Recently noticed how some bug type pokemon looked like they could be in hollow knight, so I made some rather messy art for Golisopod in dirtmouth, Leavanny in Mossy Grotto and Starrysorry’s volcarona!
I could see Golisopod being an NPC that you could also fight later on. Maybe the same for Leavanny. Not really sure how to redesign the two, I made these concept art before I got bored of the idea lmao.
Credits again to https://starrysorry.tumblr.com/ for volcarona!
i think theres a weird grey area with being a fan and analysing horror movies where there is some underlying metaphor a director is asking you to examine, but people also completely over analyse them to the point of deconstruction
like, with hereditary, the movie is clearly about a family grieving and a change in dynamic and loss of love mixed with paranoia and cultism and ritual demonology - but people like to completely deconstruct hereditary to the point where ive read people say its not a horror movie, it is a movie about grief - but the point is that if it was an entirely single-minded movie about grieving, theres no real overt reason to make it a bloody, frightening horror movie. like, they didnt need to show a kids decapitated head to talk about how death is hard
i think sometimes its in an effort to intellectualise or forgive the sins of the genre, to make it a digestible metaphor, to ask non-horror audiences to look behind the curtain and see the thematic cogs turning underneath the bloody skin of the genre, to wipe away the red corn syrup and think about what the movie is trying to say - hereditary is about a grieving mother, saw is about the value of life, the vvitch is about the reclamation of gender, the thing is about the fear of HIV, etc. - and while i certainly do think those readings are true, relevant, and often intended, its incorrect to say the movie is ONLY about that theme, its also a horror movie! its about fear and trauma and horror, sometimes it hits the mark and sometimes it doesn’t, but you cant win over people to watching horror by claiming all violence is able to be ignored in favour of non-horror thematics. the horror makes the story
I’m gonna come back this morning and say for anyone wondering, analysing and picking apart horror movies is one of my favourite things in the world to do (PLEASE listen to The Faculty of Horror) and it’s one of the key ways I engage with horror cinema, I’m more talking in this post about the act of ignoring the horror element of horror movies entirely. It’s good to engage with deconstructing movies themes and visual metaphors, you just shouldn’t ignore the central genre, y'know?

Kobold in a sweater, what crimes will he commit
Arson!
It’s Ravioli!
In Age of Calamity Teba sometimes shoots arrows with his feet, which makes a lot more sense that using the wings that you are FLYING WITH. I guess Aaracoka Revali doesn’t have that problem.
Side note, he has a -1 in Cha because of course he does.
Trial of a Timelord is so funny because they're like "Okay so this is an investigative hearing concerning potential professional misconduct" but then 15 minutes in completely our of the blue the state prosecutor is just like "I MOVE FOR THE DEATH PENALTY" and everyone's just like "huh. Interesting." Like until that point it's not even a trial???
Poetic cinema.
It really gives you a full and nuanced sense of the Time Lords doesn’t it?
They're Dicks (tm)
There was a post getting reblogged around earlier in the week (maybe that was yours too?), maligning Time Lords’ grasp on how laws and trials work by citing the bit closer to the end when the Valeyard changes the charge from meddling to genocide (which, mind you, the Adjudicator seems to find just as jurisprudent as she does the Valeyard’s death penalty declaration; hell, she’s on the same page as the Valeyard with the genocide thing before he comes out with the word) based on the defense evidence after the defendant has essentially confessed to the new charge to make his case for defense. And, yeah, changing the charge mid-trial is not something you’d ever get happening in an Earth court run by non-marsupials. I’m not sure why the Doctor is more concerned about being executed for genocide instead of interference, unless it’s that he’s already essentially admitted to it under oath and so is less likely to escape it procedurally.
On the other hand, the verdict of Not Guilty By Reason Of Rescuing The Judge And All The Jurists From The Prosecutor’s Explosive Computer Networking Device also appears to be a thing in Time Lord courts, so it all sorted itself out.
I think the difference is that the Doctor is against genocide.
Like, the Doctor never claims to not be a meddler - he genuinely thinks he can win the case on Meddling is Good Actually. And I'd he can't, he's willing to stand by Meddling is Good Actually even if they execute him for it, as in the War Games.
Whereas there's no moral high ground to being executed for genocide, and "Genocide IS Bad but it's okay when I do it" is not a very solid argument even to himself.
And I mean. It is very revealing of the contrast between the characters who are driven by some sort of Principles and at least a conception of morality... and the Time Lords as a whole. When the Master turns up and tells you "Hey look, I'm evil and proud, and even I think what you're doing is messed up" like. There is something wrong with you.
I have said it before and I will say it again: the Mysterious Planet is a terrible example if your goal is to convinct the Doctor of Nice Job Breaking It Hero, but it's an excellent example if your goal is to demonstrate Time Lords Are Dicks (and Mindwarp less so but likewise). And at no point does the Valeyard ever look like he thinks that he's losing (except, possibly, when the Master turns up). He's just so triumphant the whole time. He knows exactly what he is doing and it is very much not what he claims to be doing.
Like, no part of this trial is legit. They literally pause the trial to murder someone in real time. They say they have only used the Death Penalty twice in their history - but nobody bats an eye when the Valeyard is like "AND ALSO WE SHOULD KILL HIM."
At the end of the day "not guilty by reason of we owe you one" is totally in character. Nobody cares about the genocide. The Doctor cares because he has principles and one of those is Genocide is Bad. The Valeyard cares because the Doctor cares. But the Time Lords... do not. Law trumps morality, but when it comes to it they're not that invested in the law either. They're just dicks.
It's amazing.
Are we just gonna ignore Entei sitting there and watching

“Heart of Ice” the Emmy-winning tale (Emmy for Outstanding Writing in an Animated Program) written by Paul Dini and directed by Bruce Timm. This episode revamps the origins of the character completely, giving him a dark and tragic background, which was later adapted into the comic book versions of the character, and is often voted by fans to be the best episode of the whole series
the more i think about mcu spider-man the more i don’t like mcu spider-man
like mcu twink peter will never have the depth of our friendly neighborhood spider-man. literally any time they try and make spider-man super cool with access to a ton of sick tech and everything i start to really lose interest. the appeal of spider-man to me is that he’s like just some guy who happens to have super powers. like you could just hang out with this dude. the “bigger” they make him the more he loses that.
actually i’m gonna elaborate on this further because spider-verse did this but they did it well and with purpose.
the peter from miles’ dimension was super over the top, kinda larger than life. as pointed out by peter b. several times. however unlike other times they’ve done this it wasn’t just to try and make spider-man look cool, it was all a part of miles’ narrative. miles was given huge shoes to fill and they used this as a tool to portray how small miles felt compared to peter.
but the difference between miles and mcu peter is that miles didn’t need any of that to become the spider-man he is today. one of his main role models in the film is peter b. who’s broke and off his game, but still manages to do amazing things.
that’s the appeal of spider-man. is that anyone can make a difference, no matter where you’re at in your life you can still be incredible.
Good comment via the person I reblogged from.
I think it’s interesting that the scene from the end of The Amazing Spider-Man with the eggs is being put forward as the pinnacle of Spider-Man cinema – and I agree, for the record – because I don’t think people know how hard that scene got dragged when Homecoming was released. I’m fairly sure one of Homecoming’s six screenwriters said something negative about it, although I can’t currently find the article where I saw it, but if you check out this review of Spider-Man Homecoming you’ll see something along the same lines: “No one wants to watch May chide Peter for forgetting the eggs when there’s way more interesting superhero stuff to get to.”
Right, except I do, because the eggs in The Amazing Spider-Man were always there to remind the audience that Peter’s great responsibility exists outside of his identity as Spider-Man as well as within it – he has a responsibility to his aunt! Even over something as simple as bringing home the eggs he’d previously forgotten to get! It’s meaningful because it shows us that responsibility is a multi-layered, multifaceted aspect of both Peter Parker and Spider-Man and something that is baked into the character, not just the costume. That he shows up beaten to hell, having played a large part in keeping New York from becoming lizard people, with his girlfriend’s father’s blood probably still on him, and that he pulls the world’s most busted package of like 100% broken eggs out of his backpack because he promised his aunt he would pick up eggs and that she embraces him is so important! And it got mercilessly dragged as not being exciting or cool enough! Not being enough of a superhero scene! TASM’s Aunt May of the absolutely incredible “You’re my boy and I won’t hurt you” scene got called dowdy and not fun and pathetic because she was “just waiting at home for the eggs”! And it drove me absolutely crazy! Justice for Peter treating May like she’s his mom and the most important person in the world to him and knowing he has a responsibility to her! Justice for the little humanizing elements that make Spider-Man ultimately a relatable story! Justice for the eggs scene!
One of the larger than life things that MCU Spider-Man badly remade is Peter’s identity getting revealed.
This was one of the best scenes in the movie’s franchise history:
Peter passes out after stopping the train and saving everyone in it, and gets carried by the passengers inside.
The juxtaposition of the superhero being saved by the people he almost died to help and repaying his kindness with a promise that his secret is safe. That’s the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man the MCU could never conceive.
My Foretold Mario movie predictions:
"haha we know we're in a video game a la Wreck-it-Ralph"
Luigi does a Fortnite dance
some multiple universe gimmick
toad falls into the "cute adorable little guy with deep voice and is actually kind of violent" animated trope
Peach girlboss moment where she rescues herself from Bowser and someone has to make a comment about it so they can say something like "just because im a girl doesn't mean I can't fight! also sexism is BAD!"
waluigi is not in the film
Jack Black absolutely kills it as Bowser
Chris Pratt actually does a decent Italian accent but still doesn't sound like Mario
Charles Martinet has a Stan Lee esque cameo and one line
The plot introduces a villain that all the characters have to team up against to defeat including Bowser, and the villain somehow doesn't even feel like a Mario character
Toad almost says a swearword or the swear word gets replaced with a child appropriate but still recognizable substitute ( "What the Fire Flower!?!?" "You son of a BULLET")
Seth Rogan does not change his voice in any way for Donkey Kong
innuendo line referencing magic mushrooms "for the adults"
mario is mean to luigi
pop song sung by celebrity that doesn't fit in with the rest of the soundtrack
toby fox is revealed to have composed an absolute banger final boss battle song
wtf uma musume is an isekai for dead racehorses????
imagine peacing out at the glue factory and then you miraculously wake up and look like this
#the funny side effect is the anime is actually a really good sports anime with no fanservice #because they don't want to tarnish the horse images as per ip agreement
you mean to tell me that rule 34 can only be subverted by the fucking mafia
What the fuck am I reading
Fanfiction idea
-Trixie has pulled pranks almost everyone in lazytown
- It’s time to pull one on Sportacus
- She cant come up with a satisfactory idea
- But she knows everyone disapproves of her pranks
- So
- She knocks on Robbies hatch
- Robbie is like “???? No one ever knocks on my hatch ?????”
- He goes up and to his confusion sees trixie and blurts out “ Trixie??” Before he can stop himself and say her name wrong
- Hes not even annoyed or anything just really confused as to why Trixie was at his door
- she tells him she needs help
- and he reverts back to being pretend annoyed and says ’ why would i help you’
- and she tells him ’ i gotta pull a prank on sportacus and need ideas’
- he perks up at that and hes already thinking of ideas
- and shes like ’ no no no you gotta promise to not try to get him out of town’
- and she tells him about the art of a prank and how ’ yes, there can be some maliciousness and discomfort for the person being pranked, but the prank should be based mostly on surprising or confusing the person’
- and hes like ’ yeah yeah whatever’ and claps down some chalkboards to plan out the prank
- and after some ’ no robbie we cant do that ’s
- they settle on robbie making a machine to make lazytown appear as if it was made out of gumdrops and chocolate and caramel and trixie sending a letter to sportacus so he freaks out
- and theyre gonna watch the replay afterwards through pixels cameras that are in and out of sports airship
- its a little meaner then trixies usual pranks, but its also much less malicious for robbies taste so they compromised
- they execute the plan
- robbie turns on the machine
-trixie sends a letter saying she had lost her helmet somewhere and needed help finding it
- since they dont have binoculars or anything, all they see is a blue dot come out of the airship and just stand there
- trixie decides it was enough and turns off the machine
- “HeY!” - Robbie Rotten
- Sportacus comes down, slightly shaken up, and asks if Trixie still needs help finding her helmet
- Robbie starts laughing really hard and Trixie tries desperately to explain what really happened but is having a hard time because of robbies contagious laughter
- sportacus just standa there kinda confused and a little concerned
- they both finally calm down and trixie tells him what happened
- and then they both run off to pixels house
- After some mild confusion from pixel as to why trixie and robbie of all people are at his door he lets him in
- sportacus’ face was a PRICELESS mix of fear concern and horror
- and soon pixel trixie and robbie are having a good time laughing their heads off at it
- they all go home
- robbie realises
- that was the most fun he has had pulling a prank
- ever
- basically its just a bonding fic with no ships to be found
- idk i just think there should be more bonding fics with robbie and trixie

poor sport
gentlefolks of the jury, bear with me:
during Sporp’s appearance on The Super Sproutlet Show, he’s cheerful, bouncy, and excited to play and talk about Lazytown, but then he suddenly worries aloud that Robbie might be in trouble, and hurries away.
his crystal gives no indication that anything is wrong, though.
which could be a distance thing, given its various inconsistencies, and a possible factor in Sporp’s apparent concern could be that he knows his crystal can’t always be relied on to tell him someone’s in danger.
however
even when he’s home in lazytown, sporp is seen on multiple occasions to suddenly leave social situations- not just the times when he leaves during Bing Bang with a little wave instead of staying for the dip, but the times he seems eager to get back to his airship and just doesn’t stick around town.
really a number of factors could be involved but we definitely know that when sporp reaches his limit on these things, it happens pretty quickly and with very little lead-up
so
nervous elf that is Done Socializing, citing Robbie as an excuse to go home ( and on completely possible/probable grounds, he could be in trouble )
Robbo absolutely does the same thing and uses Sporp as an excuse to avoid undesirable situations. It’s fully mutual to the point of almost being an actual agreement between them that Sporp can be like
“I better make sure Robbie’s okay! He could be in trouble!”
and Robbie can be like
“I’m going back to my lair before that Elf shows up!”
