ultear knew that the odds of that happening were incredibly slim, as she had only been able to sneak into jellal’s mind because circumstances had happened in a way that made it possible, but she also knew that the quickest way to make jellal more comfortable would to be to teach him how to guard his own mind.

now, jellal has mental defences that make it difficult to do anything with his mind— control it, read it, whatever. he is able to take these defences down when he likes, or to give certain people access.

There’s no point in attempting to defend himself to her. He deserves this, and so much worse. But … there’s no point in dwelling on that now. No, Erza deserves to have his full attention, at the very least.

A sympathetic look is sent in her direction. While he’s never had to put up with snoring, from two orphanages and a house with four siblings, he certainly knows what it’s like to have a disturbed sleep.

It had been a long time since Jellal had gone on a solo mission. For the past years he had been joint at the hip with Meredy and Ultear, but now that Ultear was gone... things were done differently.

If he was being completely honest, he would prefer for Meredy to be with him right now. He’s certain this mission is well within his skills, but it’s odd not having her by his side. However, with their newest recruits, it’s probably best that she stays behind to make sure that they don’t get up to any mischief.

So he’s here alone, tracking down a band of dark wizards that, according to his information, should be in the forest somewhere. He hasn’t been having much luck thus far. It’s no secret that Jellal isn’t a fan of dark wizards, but even he must admit that the way they’ve covered their tracks is quite impressive.

Finally, he hears a noise that is quite unfitting in the otherwise still forest, and now that he knows where to concentrate he can sense magical energy.

Swiftly and silently he makes his way through the forest, reaching the source of the disturbance and ducking out of sight while he prepares to attack. However... as he glances into the clearing, he sees that he has no reason to fight. It appears that he has been beaten to the prize.

He recognises the water mage, of course. A member of Fairy Tail, and amongst those who had fought against him at that place. Juvia Lockser.

There’s no reason to make his presence known, but... he imagines that Meredy will be disappointed if she hears that he saw someone she was friendly with and said nothing. While before he could have just ‘forgotten’ to tell her, with Erik around keeping secrets takes far more effort.

Deciding that, at the very least, greeting her will take up less energy, he reveals himself. Social interaction never hurt anyone, he supposes.
