Miss Long hair
some miscellaneous scans and collages I've been making while scanning lol
My Flickr has been updated with a scan magazine ad of Miss Long Hair, as well as Hitomi and Emily's booklet and the booklet from my Suntan Rainbow Nana-chan! Most of these pieces are from parts of her packaging, which I won't be fully scanning yet but I can at least play around with the parts I did scan (as well as some portions taken from @dollsahoy's scans of my booklet!!)
(reroot) Miss Long Hair, Takara 1970
I’m always on the lookout for Miss Long Hair dolls that come in bad-enough condition to justify rerooting them, and this is the first to get new hair in my collection! Her head has been fully rerooted in saran with a blend of multiple blondes from Shimmerlocks, and I made a brand new grow tail for her to match as well.
I chose her specially to model this fashion (No.6005). It originally comes with a lovely green necklace, but I swapped it out for this matching vintage Peggy Ann necklace which I think suits the look better.
The promo pictures for this fashion are paired with white shoes, but the released version comes with bright red ones (??) so I've swapped those out for an extra white pair from my collection. An earlier stock photo of this fashion features a small bouquet, but it’s missing in the actual released set- so I made my own!
This fashion was originally on one of my brunettes, but her hairstyle was too large to accommodate the adorable bonnet. She’ll get a new outfit one day that better suits her hairstyle ❤️
New addition to the Miss Long Hair lineup! You can tell I was really itching to style a doll's hair this day lol
Something interesting about this particular example is her eye makeup; usually, Miss Long Hair comes with warm-toned blue eyeshadow and a blue crease. This girl comes with an indigo crease, and very subtle indigo eyeshadow to match!
She's wearing fashion No.6004, which I deboxed just for her!
(scan of my Miss Long Hair booklet by @dollsahoy! See the full scan in this album on my Flickr ) I don't make a habit of deboxing vintage doll fashions these days, unless I have a duplicate- and luckily I do for this fashion! (old draft that I forgot to post lol)

Miss Long hair
Two new additions to my Miss Long Hair collection, freshly restored and styled! (boring stuff below the cut)
Jan 13, 2018: Holes? Gaps? Cut the ears off your cat or wolf doll? Liquid Fusion is amazing at sealing up those tears in vinyl.
------
(I wasn't sure if I wanted to share this because it sounds so corny and a bit pretentious when I'm still learning years later. But maybe someone out there doesn't know that urethane adhesives are great for gluing and patching up vinyl.
It does yellow with time though, as I found out a couple of years ago looking over some WIPs. It shouldn't be an issue for scalps that are going to be covered in hair, but something to keep in mind if it's going to be applied somewhere visible.
Anyway, Aleene's Liquid Fusion Glue.
(the packaging has since change look))
Aforementioned yellowing. The photo is a few years old now. I'd take a current photo but I'm not sure where that doll head is at the moment.
Oh this sucks. I don't know if I'll be rerooting vintage dolls anymore if this is their fate lol. I don't think I've ever rerooted a vintage doll that wasn't split, in fact I usually make thin patches of Liquid Fusion (by painting a thin layer onto a silicone mat, peeling it off and cutting it to size) to cover large splits in crucial areas such as partings, so I have rerooted dolls that are entirely covered in Liquid Fusion. I guess this would be mitigated by painting the scalp lol I have some reroots with LF that extends like .5mm past the hairline for dolls with split hairlines that are already too low for me to have any wiggle room, though, so they're going to be in danger if this is something that always happens with LF

Mistake
For years I've wondered why Takara Miss Long Hair has been mistakenly (lol) called Miss Take since the early 00s despite both Google Translate and a professional translator telling me that her name is Miss Long Hair when I had her box and booklet translated. lol
Stop calling her a mistake please lol
Mika
Finally has a shelf of her own after living in my closet for months lol
Hopefully now I will clean her dress and pair it with proper undergarments and shoes
Tumblr is labeling everything I post as Mature now and refusing to review the labels on appeal, @staff what the fuck are you doing. It's pictures of dolls
Xenomorph head sculpt
One of mine is getting a reroot so I figured I should photograph the sculpt before I start lol
Adding these photos of the hair construction as well since I forgot to in the OP!
She has a deceptively easy hair construction that consists of only 2 sections; the front section (extending from her hairline to about a half inch past her hairline-right where her face tubing ends) and a ponytail securing the rest. Phase one: The ponytail is pulled through a plastic tube, which is then pulled down around the tube and secured in place with an elastic at the base of the tube. A second elastic is placed at the middle of the tube to further secure the hair in place and also to prepare for the second phase. Phase two: The hairline is pulled back over the covered tube, tied in place at the top with an elastic and then the remaining tail is pulled down and secured with the same elastic that secured the hair at the middle of the tube. This will work better with gel. When the hair is down, it's only about thigh length and pretty thick (hence the reroot on mine) You could probably replicate this exact hairstyle with a cut up boba straw if you wanted to. Very easy yet effective hairstyle!

Nefera Reroot
Can't tell you how long I've waited for this shade of opaque teal saran to be available from a dealer! It's been used on dolls going all the way back to the 90's but is most known for being Nefera's shade match (both g1 and g3, though g3's is blended with another shade) and it has never been sold by a doll hair dealer, ever, no matter how many times I've begged lol And then last month I find out that Shimmerlocks finally managed to get it! I ordered enough of it to reroot all of my Nefera dolls, and first up is my Signature Nefera since she's the best one. Finally she has no tinsel and no glue! A dream come true. Shimmerlocks has been killing it with saran this last year, they have so many shades that have never been sold by dealers before, including some custom shades that have only ever been used by Mattel. (yes it does pick up very blue on my camera, you'll just have to trust when I say it's an exact match to Nefera teal lol)
reroot
Xenomorph does have rooted hair with a full middle part, but it is both too short and too thickly rooted for my liking and doesn't look terribly flattering on her, so I rerooted this one with floor length black hair and no parting for a flat slicked-back look. Unfortunately this one had a very very wonky and asymmetrical factory rooting pattern, so I had to lower her hairline to correct it which is why she has slightly less forehead than my other Xenos. I had a custom outfit in mind for this one, but I think I like her better as a model for the bodysuit and the slicked hair makes for a good showcase of the tail and spinal sculpting, so she'll stay like this and I'll save my custom outfit for another Xeno since I have, let's just say, several lol
