I consider myself a fairly discerning witch. I check my experiences against my mental health baselines. I don't get swept up in divination spirals. I never assume something is a sign or a spirit right away. I know the difference between folklore and fact. Etc.

But when someone else's standard of discernment and groundedness requires that I treat magic as a placebo, act like spirits and the spirit world don't exist, or pretend to be a die-hard skeptic, that's just not something I have any desire to do.

This weekend, the Sidereal Coveen met in the woods for a period of witchcraft.....and glamping.

Discussing various books we had read of late, we decided to hold the Feast of Elphame from Viridarium Umbris. We collected plump red huckleberries and delicious black raspberries, plantain, ferns, and foxglove to drop our wishes into a stream. We constructed the table with branches and river stones from nearby. Our "cloth" was devil's club leaf. The table was laid with berries, leaves, bread and cheese, and sweet dandelion wine.

We turned and did not look back.

Reading this as a pagan is incredibly refreshing. I get a little tired of seeing symbols of belief which are important to me and people I hold dear just scrambled together because it looks cool and then tagged as #witchy and #pagan or chucked on Pinterest for an aesthetic.

the rule of cool is fine by me but it’s so wonderful to see people approach these symbols with with their own and stories and intentions.
