So... having Disney Villains in the valley is funny...
You have Ursula: she keeps trying to scam people and manipulates behind your back. But she has taken a genuine effort in restoring the valley, and has admitted she values the loyalty the player has shown to her.
Then there's Scar: he keeps complaining about him not being King, has the Player help him reclaim at least the Sunlit Plateau as his, and played a part in causing the Forgotten to snap. But he also kept remembering the Player when they were younger, treasuring the drawing they made for him, and asks the Player to show compassion to the Forgotten.
Then there's Gothel, who... betrayed the Forgotten without ever apologizing or helping to reach out to them, has made fun of WALL-E and his plant, treats Belle like trash making Beast mad on her behalf, and is in general really condescending towards the Player.
Merlin, does this hag HAVE to stay in the Valley?!
Probably be best if we avoid ruffians and thugs, though
ultimate male fictional characters i fell in love with // a thread 7/?
7. Flynn Rider (Tangled 2010)
I never liked those posts that reduce the Disney princesses to “girl who overacts about something and dramatically flings herself down and bawls” (super popular in the early 10’s and somehow that’s how a shocking majority view the classics now) but after an Aladdin (1992) rewatch, it’s especially egregious that they ever included Jasmine in that.
This part. This is the part I’m talking about
This is not a woman falling to pieces because her father won’t let her marry a man she just met.
This is a woman born to a life she has very little say in. She has never had a genuine friend (besides a tiger). She is facing a marriage to a man she doesn’t know and doesn’t like but duty (and the law) demands it. So she took a risk, ran away, ran to a world she doesn’t know or understand and when she landed in trouble (serious, serious trouble) a stranger came to her aid. She finally (finally!) made a real connection with someone but they didn’t get much time together before the guards showed up and she had to reveal who she was.
This moment when she’s crying her heart out? It comes after she’s been told that the first person she ever connected with, the first person to be genuinely interested in her for who she is and not what she is, the first real friend she has ever made, was executed… because of her.
She believes a good, innocent person has lost their life because of her actions, and what’s more, it brings home the reality for her that she cannot have a normal life or normal relationships, because see the consequences one little attempt wrought?
I actually love this trope. People treat crying like some kind of moral failure. Boys shouldn't cry, girls *can* cry, but that's also what makes them inferior. If this is not an example of toxic masculity, I don't know what is.
Crying is normal. Even if it's over something trivial. We all face a lot of struggles in their lives, whether we acknowledge it or not. Something minor might end up breaking the camel's back.
Anyway, here's one of my favorite scenes in Beauty and the Beast:
Belle's reaction is completely understandable. I think Mrs. Potts put it best: "The girl lost her father and her freedom all in one day." That's not overreacting!
Thank you so much for adding Belle!
Really, none of the classic princesses deserve the misinterpretation.
Cinderella?
Again, this is not after someone told her “yOu CaN’t MaRrY a MaN yOu JuSt MeT”—this is after she went to great lengths to get ready for the ball, adhering to the intentionally difficult (meant to be impossible) stipulations set by her abusive step-mother for her to be allowed to attend (when really she was invited and had as much right as the others to attend). She made that dress (I can’t recall off the top of my head if the classic animated version was also her mother’s old dress she restyled or not but still, she put in a ton of work on top of all the extra house work) and what did her step-family do? They tore to shreds while she was wearing it. Of course she’s lost hope: it’s the final straw after years and years of doggedly remaining optimistic despite constant harsh treatment.
Let’s go to another favourite: Mulan.
Mulan’s just had the worst day.
She tried her hardest to live up to her family’s and her society’s expectations and vision of a perfect bride but she failed. Not only did it go wrong, but she was publicly humiliated by the Matchmaker—by extension, humiliating her family.
Granted, her family has been kind and sympathetic about the whole thing. Her father even goes to encourage her, assuring her of his unconditional love for her and his confidence that she’ll get it right next time.
She’s just beginning to smile when the drums pound and news of war reaches their village. Her father—her beloved father who’s already a veteran and lives with a disability—is expected as the only male in their family to suit up and head out in the morning.
Mulan can’t help. Nothing she says will be listened to and she can’t take his place (until, of course, she thinks of a way to do so which this moment of crying it out in the rain leads to—score one for having a good cry and clearing your head).
There’s of course more. Take any princess’ dramatic crying momentTM and review the context and I’ll bet you’ll see it’s never as trivial as some have framed it. And, yes, like prev pointed out, it’s this awful thing of people believing boys can’t cry and girls can but then they can never be taken seriously.
Crying is healthy. And crying in response to emotional distress is totally normal. Writers and storytellers across the ages have understood it and portrayed it.
Has anybody added Ariel already?
She didn't deserve to see the things that she held dearly destroyed right before her eyes by her own father. No, it wasn't just about the cute guy she just met. Her family had never approved of her interests and she felt so isolated that she hid them away. Just collecting random stuff that she felt oddly inspired by. Then Triton obliterated it. Her memories, all the care she put into organizing it and keeping it safe—gone. He couldn't accept her passion because it didn't align with his beliefs, so he destroyed it. The ultimate rejection from a parent, the very people who are supposed to love you and make you feel safe.
My girl deserved—which she ultimately got in the end—but still.
Let's take a sec to mention Aurora.
Or Briar Rose, who she thought she was.
She's not just crying because her aunts/the three fairies told her she couldn't be with this guy she just met. She's crying because she just found out her entire life is a lie. She's not a simple peasant girl living with her eccentric aunties, she's a princess. She's a princess of a kingdom she knows little about, has parents she's never met, she's going to go see them today, they're going to leave their little cottage to go to this castle she doesn't even remember, meet people she can't remember... The 'hunter' she met in the woods? She can't keep visiting him after all, she's a princess and has to leave everything about this life behind her today
and on top of all of that, it is her goddamn birthday when she learns all this.

Valley Design
Mulan’s House
Stuff that would totally happen in Dreamlight Valley
Sally: "Jack and I will have an heir to the Pumpkin Kingdom soon."
The Forgotten: "Whoa...I'm really happy for you guys."
(Jack places stack of papers on table)
Jack: "It's you. We're adopting you. Please sign here."
Hercules Headcanons (Dreamlight Valley AU)
A/N: FINALLY!!! ANOTHER ADDITION TO MY DREAMLIGHT HAREM!!! Have some headcanons/imagines about what Valley life would be like for Herc! Credits for le dividers~
Herc probably bonds with you a lot right off the bat. Not only is he an affable sweetiepie but you two can relate a lot on the struggles of having powers and people counting on you.
The ruler of the valley and the heir to Zeus’ throne have a lot to talk about unsurprisingly.
Flynn sees him while they’re both walking their noble steeds, Maximus and Pegasus.
Upon seeing him for the first time, Flynn probably thinks to himself, “Maybe big noses aren’t so bad.”
Their horses like to “play” (aka ragebait each other into oblivion until they finally bond over how chaotic they are) while the boys just watch and shake their heads.
They exchange beauty tips from time to time, though Flynn is extremely jealous of Herc’s natural beauty since gods don’t really need hairspray or anything like that.
Maui takes a shine to the God of Strength, now that he has someone who he is an equal to when it comes to muscle-power he likes to roughhouse with him and have playful debates about the different lore of their other counterparts!
They often egg each other on in friendly competitions, though it’s best they’re held on a floating island to keep your valley from ending up in shambles. Learned that the hard way on Dazzle Beach once. Sure, they found out who could make the biggest sand castle, but you also had to clean all of that up… And your inventory is only so big.
Gaston is on the complete opposite side of that spectrum though
The amount of one-sided beef Gaston has with this man is INSANE
He is always trying to challenge Herc to displays of strength while Herc is just trying to be helpful ;-;
“Oh, did you need help lifting this?” He says innocently as he lifts an entire boulder Chris Redfield style and has the Frenchman about to start a full-blown crashout
Hades cannot catch a break either. It’s Hercules this, Hercules that, what ever happened to his little minion..?
(He secretly misses you and is jealous but he will not say so under any circumstances, he’ll just cold shoulder you and wait for you to grovel.)
At least Ralph has someone to bond with over accidentally breaking things all the time.
Rest assured you won’t have to raise your royal pickaxe when he’s around, the rocks just evaporate at a single flick!
Oh, pumpkin farming with no inventory space? Herc’s gotcha, he can hold a mile high stack in his arms or help you harvest them himself!
Of course you have to spoil him with some pumpkin pie afterwards.
Generally speaking though a lot of the structures in the valley are protected to some extent by Dreamlight magic. With all the supervillains and whatnot running amok it’d be silly not to at the very least enchant the important architecture. Keeps the bad guys from destroying buildings and keeps Herc from accidentally leveling a whole biome so he’s happy.
He thinks very highly of you, it’s quite sweet.
In return for saving him he tries to chisel a statue in your honor but it’s… Well… It’s the thought that counts.
Hades 100% uses this opportunity to show him up and make an even bigger, better statue of YOU! … Clinging to Hades’s leg… While he sits on a flame throne… Nice…
Mulan keeps trying to train with him and he humors it a bit, swapping regimens here and there. She’ll go through one of Phil’s obstacle courses and he’ll practice his lacking tactical skills and do his best to aim a bow and arrow.
He thinks he won’t learn much from it at first but a real hero never stops training, her insight helps his battle IQ even if the physical challenges aren’t present and vice versa.
Heck him and Merida even start to bond and they all train together at some point (though, they might have to start enchanting the bows at some point or else they’ll keep breaking).
He gets really puffed in the chest only when Hades in particular is around you, attempting to guard you like a loyal cerberus.
Other villains he’s weary of naturally, but Hades in particular he worries will trick you into some underhanded deal and he does NOT want to see that happen again.
He is quite surprised to see how well Hades manages to coexist in the valley though, and you don’t have the heart to tell him it was all thanks to a magical typewriter in another dimension… It’s a long story.
Other than that, Herc is very content in the valley!
He always has something to do, whether it be helping you with your royal duties or trying to find a constellation in the stars that encapsulates your royalness, he’s happier here than he ever was in his realm.

I think the colors in this character illustration I drew turned out surprisingly well. Maybe red and skin tones are just easier for me to work with?

So... After just now finishing up the last few quests for Storybook Vale (presumably the Hades and Maleficent LV. 10 friendship quests) and entering the Unwritten Realms I have thoughts on one of the devices you find in there.
!Spoilers for Storybook Vale under the cut!
Let's get married again
࿔ Tangled - Flynn Rider / Eugene Fitzherbert
࿔ Romantic - fluff, already married
Back then, when he was a thief, or even before, when he was still an orphan, with nothing but the wish for something better it was hard to imagine that he would ever reach this point on life, where he has a house of his own, or rather, a house he shares with the person he now calls home, the person who is always awaiting for him to come back when he goes out, the person who iluminate his life, the person he would call his dream if it wasn't because life with you them is already like a dream come true
You, the light of his days, the person who is always there to welcome him home and make the loneliness he felt for so long go away, the person who always plays along and laugh at his jokes, the person who's smile makes him feel like not only everything he has gone thought has been for this moment but also that makes him feel like, perhaps, he is doing something right, if he gets to call that person with the most beautiful smile he has ever seen his spouse, if he has the fortune to return to that person's arms then he may have done something good to deserve so much
And today, as the sun has settle down and you two get ready to get some sleep, climbing into your shared bed almost at the same time, as you curl up at his side Eugene still seems to be lost in thoughts, he moves as close as he can and holds your hand in his, staring at the matching rings you two share, symbol of your new lifes, caressing it gently before looking into your eyes, getting lost not only in the sight of your beauty but also with how much this moment truly means, of what he has and what he is now
Out of nowhere and while still holding your hand Eugene said that you two should get married, winning a soft laugh from your part, reminding him that you can't get married when you two are already married, and even if he has laugh along side with you before insisting that, then, you two should get married again; and even if both shared a laugh about it deep down Eugene meant it, if he could he would marry you again and again, because doing it just once it isn't enough for him to grap his mind around the fact that he is so lucky to be married to the most amazing person in the world
