Communist ideology has historically been supportive of abolition for prostitution. Still today many communist parties are very open about supporting abolition for porn, prostitution and surrogacy. that's the case in portugal, the uk, france, sweden and norway for example. you'll also find communists taking stance against prostitution in belgium and germany, and i don't need to explain how vital that support is considering how dire the situation is over there. in general communist parties defend equal pay for women, a better access to healthcare and education to women (and in particular to women most vulnerable in our society -- working class women and woc), they support reproductive rights as well as social welfare programs, which benefits women (especially young mothers, elderly women and disabled women) the most considering women are more likely to live in poverty than men. communists also support welcoming refugees and helping immigrant people with fair access to housing, healthcare, education and jobs -- to the benefit of female refugees; while the right supports measures that worsen the living conditions of the most vulnerable women if they are not banning them from entering the territory and leaving them to die from war, poverty and terrorism induced by western imperialism

most communist parties don't even have a clear or official stance on how far we should go about "trans rights", even less so about "terfs". the only communist party i know of that took a stance about all this is the communist party of britain, which actually supports radical feminism, denounced modern trans ideology as sexist, homophobic and pro-capitalist and was endorsed by jkrowling in the latest general election.

1. While it’s true most Communist organisations don’t have much of a position on trans rights, the fundamental framework that allows for that reductionist view still prioritises class over all else. The TERF movement has always praised Rowling as an ally, however she’s, as of late 2025, a billionaire, and unlike Liberals or Conservatives who may think “billionaires are bad but some can exist”, Communism views billionaires, as both a class and individuals, fundamentally an abhorrence that shouldn’t exist. Rowling endorsing the BCP actually caused a bit of a schism within the BCP because the idea of someone with a position considered so abhorrent not just agreeing with but full on ENDORSING the Party made a lot of people fundamentally rethink how they understand their politics. Even if you were to find an anti-Trans communist, they’d desapise Rowling and by proxy the TERF movement for this reason specifically.

2. The usage of the UK Supreme Court was an explicitly anti-worker move from the TERF movement that damages most legitimate credentials to serious leftists. The Supreme Court as an institution is unelected officials being placed with the power to overrule democracy, with labour protections and worker rights being the things most prominently overruled. This is actually WHY the Supreme Court was conceptualised originally, as is directly stated in early documentation including that by James Madison himself (who said the US Senate and Court existed to stop workers from taking power over property owners). On top of this in the UK Hilary Cass who was also explicitly praised by the TERF movement accepted a position as a literal Aristocrat.

3. Trans and Asexual people are both statistically far more likely to join Communist movements than most other groups due to the nature of their marginalisation, however both of these groups are vilified by the TERF movement. Siding with TERFs would be tactically completely detrimental for any serious modern day organising.

4. Multiple prominent American TERFs have directly organised with the Heritage Foundation to push their policies, which… in most cases disqualifies them from any credibility within left organising.

5. Dialectical Materialism is Radically Constructivist by definition, while the TERF movement is based on genders and sexualities having singular set unchanging definitions, this is completely incompatible.

When I was in secondary school, I often struggled a lot with the question of sexuality. I knew a lot of gay people, a lot of straight people, a lot of bisexual people, and everyone from my friends to my teachers to my family all wanted to know what my sexuality was… but I just… didn’t have an answer. I did identify as Bisexual for a couple years as I had developed crushes over the years however I never felt the “sexual” aspect that everyone claimed existed.

As time passed and I was taught more and more about sexuality and identity, I got increasingly distressed by how little I actually understood any of it. I knew “asexuality” as a concept sure, and while I have always been extremely sex repulsed, I do still feel occasional libdo and as such thought that disqualified me from counting as Ace. Eventually I fell into an existential crisis as I tried desperately to learn what my sexuality could possibly fit, spoke to my parents, my friends, tried to see if I counted as Pansexual. Nothing fit, so, I just sat back, with no understanding of who I was or what was wrong with me. I felt isolated, alone, like I didn’t belong in this world.

When I started opening up to people, nobody really understood it either. I was accused of being unwell, that this was induced by trauma or a side effect of “porn addiction”, that it meant I’d likely never be able to fall in love, that it meant I just had “really high standards”. Everyone from my family to my friends to the man literally teaching us sex education had no understanding of asexuality, and so that just pushed the narrative that I wasn’t asexual deeper. This was until one specific person joined my friend group, someone who was openly Asexual, and, he pushed really hard on it. Admittedly I did find it a little uncomfortable but, at the same time it surprised me. I contacted him directly to ask about why he’s acting like this despite being ace, and he replied by telling me that asexuality doesn’t always equal a lack of libdo. To say I was shocked would be an understatement, this completely reframed my entire life. My family didn’t understand it, none of my friends including the queer ones seemed to understand it, my teachers didn’t understand it, but this man whom I knew for four days before he left the group seemed to understand it well enough to guide me to investigate and discover that yes, I was indeed asexual.

So many years in pain, questioning who I was, questioning why I’m not like everyone else, with nobody giving answers, nobody understanding what I was feeling. When I learned I was Asexual it answered every question that was sitting in my head that had haunted me for over half my lifetime, saying it was a relief would be a massive understatement to what I was really feeling in that moment. I’d finally understood something I thought I never would or thought was something that needed to be fixed.
