When did Griffin Rock get founded?

1649 is the year, but what month?

In season 1 episode 17 we see them celebrating founders day, the celebration of the founding of Griffin Rock. Puffins are seen in that episode, and they are active in Maine from April to August. So the founding of Griffin Rock is somewhere in that time.

Now to cross check this with Puritan expeditions in Maine. It is very likely according to US history that Puritans were the ones who founded Griffin Rock, as their range of settlements and colonies were well into the North East coast, spanning parts of Maine.

NOW! Something interesting is that from 1642 to 1651 there were 2 of England's many Civil War, which the Puritans won and started their expansion from Massachusetts and annexed most of Southern Maine into Massachusetts. Why do I bring this up? Horace Burns could have very well been a part of this war. While the war was winding down in the later 40th decade, he could have taken some Puritans with him from England to make a colony in the New World. As many historians have pointed out, if you had the money, you had land in the New World.

This fits well into the possible timeline of April to August, as the last battle was from August 17-19 with the Battle of Preston. While this unfortunately does not narrow down the possible time, we can turn back to the episode for this.

The episode had a big storm, which could be a leftover of a hurricane as seen by Maine’s hurricane season of May to November. This crosses off April as a possible month for the town’s founding. However that storm was specifically a thunderstorm, which normally hits from late spring into summer. This crosses off September through November for us now, though that was decided by the puffins already.

We are now stuck with late May, June, July, and August as possible times for the founding of Griffin Rock. Looking at the episode again, there were no mentions of school for Cody throughout that episode, and scouting tends to pick up during the summer as kids have free time. Maine schooling typically seems to start from August 29th and ending June 1st. This crosses off the end of August and May for us now. The episodes following this episode as well point towards it being summer, as we see kids playing mid day out in the park and in the pool in episode 19.

With this information I can confidently say that founders day was likely some time in midsummer. If I were to take a guess, it's likely the end of June. Given from what I've seen, that month is pretty active out of the summer months for thunderstorms.
