RIP Gunny “Lardass” Bonerjamz
It is with great regret that we announce the passing of Bonerjamz mascot and exemplary fatass Gunny, following a long struggle with a chronic illness. We will always remember Gunny’s zest for life, which was matched only by his girth.
Gunny is survived by Sarge, the other cat adopted from the shelter at the same time about 13 years ago. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to Doordash, to pay tribute to Gunny’s bottomless hunger (for life) and unmatched laziness.

re: product placement in movies, I don't think the brands should have any say in it actually. Like sometimes they can object--I say they don't get to do that.
"Uhm when robocop blows a guys brains out there's a Coca-Cola ad in the background that gets splattered with gore, we don't like that" Too fucking bad, this is an artistic work.
"Uhm when the sadistic killer rapes that guy with a broken bottle, does it have to be a Coke bottle?" YES IT DOES. You don't get to flood the planet with your brand for generations then dictate where it can't appear!
and so on and so forth. Because we live in a world full of branding and it's weird when that branding is conspicuously absent! Even when its negative!
Going back to Lufthansa 1829, I shit on airbus a lot but when everything is working properly the flight computers offer some remarkable performance.
The computers can hold the plane at a maximum angle of attack (the angle of airflow across the lifting surfaces of the wing) and minimum speed, and won't let the pilots exceed that and stall the plane.
You can pull back as much as you want on the stick and the computer simply won't let you stall. If you do put the plane in a bank that is too steep or most any other unstable situation if you just let go of the controls the computers will work to stabilize things.
Most issues involve cases where those protections are not available, and pilots wind up not knowing how to fly their aircraft. Incidents don't happen often in general, but when they happen on an Airbus you're likely to find a flight crew that didn't know what to do without the computer...or didn't know some fundamental aspect of the role they play.
Anyway, back on flight 1829 you had those computers being fed data suggesting the angle of attack was too high and a stall was imminent. At that point the computer overrides the pilots, like I mentioned earlier. To get out of an impending stall the most simple move is to lower the nose of the aircraft, which is what the computer does.
...now if the pilot had reached over his head, there's a row of switches that can switch off the computers. Well, sort of. The A321 is fully fly-by-wire of course. And that's what they eventually did, they shut down the flight computers fed by the defective sensor.

I was thinking about product placement in media, and this is my autism speaking I guess but I don't usually mind unless it's obvious I'm watching a commercial. I mean I live in a world full of branding. When computer monitors very conspicuously don't have branding it takes me out of the movie because it's obviously fake.
Same with cars and anything else where branding is obvious IRL: when that stuff is absent it's more grating than seeing a real world brand name, because you know one should be there. "Uhm you know Ford paid to have that car in there" oh no shit? Oh that just ruins the movie, I mean it sticks out like a sore thumb, seeing a Ford. You never see those IRL.
Now if the camera lingers on the Ford logo, puts it front and center in every shot, and the characters start talking about the features of their wonderful Ford product...ok fuck off.
The above actually happened in a later episode of House, BTW.
So there's a fine line there, but living in a world of branding it's worse to me when that branding is gone or obviously fake.
Antibranding sticks out like bad CGI. Or just CGI anymore since making that shit look good only mattered when there were practical effects artists to compete with--now its the only game in town so it doesn't need to look good. But that's a different grievance.
lol airbust strikes again...is what I would say if Boeing hadn't jumped into the American century of humiliation with both feet, making aircraft with the same fucktarded canadian medical system style flight computers that decide the answer is often suicide
