I never realized that not being able to use just one of my fingers would cause me such inconvenience. It has only been two days and I am struggling to do such mundane things as read a book. And, it keeps waking me up when the splint falls off and the finger brushes against something in the middle of the night. Not that others do not suffer worse, but this sucks. Also, I feel as if I have a newfound respect for those with disabilities that permanently inhibit their ability to do what I would have previously thought to be simple tasks. My current situation is not even on that same level and yet it feels taxing to me. Accommodations and resources for a plethora of disabilities should most definitely have wider availability both in private and public spaces to support those that need it. Society should be designed so that all of it's people within get the chance at a decent life and opportunities instead of catering to only it's able bodied, and lets be honest, white and upper to middle class citizens.
