Hey! I'm really glad you want to do your research, it is heartwarming to know the newbies out there actually want to study the theory.

I think The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir is probably one of the most important and complete books in the path to understanding Radical Feminism. It is also super long and daunting, so while I do think it should be a read-in-progress for all of us, I think it's important to have more "beginner friendly" books, in order to avoid burn out. I've been into radical feminism since 2017 now, and I'm not a great reader, so for those of us who find it hard to focus for too long, I think Andrea Dworkin is also a good place to start. Her books are filled with rage – and important analysis. I find her language easier to keep up with, more approachable if you will. Woman Hating was my first [pdf]. You can find all of her other works [here] as well.

The book that made me want to really read more and get educated is honestly A Politically Incorrect Feminist: Creating a Movement with Bitches, Lunatics, Dykes, Prodigies, Warriors, and Wonder Women, by Phyllis Chesler. It's an autobiography, and gives some great insight on what it was like to be involved directly in the Second Wave, and also why sisterhood is powerful and needed, but also not easy to achieve. It gave me hope, and helped me to see radical feminism in a new refreshed light. You can get the audiobook for free as an [Audible trial].

Okay so now I flooded you with reading material... What next? How do you even get started, how do you tackle this?

I think first of all it's really important to find community. There are discord servers out there for radical feminists and gender critical women, communities which are open to you, and were made for women just like you. Surround yourself with women, build yourself up with them. Don't just say your politics are woman centric, but actually make your life woman centric. And read up. Study. Trade notes, ask questions, question... Everything. Be critical. Not just of your past beliefs, but of this new information. Where is it coming from? Who wrote it? What do they gain from it? Who loses if they win?

Be aware that radical feminism is a political movement. It can be heavy. Unfortunately, we deal with the knowledge that the world is ugly, especially ugly towards women. Part of radical feminism is addressing borrow such as human trafficking, pedophilia, incest, and the likes. Have positive things to balance this out, take breaks, take your time. Work against overwhelming yourself. You can do this.

Apply the same kindness you'd offer other women to yourself, and treat yourself with respect. Reach out! To me, to others. We're here for you. We have space for you. We'll make time, we'll try our best. I just spent an hour finding these links for you. Not because you owe me anything, or vice versa. But because I care that you have a good experience of it. We are stronger together.

physicians blew the whistle on England's Tavistock Centre years ago. This is the first article I've seen by an American whistleblower—from a hospital in Missouri— so it's incredibly important. by the way, the author, Jamie Reed, is a hard leftist and married to a trans man. It's hard to claim she's a transphobe.

Here are some quotes.

To begin transitioning, the girls needed a letter of support from a therapist—usually one we recommended—who they had to see only once or twice for the green light. To make it more efficient for the therapists, we offered them a template for how to write a letter in support of transition. The next stop was a single visit to the endocrinologist for a testosterone prescription. That’s all it took. 

The center downplayed the negative consequences, and emphasized the need for transition. As the center’s website said, “Left untreated, gender dysphoria has any number of consequences, from self-harm to suicide. But when you take away the gender dysphoria by allowing a child to be who he or she is, we’re noticing that goes away. The studies we have show these kids often wind up functioning psychosocially as well as or better than their peers.” There are no reliable studies showing this. Indeed, the experiences of many of the center’s patients prove how false these assertions are. 

How little patients understood what they were getting into was illustrated by a call we received at the center in 2020 from a 17-year-old biological female patient who was on testosterone. She said she was bleeding from the vagina. In less than an hour she had soaked through an extra heavy pad, her jeans, and a towel she had wrapped around her waist. The nurse at the center told her to go to the emergency room right away. We found out later this girl had had intercourse, and because testosterone thins the vaginal tissues, her vaginal canal had ripped open. She had to be sedated and given surgery to repair the damage. She wasn’t the only vaginal laceration case we heard about.  I counseled one patient whose enlarged clitoris now extended below her vulva, and it chafed and rubbed painfully in her jeans. I advised her to get the kind of compression undergarments worn by biological men who dress to pass as female. At the end of the call I thought to myself, “Wow, we hurt this kid.” 

One teenager came to us in the summer of 2022 when he was 17 years old and living in a lockdown facility because he had been sexually abusing dogs. He’d had an awful childhood: His mother was a drug addict, his father was imprisoned, and he grew up in foster care. Whatever treatment he may have been getting, it wasn’t working.  During our intake I learned from another caseworker that when he got out, he planned to reoffend because he believed the dogs had willingly submitted. Somewhere along the way, he expressed a desire to become female, so he ended up being seen at our center. From there, he went to a psychologist at the hospital who was known to approve virtually everyone seeking transition. Then our doctor recommended feminizing hormones. At the time, I wondered if this was being done as a form of chemical castration. 

i had thee absolute top surgeon in my state and it was still a lie. i did everything he said and my recovery was “perfect” and it was still a lie.

it’s not “haters” who are “jealous” of you saying you’re scheduling your buccal fat removal surgery. it’s a not-insignificant number of women like me who fell for that shit and yknow what, now i AM jealous of you, ironically, bc you haven’t yet gone through with it. cuz you still have your own wonderful natural face and you have the option to decide not to be stupid and jeopardize it. you think you know now but you unfortunately don’t until it happens, until your face begins to cave in on itself, until you’re told that you now “need” xyz procedures to support the cheeks you just sucked out etc etc it never ends it never fucking ends you will never be satisfied and you can’t ever undo it

i have this unfortunate insider knowledge of at least 4 different major invasive cosmetic procedures and i regret every single one. they ruined my life in every conceivable way (even though i was considered a major success patient) and one surgery literally almost killed me. i thought i was so damn smart and resilient until i realized i can’t ever go back.

i will summarize as best i can. please bear with me as it’s a lot of info and i’m on mobile.

The little girls painted, played dress up, cooked dinner and sat around the table together to eat. They made a cleaning list of who did what chores. They picked up after themselves when they made a mess. When one of them hurt another girls feelings they comforted her and had a conversation about it. They laughed, they baked cakes, they made a catwalk and fashion show. Some of the girls made a beauty salon. They choreographed dances and told scary stories. They formed bonds and showed their capacity for forgiveness and humanity.

The little boys immediately trashed the house. They drew on the walls with whatever they could find. They broke all the furniture and didn’t cook a single meal even though the kids were required to take a cooking course before the experiment. Instead they lived on dry cereal and soda. The boys eventually spit into two gangs, one was rowdier than the other. They teamed up against the “weaker weird” boy and made him feel unwanted. When they got bored they decided to quote “trash the rest of the place.” They acted like savages, cavemen. No social skills, no creativity, no empathy for one another. They didn’t have any activities that didn’t involve destruction, violence, or vandalism. They showed no humanity.

We actually are pretty clear that genital mutilation doesn’t change that persons sex. Like it’s a pretty well-known stance of ours.

Obviously people who suffer those DSDs are not some sort of different third fourth or fifth sex. But if they were, mutilating their genitalia wouldn’t change that fact.

when they have never taken it in it’s full context and choose to only acknowledge the part that satisfies their need to defend depp.

this is the full context of the tape. she literally says she feared for her life. why would she say that to johnny if they both knew it was a lie?

the whole reason she says the whole “tell the world” bit (also consider she never actually says “a man” , she says “man” and that is easily heard if you listen to the tape), is because she was shocked that the man who had spent the last 4 years abusing her, would turn around and say that she was the abuser.

she was shocked that he would call it all a fair fight because he lost his finger (which notice he doesn’t say anything about her cutting his finger off. weird since his excuse for not saying amber did it was “protecting her.” why would he need to protect her, to her?)

she couldn’t believe that anyone in the world would believe he was the victim when she had evidence stemming back years and couldn’t believe that he would even think about saying he was the victim.

conveniently, i never see depp defenders mention any of this. they see the “tell the world” bit and go blind. blatantly doing exactly what adam waldman wanted with his smear campaign.

Depp has already been found guilty of abusing amber in the uk. 12/14 allegations of depp abusing amber were proven to the civil standard UK. (in the UK the burden of proof lies upon the accuser, meaning amber's team had enough evidence to prove 12 accounts of abuse)

Depps own witness (his and amber's marriage counselor) saw bruises on amber in person.

Once sperated Depp promised amber would receive “total global humiliation”, and said “i have no mercy fear or emotion for this gold-digging, low-level, dime-a-dozen, mushy, pointless dangling overused flappy fish market.”

Depp has constantly denied being on drugs throughout their marriage, lying on the stand.

Depp also groomed Winona Ryder, who he dated when she was 17 and he was 25. (she may still defend him but that doesn't make it okay)

Depp has been friends with Marilyn Manson for well over 20 years, he is the the God father to depps first born child (Lily rose)

Depp defended Roman Polanski after he was charged with raping a 13 year old

Depp payed his ex girlfriend & mother of his children $100mill to ”keep their seperation amicable” and called her ”cunt”, the mother of his children.

this is not a legal proceeding initiated by AH. it was initiated by Johnny Depp.  it is not the first proceeding initiated by Johnny Depp. 

once a victim ends a relationship and cuts off contact with an abuser, it is not uncommon for an abuser to use the legal system to continue to exert power and control over their victim. it’s called litigation abuse. 

in the most recent completed legal proceeding (Johnny Depp sued a british tabloid for defamation for referring to him as an abuser), the judicial officer determined that AH had proved at least 12 of 14 alleged incidents of abuse to a civil legal standard, making it perfectly appropriate for a news organization to refer to Johnny Depp as an abuser.

this is a defamation case, not a case about abuse. its about whether or not AH defamed Johnny Depp by writing an article about *her* experience as a public figure associated with domestic violence, an article that did not mention Johnny Depp by name.

interestingly, this defamation case was NOT filed in California, the state where AH and Johnny Depp lived during their relationship, and was NOT filed in DC, where the WaPo, the publication that published AH’s article, is based. it was filed in the state of virginia.

you might be asking yourself why virginia, of all places?  well, it’s legal strategy from depp’s team. it’s because of the different laws in virginia. virginia has a comparatively weak anti-SLAPP law (a law that protects people from civil litigation for exercising their first amendment rights), & does not consider verbal abuse to be included in “family abuse” aka domestic violence thus mitigating some of the horrendous things that Depp’s put in writing to and about AH.

“mutual abuse”

because this trial is about defamation, not domestic violence, there has been a significant lack of expert testimony about domestic violence. let me just tell you a few things about the concept of mutual abuse.

in california, it is possible for two people to get restraining orders against each other if they have both committed acts of domestic abuse. HOWEVER, this type of legal outcome is heavily regulated because the legislature and judicial system understand that true cases of “mutual abuse” are exceedingly rare.  therefore, california law requires that a judicial officer make “detailed findings of fact indicating that both parties acted primarily as aggressors and that neither party acted primarily in self-defense”. 

in making this determination, caselaw directs judicial officers to consider the entire history of abuse in a relationship, rather than taking each incident as a single isolated event. this is because, say after 6 months of being choked, threatened with death, and having objects thrown at your head, when a drunk angry partner comes towards you, hitting them first, in and of itself, does not make you the primary aggressor. it is considered “reactive” violence, done in self defense, and can only be evaluated in taking the entire history of abuse in the relationship into account.

the fact that one party was injured during an altercation, in and of itself, does not make the injured party the victim and the injury inflicting party the primary aggressor. this is based on long established legal principals that a victim of physical aggression can employ reasonable physical force to defend themselves, even if that application of force results in injury to the aggressor

that AH admitted to striking Johnny Depp, in and of itself, does not legally mean that AH is “equally guilty” of domestic abuse, does not mean that she is not a victim of domestic abuse, and does not negate that Johnny Depp was the primary aggressor throughout the relationship

a few other notes:

johnny depp is not captain jack sparrow, edward scissorhands, or any other famous character you love. he is an almost 60 year old man with a documented history of frivolous litigation, alcohol and drug abuse, and physically violent outbursts dating back decades.

johnny depp is a cisgender heterosexual male, a multi-millionaire, a well established actor, and was in his 50s when he married a bisexual woman, an up-and-coming actress 20 years his junior.  there is an ENORMOUS power differential here.  which is not to say that it is inherently abusive, but it is context that needs to be part of the discussion.

petty but whatever, AH’s lawyer never said she used that specific makeup product brand to cover her bruises. AH’s lawyer said she used a product that did color correction, like that makeup product brand has, holding up their product for visual emphasis in the courtroom. it’s not evidence of any kind of lie and it’s extremely bad faith on that makeup brand’s part to insinuate otherwise

that lady who diagnosed AH, claimed she doesn’t have PTSD, and claimed that she has histrionic personality disorder and BPD, is NOT a board certified mental health professional, was hired by Depp’s legal team, AFTER drinking with Depp’s legal team, is paid by Depp’s legal team, and spent less than 12 hours evaluating AH in person. Not a credible reputable source of impartial, science-based evidence.

Hey anon! I'm going to try to take this ask in good faith, but please know that assuming things ("do you only believe her because you don't believe men can be victims?") is rude - and unnecessary considering the content on my blog easily disproves it. It's simple really:

I do believe men can be victims.

I don't believe Johnny Depp is a victim of domestic abuse at the hands of Amber Heard.

You state that there is "so much evidence" to prove that she is abusive, but here's the kicker: there isn't. The piece that is most often cited as "evidence" is a heavily edited audio clip from Amber and Depp's marital therapy sessions, that was leaked by the Daily Mail. In this clip, Amber is heard saying that she slapped Depp (open palm) to which he argues that it was a closed-fist punch.

When the entirety of the recording was later released (don't remember to which site but I believe it was used in the most recent trial, which Depp lost) it was revealed that Depp headbutted Amber, making her nose bleed - she initially thought it was broken - and she struck him in self defense.

Now, another misconception is that Amber severed Depp's finger during a fight in which she threw a broken vodka bottle at him. This. Is. False. (Or at least very likely to be as I'll explain now). When the incident occured in 2017, Depp repeatedly stated that he cut his own finger. He said this unprompted, to several people, including ones who he would have no reason to lie to (e.g. his good friend Paul Bettany who has always harbored a strong dislike of Amber) and his personal doctor. The evidence (text messages, emails, etc) is currently being reviewed during the ongoing trial and can be found in the transcripts of Depp's witness testimonials as well as reputable news sites. Additionally, according to this excerpt from court documents, Depp's lawyer orchestrated a smear campaign to try to ruin Amber's reputation and credibility. Judging by the sheer amount of Depp supporters floating around the internet, it was successful.

There are also allegations that Amber abused her former partner, Tasya van Ree. However, Tasya herself has come forth and said these were entirely false, and were based in homophobia and misogyny. In the same statement, she went on to describe Amber as "brilliant, honest and beautiful woman and I [Tasya] have the utmost respect for her." (source)

Finally, most recently, makeup brand Milano accused Amber of lying of using their product to cover up her bruises. They stated, through a TikTok with questionable grammar, that the palette hadn't been released until 2017, a year after the allegations of DV. The ethics of the TikTok in question aside, it's... simply not true? Poplar makeup magazine Glamour UK included the product in question in an article from June 3rd 2016. Plus, the brand of the palette used in court was never mentioned, and it was stated to be a prop, not the actual item Amber used.

So, now that we have cleared the rumors about Amber's supposed dishonesty, let's talk about the fact that Depp is a violent and abusive person - and has been proved, with evidence.

This article by the Irish Examiner goes in-depth about Depp's libel trial against the Sun (a tabloid that referred to him as a "wife-beater" which he contested). It examines the 14 cases of alleged violence - 12 of which were confirmed, and 2 of which were declared likely but lacking sufficient evidence to be confirmed. These date back to as early as 2013.

Let me say that again.

Johnny Depp beat and abused Amber Heard. This isn't "conjecture" or slander - a judge ruled him as a wife-beater based on actual evidence.

I would highly encourage everyone to read this article. It's horrifying and eye-opening.

Last but not least, please remember to take everything Depp's friends say with a whole ocean-full of salt. Case in point, Paul Bettany?

Christie Dembrowski:

She claimed that Johnny Depp was a shy, quiet boy. Christie said she was also shy and quiet, so she wasn’t abused that much by their mother as Depp was. And it doesn’t make any sense.

Christie is ON DEPP’S PAYROLL.

She also claimed that Depp didn’t have any addictions, Depp only had problems with pain medication. However, Dr Kipper sent Christie an email updates about Johnny Depp’s detox treatment. Hence she lied about not knowing about it.

Christie also sent text messages to Johnny Depp. Her answer was: I don’t remember the context of the messages, and that’s life.

To other stuff, she said: I DON’T RECALL.

Isaac Baruch:

Isaac lived in Johnny Depp’s penthouse FOR FREE.

He also claimed that Depp gave him 100k over the years.

Baruch tells jurors he never saw Heard and Depp get in physical altercations. He says he only heard them argue twice, once over the phone.

Baruch SAW wine stains and broken glass on the floor after May incident in 2016.

Baruch says, when speaking with Heard, she did not have any bruises, swelling or red marks on her body. But Baruch tells jurors he doesn’t know Heard’s regular makeup routine, and cannot say with absolute certainty that she was not wearing makeup when he saw her.

Bredehoft: Do you recall Mr. Depp ever telling you that he hoped that Amber’s rotting corpse is rotting in the fucking trunk of a Honda Civic? Baruch: Yeah, I’m seeing it here [on the texts]. So obviously it was written.

Brandon Patterson, general manager of the Eastern Columbia Building in LA:

He claimed he saw the footage of one female ‘’fake punching’‘ Amber Heard.  But also stated that FOOTAGE DOES NOT EXIST!!! Patterson doesn’t recall, when it happened!

Kate James:

Kate James was very rude to Amber Heard’s lawyer, BUT totally different towards Johnny Depp’s lawyer.

When asked if she had any real care about Heard’s wellbeing, James said, “No.”

Johnny Depp sent Kate James a text messages where he sid he wants to fix her flabby ass. James says she did meet with Depp, but that they did not drink red wine. She says she does not recall details saying, “It’s too long ago, Mr. Rottenborn. I don’t recall.”  Worth mentioning that Kate James during UK trial FORGOT about those text messages(court transcript, day 7, page 1221) .

Kate James claimed that Amber verbally abused her, screamed at her. But she doesn’t have any evidence of it and those text messages magically disappeared from ICloud(she stated that during UK trial)(court transcript, day 7, page 1232).In addition, she never mentioned in her witness statements that Amber spit on her, not once.

Remember how she claimed in her witness statement and during her cross examination that Amber Heard asked her if she knows how to fake documents about the dogs(taking them to Australia) and that Amber Heard stole her ‘’rape story’‘(court transcript, day 7, page 1230) . Well, SHE DIDN’T MENTION THEM ALL during VA trial.

Laurel Anderson, psychotherapy for couples:

No one hurt me anon, or well, those who did aren’t the ones who led me to my current beliefs

I grew up in a small suburban, midwest town that sat right next to open farmland. My family enrolled me in a Christian school I attended for 15 years. Meanwhile, any other social interaction was at a traditional evangelical church. They hurt me. They made me believe I needed to bleed the gay out of myself, or beat it out, or cry it out. Those scars are with me forever, but they didn’t lead me to my current beliefs

When I left my religious background and fully accepted myself as a homosexual, and the goodness of that love, I swung hard left. I spent my whole life fighting the urge to just accept myself and LGBT people. Now I was free to drown myself in queer theory, so I did

I joined an LGBTQIA+ organization, I even ended up a leader. I fully affirmed the gender identity of my friends and fellow members, even going so far as to affirm that heterosexual male members could be lesbians and needed special attention in the community. I identified as nonbinary after 20 years of HATING the idea of being “a man, ” and a growing discomfort with my male body

When cotton ceiling rhetoric came into my life though several “gay trans men” complaining about homosexuals being disinterested in the opposite sex, I ate it up. I talked with my friends about how there must be truth to their statements. There had to be something done. Gay men needed to change

So I went back to my roots

I spend a week back home, in the same house I beat myself in as a child, and just went back to beating. I spent hours reviewing photos, SFW and NSFW of trans men. Famous trans men. Everyday trans men. I pushed myself to look past my “prejudice against trans people.” I tried. I genuinely tried, anon. But nothing happened

I called my best friend, sobbing. I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t get me bigotry to go away. I begged him not to judge me. His only response was asking “WTF are you doing!? You’re literally doing what you did in high school!”

And I was

I was pushing and pushing, trying and failing to find sexual attraction to female persons. And why? Because they identified a certain way? Because they were more masculine than traditional female persons are portrayed? Because they were attempting to pass as male?

The queer community hurt me, anon. I don’t know how long those scars will last, but even if they do, they still aren’t why I believe the way I do today

Do you know what community was the ONLY group willing to support me fully in my sexuality? The only people who answered my question, “Can I just be attracted to the same sex…and never the opposite sex?”, with a resounding YES were gender critical lesbians

When I asked people if I could, morally, be a homosexual, the only people who supported me were lesbians

I read what they had to say, why they believed the way they did, and slowly I’ve come to believe what I do now:

-trans people deserve equal rights to housing, medical care, work, and all the other aspects of civil life which they are often barred from or given unequal access. Trans people deserve the same access to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness that I think all humans deserve

-Dysphoric people should be given full and accurate information about their options for living a complete and happy life. Some of these people will transition and they shouldn’t lose equal rights because of that

-Children, however, should not be given body altering medications which lack proper testing and which cannot be easily reversed. Not when these children cannot fully understand their situation, not when misogyny is a leading issue that’s failed to be addressed, not when so many of these GNC kids will be gay and castrated by the process, and not when there is such a high likelihood for these children to detransition later in life

-Sexuality functions on the basis of sex. Lesbians are female homosexuals. Gay men are male homosexuals. Homosexual means exclusively same-sex attracted, and as such, gay people are not compatible with members of the opposite sex, regardless of attempts to pass as the same sex, regardless of gender identity, and regardless of willingness to try and change (like my past self)

-Intersex people are not a third sex, or proof of a sex spectrum

-Female only spaces need to exist. Women are oppressed as a class based on their female sex

-Gay pride and the gay rights movement were started by and for homosexuals. Homophobia exists and functions because of hatred for same-sex love and the absence of opposite-sex attraction

-Etc.

If these are the beliefs that make me transphobic…I can’t care anymore. These beliefs were formed by critical thought, research, empathy, and time. They are not sticking to me simply because of past trauma

If someone is able to provide evidence that my beliefs are wrong, I will relent. That’s what happened when I became an advocate for queer ideology. And its what happened when I became gender critical

Hormone blockers are completely reversable because all they do is delay puberty, once you come off of them, you resume puberty as normal

 the nhs in fact recently changed their statement on puberty blockers being reversible because they have no idea whether it is or not because IT’S AN EXPERIMENT, NO ONE KNOWS

the main puberty blocker used is lupron, which is a chemotherapy drug that is being used off label for this stuff without any long term studies, and what little there is (from the little girls put on it for precocious puberty and women given it for female reproductive issues) shows it has a host of side effects from osteoporosis to juvenile arthritis to ruined immune system, vaginal atrophy and much more. it also, as this person says, prevents safe® and easy(ier) surgical transition in males, because the penis never grows so there’s not enough tissue to be used to invert into a neo-vagina. this has been recorded extensively during the programme “i am jazz”, where jazz has had to have his intestines used instead and has had at least three different surgeries because of the various severe complications.

another effect of puberty blockers is absence of libido. this is why the same drugs used as puberty blockers are used to chemically castrate sex offenders, because it is so effective in doing so. because puberty is when the sex drive develops, if one never goes through it, then they may never feel arousal or have an orgasm their entire life, especially if they get bottom surgery. this is what has happened with jazz and numerous other people like the person writing this post. how is that not a severe effect?

the fact that you think that you can halt one of the biggest physical processes in humans without effect, and that it’s completely reversible shows pure ignorance due to the dogmatic agenda of the people pushing it. puberty blocker MAY be reversible if a child stops taking them while they’re still adolescent, but that’s not guaranteed. and almost 100% of kids who start puberty blockers go on to further transition, while around 64-94% of dysphoric children who are left alone will grow out of dysphoria to be normal gay, lesbian, or bi adults. this means that children are being unnecessarily made lifelong medical patients, are you not concerned about that?

To me it feels pretty compatible with radfem theory, but on the other hand, most radfems don't think of trans people as the gender they id as/ are transitioning to. Would trans ideology be more or less compatible with radical feminism if more trans ppl thought this way, in your mind?

I mean, that post is a lot of positioning and a lot of referring to gender as some floating, nebulous construct that just so happens to inflict humanity.

Versus, say, acknowledging it as a class system imposed by men onto women as a way to maintain superiority, as a means of resource control.

Gender wasn't plucked from the ether by an early Philospoher to make sense of structures that would have already been deeply ingrained in their world, as the post implies.

Gender was the first man in the agricultural revolution who thought "I need children to tend my land to succeed. What makes children? My female mate. Excellent. I must keep control over this resource."

And then that thought process gets extrapolated -

How do we keep the women from wandering? Don't let them go off and away. Bound them to me by contract. How do I connect myself and my neighbor peacefully so he doesn't invade my land? Sell him my daughter as a wife. She, too, is a resource I can trade. How do I keep my wife in the home and in my bed and raising my children? Well, I will tell her that is what she was put on earth to do. How do I ensure she cannot do business to sustain herself as I can? I will keep her from learning her numbers. How do I ensure she doesn't learn of women elsewhere doing exciting things? I will keep her illiterate. And I will do the next man a favor, and keep my daughters in the dark as well. This will make them sell better, anyways. And I can do all of this, because I am strong. If she resists this, I will beat her. And I will make the law, which she cannot write and she cannot read, that she cannot leave me. And I will make the law that she cannot ever hold office to change the law.
