“ Very recently, scientists have discovered that, not only is the bone-collecting pokemon Marowak a ‘pouch haver’ (like Komala), but it is in fact the middle stage form of Kangaskhan. Well, the females are, anyway. Marowak infants, Cubones, hatch from their eggs prematurely without having their iconic skulled-heads. For the first weeks of it’s life, though it can live outside it, it will spend the majority of its time in its mother’s pouch as she collects bones. Once the mother sheds the hardened cartilage around her head, the cubone instinctively places it’s head in the skull it becomes fused to the cubone’s body and it goes up to level 1. It will eventually be able to evolve once it’s grown into/reached level 28, at which point it with develop hardened face armor of its own.  All Marowak can reach a max level of 100, but it’s only at that level that seasoned, older female marowaks will undergo a third evolution into Kangaskhan, during which she, other Kangaskhan and mother Marowaks will usually live in communal groups together. Male Marowaks are loners, with even male Cubones wandering off on their own for “experiences” sake; female Marowaks keep males at bay because of this dominating, faux-intimidating spectacle. Besides the Abra-family, Marowaks are the only known pouch havers native to the Kanto region; but certainly not the only pouch havers in the pokemon world!  Despite earlier beliefs that they were related to Lycanroc or Delphoxes (because of their similar likelihood to walk on all fours in the wild but on two legs under trainers), the exceedingly rare Sinnoh pokemon Lucario is in fact a pouch haver as well. Lucarios scrape through metal to eat, so to keep their young Riolus safe, they have a backwards facing pouch. It would appear that part of the reason female Lucario (and the species as a whole) is so rarely found is that, in the league-approved standing upright position, Riolus will fall from their mother’s pouches. ” 

Just me headcanon-ing about if Marowak and Cubone were related to Kangaskhan and so also marsupial in nature, and then extending that to Lucario by making it also a marsupial modeled after a thylacine, but y’know, bipedal. Thylacines had backwards-facing pouches like wombats so that would make for a weird visual.
