Posting some of my D8 HCs for today, here goes:
-They were one of the first to rebel and played a major role in not only the second rebellion but also first rebellion, hence there already being a negative attitude towards them in TBOSAS
-thereās several towns within d8 each have a few factories since itās a bigger district on the map
-Thereās a much heavier peacekeeper presence compared to 12 they supervise workers in the factories, unfortunately its not uncommon for the male peacekeepers to take advantage of the girls/women working in the factories
-Itās unfortunately fairly common to get injured at the workplace and some accidents can be quite severe. There are a fair amount of missing limbs. Asthma and other respiratory troubles are also fairly common due to the air quality.
-It is always noisy due to all the machines. Hearing loss is also common.
-if you get injured on the job any treatment you receive is docked off your pay
-D8 uses a similar scrip system to d12
-itās not uncommon for work to be shorter term and there are centers that display the open jobs at different factories if you are looking for work
-conditions are never great but vary somewhat between factories
-there tends to be a disproportionate amount of young (12 13 sometimes 14) tributes from 8 because you can begin start working for pay at like 15. so thereās not need for as many tesserae the older you get unless you are in extreme poverty even by d8 standards or have a big family. so the younger ones actually end up having more equal odds of getting reaped compared to older ones
-In CF Bonnie and Twill mention both working a shift after school. That shift is part of the school day probably starting at some point between age 10 and 12 until you are done with school. But notice I said work for pay in the last point. Because that shift is considered to be part of the kidsā education, it is not paid. When youāre eligible to start working for pay it is an additional shift on top of the ātrainingā one.
-The capitol claims it is fair because the schools provide the kids with free breakfast and lunch. Because of the cost of food in the district, this does serve as an incentive to keep the kids in school though some quit school a year or so early to begin working full time.
-Almost no food in district 8 is fresh. Most of it is canned or dehydrated
-On the other hand, people in d8 are much better dressed compared to other districts and their clothes tend to be much more colorful and stylish while of course still being practical to work in. A contrast to districts like 11 where you donāt get to eat what you grow.
-Because of this, people from other districts think d8 is much better off than they really are and it helps fuel resentment, especially since many people in the other poorer districts canāt afford much in the way of fabrics
-While d8 is considered one of the poorer districts, there is somewhat of a range of situations. For worker families some are more lower middle class, while some live in various levels of poverty. And of course thereās the wealthier merchant class.
-some people live in very small houses built very close together others (the majority) live in apartments, often resembling tenement houses
-normally more colorful clothes signify wealth but since theyāre more common in d8, the fewer wealthier families particularly women and children will often wear lots of white and pastels since they donāt have to work in the factories and get them dirty
-wealthier people often have a more ornamental textile hobby like embroidery crochet or lacemaking since they have time to do that not having to work as much or at all.
-There was always a lot of inequality in d8 but it used to be a much wealthier district before the first rebellion/ādark daysā
-Consumers in the capitol are also led to believe their higher end clothes and more luxurious fabrics come from d1 but itās all from 8 while 1 makes a variety of other luxury items such as jewelry, makeup, wigs, and perfumes
-mostly people in the capitol make the designs for the clothes and send the patterns to the factories but there are a few coveted design jobs occasionally
