so I just watched the odyssey movie....

and I made this within 5 minutes of returning. so I think that sums up my thoughts on it. (though im willing to rant more if ppl want it. cause I have COMPLAINTS)

listen it's not that I think epic the musical is a perfect adaption of the odyssey but it was an impressive passion project that knew what it wanted to be and knew what people gravitated to in the original work and it put significant effort into conveying this through its unique medium and tone to the point that hundreds of other people felt compelled to put effort into their own artistic interpretations of that version of the story. and that's really cool! and yes I would be more critical if it was a 100 million dollar project made by a professional because what the fuck do you mean you're a world-famous director and you cut the my name is nobody scene are you goddamn serious

#the way my friends and i are going ‘epic was good actually’ is dire ToT #and i was so excited about the telemachy since epic kind of skips over it #that being said. both epic and the odyssey have questionable relationships with their casting #nolan castinh a Black woman for helen and then erasing her happy endinh #to instead have her white husband and her hate each other + implications he scarred her #rivera herrans cast the two characters who disregard their ‘love’ interest personhood’s and consent with Black actors #also gesturing vaguely at eurylochus + that live stream moment where jorge ‘slapped’ him #hell. hell in the epic fandom.
