I hate that certain types of reality tv are entertaining to me. Turns out I'm a human who finds the same kind of bullshit compelling as other humans. I'll be ike "ha, I would never watch The Bachelor or Love At First Sight, they hold no interest to me" but that's just because I don't care about romantic relationships. Give me a show about revamping failing restaurants and I'm hooked. I've spent the last 3 days watching a guy help people in debt budget and learned nothing because the show is not about accounting, it's about a fed up man swearing at people for booking too many Disney trips. This is trash and I'm watching hours of it. I Am Not Immune.

"it's ok to show (x) in fiction as long as the bad guy gets punished!" the bad guy doesn't have to get punished. in fact the bad guy can win altogether. the bad guy can entirely get away with it. hope this helps

and this part might make some people's head explode but: characters can be written to forgive things you personally wouldn't ever forgive. not everything is written as what you'd perceive to be the right choice. not everything is a self-insert & protagonists don't have to be relatable.

the odyssey will never be adapted perfectly! it's too long, it's too dense, it's too long in scope, it's too contradictory. so much happens but also in another way almost nothing happens. the world it portrays is so foreign to us it's difficult to adapt the values and context needed to understand. you're never going to get it all onto a screen it just doesn't fit. and once you accept that it only deepens your appreciation of the original text and allows you to accept each adaptation for its own purposes and limitations

hearing that the trojan horse appears in nolan's odyssey as a representation of his part in the fall of bronze age civilization, and his greatest source of guilt that partially causes how hard it is for him to get home, and then seeing the movie studio make the horse into a popcorn bucket is like if they made a Little Boy popcorn bucket for fucking oppenheimer

so many "period" films come out but they always gotta have A-list celebrities and it's like. idk if you want to make something super atmospheric and immersive its hard for me to believe in what youre showing me when you have like. tom holland. im not gonna be like oh thats a guy from ancient greece im gonna be like Thats Tom Holland

Movie about a depressed and rather morbid autistic man planning to commit suicide and picking up a number of odd jobs in an effort to raise enough money to meticulously plan and prepay for his funeral so his mother doesn’t have to worry about it after he is gone. He begins to connect with people and enjoy life for the first time while working part time as a greeter in the funeral home, helping an eccentric old lady organize her basement, walking 7 dogs and maintaining a feral cat colony for a guy with a broken foot, playing a number of bit parts in local ads and stocking the shelves at the convenience store at night. In the end, he has befriended many of his neighbors and he decides he does not want to die and goes back to school to become a funeral director instead.

He is popular at his funeral home gig because he keeps accidentally saying things that are very reassuring and death positive. Because he wants to die. He eventually donates his funeral fund to the old lady’s granddaughter after her sudden death so she does not have to sell her grandmother’s prized possessions to pay for her funeral.

The old lady gifts him one of her ceramic cats at the beginning of the film which he reluctantly accepts out of politeness. Near the end of the film, he adopts a friendly cat from the cat colony that looks remarkably like the ceramic cat and names it after her, signaling his commitment to surviving and caring for his cat the way the old woman lived for her ceramic collection.
