief but the silence that settles sets her heart hammering, her hands begin to shake as she tears her eyes away from him.
Her bottom lip begins to tremble, her eyes stinging with unshed tears. He’s never been this way towards her. Even when she tries to think back to a time when things were better between them he’s never held her the way he just had. Her hands raise once more to the collar of her dress and she tugs it before standing. He catches her wrist once more but she rips it from his grasp. Her hands come together to prevent the fidget but it doesn’t help. Her nails dig into her skin as she marches from the nook. She hears two voice behind her but doesn’t stop to listen as she storms towards the elevator.
Her finger jabs the button, hands pulling at the collar and she remembers where she is. Many eyes that could spread gossip about her and her husband. She straightens, hands neatly fold in front of her as she reminds herself to breath but it’s trapped so it’s not really a deep breath just short ones. Her head spins like she might pass out but she holds steady. She can’t believe he said that to her. As if being with him had been easy these past few months as if trying to find the familiar man she married had been easy. It wasn’t an act, the veil lifted to reveal the truth of the man she spent years with.
“Cyar’ika” Crosshair’s low tone startles her but she doesn’t look back to him as she jabs the elevator button once more “you need to breathe” there is worry laced in his words
“How- I - I can’t” she struggles out, voice wobbles as if tears are already free falling from her eyes but she’s able to keep those at bay despite the sting in her eyes
Once inside the elevator, she leans against the side. Hands clawing her dress and Crosshairs eyes never leave her. He reaches out but stops short and their back on that line they drew. Knowing the consequences of what would happen if they did teeter on to this unknown path, a pondering thought of is it worth it? Lingers in their minds. He can see she needs him, see in her eyes that she’s falling apart. He lets his hand fall as the elevator dings and the moment is gone.
She’s walks at a brisk pace not wanting to call attention to herself. The smog of the city hits her face and the smell of the city sets her on edge. She wants to go back to Kamino, wants the familiar sent of rain and sea salt. She didn’t mean to become so accustomed to it, she wasn’t meant to be there this long but it’s become a home to her.
Once her foot passes from floor to the steel of the ramp she’s really tearing at the collar now, hands pulling at the lace on her back as best she can. She wants out, she wants to forget this place, these people, but most of all she wants feel safe.
“Crosshair” she pleads as she spins back around and he’s stood there, hands pulling his helmet off his head and her breath catches at the worry etching into this face “get me out of this” he discarded his helmet onto the floor his strides are long and he’s standing right in front of her
“Turn around” he orders, her brows furrow but she listens, trusting him “how attached to this dress are you?” His fingers brush against her shoulders and all she can do is shake her head as a whine slips past her lips and within seconds the sound of fabric tearing fills the small cabin and her lungs greedily gulp down air
Crosshair starts to unlace the corset but it’s tedious, she’s needs more air. So he cuts the laces and rips it open, her bare back tenses before she’s leans down. Her hand catches the loose fabric at her chest so as not to be exposed. He lifts a gloved hand to her back, her body relaxing against his touch but then begins to shake with sobs. He’s not sure what to do and every fibre of his begin is screaming at him to hold her. So he does. Consequences be damned, she needs him, needs him to ground her back to reality.
She spins around, nestling herself into him. Her warm cheek against the cool plastron that covers his chest. Her hands resting around his side as she listens to the thumping of his heart, she breathes when he does. She opens her eyes and slowly lifts from him and forces herself to look up at him. He meets her gaze, something twinkles in her eyes and he aware of the way her eyes flash to his lips. He moves his right hand to cup her cheek, she leans into his touch.
“You’re too good to me” her voice thick from her sobs, her tear stained cheeks makes his heart ache. Flashes of the memories they’ve made in the past months hit him like a blaster bolt to his heart. He didn’t mean for any of this to happen, didn’t mean to feel this ache in his heart when she’s near and when she’s not. It wasn’t meant to happen but it has and they’ve crossed the line. He couldn’t go back, not when he knows now, how she fits so perfectly against him.
“I’ll follow you anywhere” he leans down as she lifts to the tip of her toes, noses brushing, breath mingling together “kiss me” she pleads and he groans as he claims her lips with his own, her hands pull him closer as his hands tangle in the torn fabric
The kiss is slow but the passion is there. She hasn’t felt like this before, wanting, needing, hoping for someone that she couldn’t have. The fire inside her blazes brighter and grows more wild as he deepens the kiss, his tongue darts out and her mouth opens. She loses herself to his taste, to the grip he now has on her waist and she sinks into him. He’s pushing her back against the wall and presses himself into her and she pulls back from his lips
“Crosshair” she pants, her eyes on his swollen lips and dazed eyes “I-We…” she’s married, she shouldn’t but god she wants too “I know” he whispers but leans down again, his lips ghosting over hers and she leans closer wanting to feel his lips pressed against her again but he pulls back
“You have extra clothes?” The question reminds her of the state her attire is in at the moment and she shakes her head “everything is back in the room, I wasn’t thinking to go back there” she pulls her torn dress up “I just wanted to get home” she shrugs as he nods “I’ll go” he leans down, his lips press against her forehead before going to retrieve his helmet and glances once more at her
“Close the ramp, I’ll let myself in when I get back” he tells her before leaving her.
