Hello guys :3, i came back with a new post that it's to talk about Stalyan and how they handle redemtion. This is not to make anyone uspet, i just wan't to proove my point and why it fails.
First point is: why is Stalyan's role important ?
Stalyan and Eugene grow up in a toxic embiroment which the Baron, Stalyan's father and a master mind of manipulation, have them understand his control. They both have to learn how to survive together as they do crimes, they did double cross each other but nothing serious because Eugene was happy with Stalyan.
Eugene in the movie says that flynn rider was lucky with the girls which can imply that in the past he flirted with other women knowing he was in a relationship which could trigger Stalyan because in tangled: thiefs usually wear a mask of protection and hide their true self in a shell to avoid being hurt. Stalyan hide her pain into a shell of anger because how her father is a bad person she probably though that using his tips would help her but it made it worst and Eugene left her in the altar.
The altar is a key part because in Stalyan's pov her boyfriend just vanished and never saw him again, and the news she got probably made her feel humiliated how her ex left her for the lost princess, someone rich with royal title. That was the last straw for her and in beyond the corona walls, Eugene doesn't apologize to her for leaving her. Stalyan doesn't hold grudge but it deeply hurt her, her father wanted them to get married so he poison Lance even if Stalyan disagree with it. In all the episode she didn't use violence except the slap to Eugene (put yourself in her shoes, your boyfriend left her without explenation and the sudden You get info about him. He left You for a royal princess and You felt humiliated because Stalyan is poor while Rapunzel is rich as has a kingdom ). Stalyan doesn't see Eugene because she thinks he will just leave Rapunzel for another one, she never saw Eugene's change and he constantly victimize himself. Their relationship wasn't healthy but Stalyan isn'r entirly to blame, some fans hate her because of the lack screentime without information. I rewatch that episode to built an argument of why she is also a victim of abuse in part of the baron and why she has this controlling behavior, she isn't a Saint but neither Eugene is. In the end Rapunzel defeat Stalyan and she looking hurt leaves, as Rapunzel celebrates her defeat.
In eye of pincosta we saw that Stalyan is not a person of holding grudge because she isn't mad at Rapunzel. She just mocks her, her life with Eugene and Rapunzel at first forcer her to join because she discover Stalyan cheated, the two of them were literally mischaracter so i won't go deep but here is the issue. Rapunzel judge Stalyan based in Eugene's pov and what she saw back there but never tries to understand Stalyan at all. She never tries to Bond with her abot their relationship with Eugene, she is just Focus to bring him back and her redeeming Stalyan doesn't work because Rapunzel only gave her a chance at the end while she never show sign that she wanted to help Stalyan so the not she had doesn't make any sence.
The issue with how redemtion is handle: why it fails ?
The reason why redemtion in tangled the series fail it's because if You are not in Rapunzel's circle if family then you don't matter. In tbea Lady Caine explain her story with her father and how frederic put him and other criminals in jail rot to death but Rapunzel instead of helping her she just fight her.
In secret of the sundrop to Rapunzel's Return: she didn't care about Varian, i acknowledge they weren't close friends but the fact that Varian go to prison, and then frederic told her that he will do anything to help Varian and his father instead of asking Varian " hey Varian weren't You suppose to get help ? " She just say " uhm have You forgot what happen in the storm ? " So she holds grudge and suddenly when Varian and the saporians prison her she expect Varian to change. Other criminals as Dwayne, Axel, Weasel, etc. Weren't redeem by Rapunzel, she faught them and the whole point of the movie is that Rapunzel with Eugene's help she want's to see the good in everyone and help people but in the series it's portrait to hold grudge and instead of helping people she fights them. Her favoritims with Cass is an example of why redemtion fail but also doesn't because cass was struggling feeling recognize and Rapunzel did everything she could to bring her back but that cost to let her kingdom be taken away and let some of her people get hurt. I love cass, she is my favorite and i relate to her, but i can't pretend that because Rapunzel has favoritims with her and never gave up on her, it gives the idea that she only cares about her family circle and not in other people as Varian, Stalyan, Lady Caine, etc.
Which shows built a better story of redemtion?
A show i would recommend that i think redemtion works is definily shera and the princesses of power the reboot
A sumarize: shera explores a fantasy dystopic world where the Main characters live on a toxic embiroment while the other Main characters live on a place and both kingdoms: the evil hord and brightmoon were in a war. In the end of the series, the villain is forgiven because she shows to change and wan't to follow a healthy path along side the main character and the idea of the show is help people as the intro says " turning darkness to light ". The show is basically how Stalyan and Eugene lived on a toxic embiroment while Cass and Rapunzel live on a healthy embiroment, the main character as Eugene leave the toxic embiroment and go to live with with the other two character, in a healthy embiroment as the other character who gets leave behind as Stalyan got a destructive path and became toxic because they had an abusive parent figure.
This post was inspired in a talk with @flynnr1derluver , we both wanted to built an argument of why redemtion doesn't work in tts and why Stalyan has a major role. I was lowkey scared to post it because i didn't wan't to sound that I'm defending stalyan's actions. Of course i acknowledge that she isn't okay and she needs help but she is not entirly to blame. Also again i don't hate cass, she is my favorite but i needed to use her villain arc to explain of why tts fail in redemtion. This is just our pov, leave a comment if you agree or disagree and explain why
The ending i deserve, Stalyan being geniouly happy and be around that people that love her and won't made her feel judge and of course she dates Brock, she needs her boyfriend included too.
