My friend takes this one step further and refers completely accurately to his girlfriend Danielle as "My partner, Dan"

Also makes you sound like a cowboy which is cool I think

Fun side effect to this: Someone thought I was queer because I mentioned MY LAB PARTNER as "my partner." Are you gay? Are you a scientist? Do you just like the term partner? Are you a gay scientist who just likes the term partner? The world won't find out until a year later apparently.

Sometimes I have to specify “my romantic partner, the one I am dating” versus “my EMT partner, the poor man who was trapped in an ambulance with me for 14 hours a night” because I refer to them both as “my partner” in different situations. I’ve also added “lab partner” which can be bio, orgo, or physics specific to the rotation. So a lot of partners going on. Gotta keep em guessing.

not to be all "these two words will change your life" or whatever, but I promise you, programming in "good catch!" as your response to people correcting you/pointing out errors or whatever removes so much friction from interactions, and comes with a delightful happy meal toy of "not hating yourself so much for making mistakes"

I use "I stand corrected" a lot. The mild silliness of the outdated language makes it work for me.
