DJ Confessing his Love to Reader (with the Help of Geoff and Duncan) ₊˚⊹♡
You were awoken to the sound of something tapping on your window. It was incredibly early, too early, and you found yourself tremendously drained from the strenuous nature of yesterday’s challenge. You experienced an overwhelmingly dreadful anticipation for waking up before you even fell asleep the night prior. Still half-asleep and completely dazed, you begrudgingly attempted to get up from your position on your bunk bed to see what caught your attention outside your window. There was nothing there. You were frustrated, though your curiosity was increasingly profound. Eager to see what could have possibly alerted you to wake up, you opened the front door of your shared cabin.
“Hey, dude! Did you see how totally awesome the sun looks right now?” Geoff boisterously exclaimed, emerging from your peripheral vision in a slightly suspicious yet innoxious manner.
“Oh, yeah. You should come down to the beach and get a real good view of it right now,” Duncan told you with a mischievous smirk taking over his face.
This caught you off guard in more ways than your tired mind could begin to fathom. Why were they awake so early, and how were they seemingly so lively as well, why did they both happen to meet you in the odd location of the front of your cabin, and why were they trying so hard for you to see the sunrise on the beach specifically? The eager pair continuously motioned for you in the direction of the beach, to your confusion. Skeptical, still overtired and unable to fully process the situation you were swept into, you found yourself inching closer towards the rather unassuming beach of Wawanakwa. There was a tall shadow in the distance, and your still somewhat clouded vision required additional time to focus. It was DJ. The absurdity of the situation was starting to become more sensible. You turned to alert Geoff and Duncan that you needed a moment to get dressed as you were still wearing your sleepwear, though they were nowhere to be found. You rushed back to your cabin to quickly make yourself feel presentable, still somewhat perplexed by the circumstances.
“Hey, (Y/N)! You look beautiful this morning.” DJ handed you a bouquet of a mixture of different flowers. It was certainly evident that the bouquet was homemade, but in a surprisingly beautiful way. It wasn’t put together elegantly, but it was notably assembled with heart behind it.
“For you! It was kind of hard finding flowers on the island, but I managed to find some deep in the woodsier area that I thought you would love,” DJ expressed with his nervousness quite obvious to you.
It seemed as if DJ didn’t realize that his friends had completely disturbed your rest, and you felt that it was better you didn’t inform him of this. He was so sweet, and his thoughtfulness touched you. The silliness of the entire ordeal brought you a peculiar sense of comfort.
DJ squinted, the rising sunlight shining directly into his eyes as he spoke. He blocked the sun’s overbearing light with his hand and awkwardly chuckled. You noticed him looking into your eyes when his hand successfully shaded his eyesight, attempting to observe if you, too, had been temporarily blinded by the sun. DJ positioned himself as a barrier between you and the sun to protect you from its rays.
“Is this better? I wanted you to be able to see the pretty sunrise! I don’t want it to hurt your eyes though.” DJ looked in your direction with a nervous though welcoming smile.
It took DJ a moment to gather his thoughts. You could tell he was anxious to speak to you, but his efforts to make you feel comfortable provided reassurance. The sound of leaves rustling and what almost sounded like shushed voices in the distance behind you piqued your curiosity. Opening his mouth to speak to you, DJ’s eyes suddenly darted with a slight look of concern emerging on his face. He sheepishly attempted to maintain your attention, assuring that he didn’t see anything alarming.
“I’ve never met someone so caring, smart, and thoughtful in the exceptional ways that you are. The honor of getting to know you has brought me so much happiness. I want you to know that I love you. I hope that I’ve made you feel the same way.”
Although DJ was experiencing a tremendous ordeal of anxiety about expressing his feelings to you, he was actually quite graceful with romance when his nerves eased. He knew how to treat someone right, with care, gentleness, compassion, and tender admiration. Your face lit up in response to his words, with DJ taking notice and beaming in return.
“And you know who else would love you just as much as I do? Well- maybe not as much as me because that’s a whole lot of love to beat,” DJ expressed, letting out a bit of nervous laughter.
“My Momma! You represent everything that she could dream of in a partner for me. You’re kind, humble, and not to mention absolutely beautiful,” his eyes tenderly met yours though he found himself immediately glancing down. His timid nature was surprisingly soothing and endearing at the same time.
“I can’t wait for you to meet her one day! And try her cooking too- I bet you she’ll make you something extra special when she meets you!”
DJ was sincere in his words. You knew how important his mother was to him and how deeply he valued her opinions and perspectives. You envisioned a future with him filled with safety, comfort, understanding between you both. You felt giggly with excitement in the moment and peace at the thought of your connection to DJ.
There was something really sweet about DJ being so eager to make this moment perfect for you. Despite the elements of Wawanakwa being against you both, the island felt unusually beautiful in this moment. The sound of the water gently brushing against the dock, the pink and red hues of the now less overbearing rising sun, it felt comforting with DJ beside you. Almost as if every negative detail about staying on the island disappeared for a moment in time, like every grueling aspect of the competition you’ve endured thus far was worth it for the reward of having such a sweet boy develop a loyal care for you.
“Come on, (Y/N). You want to rest with me for a bit somewhere more comfortable for you before the day really starts?” DJ spoke to you in such a soft, welcoming tone.
DJ shakily, though very delicately, took your hand and attempted to steadily guide you to the end of the dock, placing you both to have a direct view of the water glimmering with the rising sunshine illuminating your environment. The wooden panels of the dock were “more comfortable?” You laughed internally, appreciating his effort. He guided you with his big hands placed on your shoulders gently encouraging you to sit. You looked up at his tall frame follow your movements and sit beside you, awkwardly attempting to find a less uncomfortable sitting position for his legs. He presented you with a shy, but genuine smile, as if he was mentally preparing to do something. Hesitantly, DJ put his arm around you, softly pulling you in to his body.
“I-is this okay with you? Does this feel alright? I want to make sure I’m not making you uncomfortable or anything! Your safety and comfort is really important to me, (Y/N).”
You found your entire body overwhelmed with a combination of giddy excitement and the comforting warmth that his endearing affection provided you. You leaned your head into his shoulder earnestly. It fit perfectly, as if the space on him was there for you to rest your head specifically. You heard DJ sigh a gentle exasperation of relief and what was evidently a similar type of giddy joy that you were experiencing. He leaned his head towards yours and slowly rubbed your outer arm in gentle, repetitive movements. Viewing the sunrise with DJ holding you felt right. Perhaps he was correct, the dock actually did feel pretty comfortable somehow!
A seagull hopped in front of you and DJ, squawking at an abnormally loud volume in the midst of the serene moment you shared together. Startled, DJ instinctively jumped and you gently flinched. You giggled, which grounded him from his short-lived fear. Signs of your joy filled his sensitive heart with contentedness, as if all he ever wanted was for you to experience happiness. He laughed in response and positioned himself to return to the comforting way he had been holding you. The sun was warm, but in a cozy way, like a lighter blanket from the sky was covering you and DJ together. This combined with the comfort you felt by DJ and from his gentle motions on your arm and shoulder led you to peacefully fall asleep.
The sounds of the muffled cheers of over-excited boys arose from the same area behind the trees that caught your attention before. DJ panicked, instantly motioning with his hands for his friends to be quiet and to get out, in fear that them being exposed again would disturb your slumber. The muffled cheers transformed into stifled laughter.
But you were fast asleep. DJ exhaled in relief again, gratefully admiring your tranquility. He looked at your face, a face with features he found so beautifully captivating and precious, and closed his eyes, fulfilled in your presence.
