The parts that hit hardest were the author's exploration of not wanting to reproduce queerphobic rhetoric in framing her abuse as abuse, and in how exiting the cycle of abuse feels fucking cliche and boring. One day you're managing complex psychodrama and engaging in all these high-level abstractions and the next you're blithely saying you were gaslit and hurt. It sucks to fully face that abuse is common and you're not special, that the special feeling of being The One to manage your abuser's behaviors was just another boring instance of fooling yourself.
