Like, how tf can you say that sexism is sex-based when trans people who pass for their stated gender get treated exactly the same way a cis person of the same gender would?

Cis women and passing transwomen both get catcalled because men find them sexually attractive and believe, judging from external appearances, that they have female genitalia. As a passing transman you don’t “look like” their stereotypical view of someone who has female genitalia; therefore they don’t catcall you. Catcalling is nonetheless an example of sex-related oppression, as it is a choice that the catcalling men make based on the sex that they believe you have, and it is a daily way in which women specifically are reminded of their vulnerability to male sexual violence (gay men do not catcall and street harrass other men in the same way that heterosexual men do women).

So, in some ways (as with catcalling) a trans person who passes for their stated gender is treated in the same way as the group within which they “pass;” this doesn’t change the fact that it’s a sex-based oppression, which exists specifically because the sex of humans is generally perceivable by other humans. 

In many other ways, trans people who pass as their stated gender are categorically not treated the same way in which a “cis” person of the same gender would. Medical misogyny and research biases are probably the clearest examples; for example, the fact that erectile dysfunction receives substantially more research funding than endometriosis and dysmenorrhoea. The fact that prostate cancer receives more research funding than uterine and ovarian cancers. The fact that new drugs are researched on male cell lines, then male animals, then male humans - then, finally, some women (and maybe only transwomen, if they can get away with this as a legal loophole). The fact that condoms are cheaper and easier to access than sanitary towels or effective prescription painkillers for menstrual issues. Abortion restrictions in their entirety. Transmen are also at heightened risk of domestic and intimate partner violence compared to transwomen (ie, the fact that females are at greater risk of this than males, from males, holds true for both cis and trans individuals). I’ve separated this from the above paragraph as it is probably more affected by whether or not the relevant trans individuals “pass,” but I also think it is relevant because, as you acknowledge, it is not possible to identify your way out of oppression when you do not pass, ie, when men can identify your female natal sex, and therefore it is sex-based oppression.

You are still subject to misogynistic reproductive laws. You are still subject to the misogyny in the medical industry where we take drugs only tested on males who are considered the human default. If you moved to another country that doesn’t respect “self gender identification” you would still be treated as a female unless you were able to hide your vagina from everyone including doctors for long enough. You still grew up as a little girl and created neuron pathways during your development that will never leave you, and if you say you’re “completely over” all of the misogyny and sexism you experienced throughout your developmental years, fine, but…? You really think it’s that easy and it doesn’t stick around in our psyche?

You are still subject to it at the end of the day because if/when people find out, you are now less than human or some bitch and you will automatically be treated differently and you know it.

If identifying out of womanhood helps you, fine. I can’t argue that I guess. But why do you have to shit on women who still are seen and express themselves as women, who are just trying to support feminism because of the way we are affected based on biological reality? Do you think we should just all opt out of womanhood and try to pass and that will solve the problem? Maybe your solution to “pass” and relieve yourself of some of the oppression works for you, but it is topical and does nothing to help the root cause or sexism and misogyny; in fact, you might be adding to it with the way you speak about women and feminists specifically.
